I am going to be in Russia and Scandinavia for the holidays and first three weeks of the term, attending the International Principals’ Conference in Finland and meeting with other teachers and leaders. One of the highlights will be going to the school in Norway previously attended by Malene Jacobsen who is in Year 8. Malene’s brother will attend the school when the family returns to Norway. Spectacular Science on Show It was wonderful to see so many of our school community braving the cold weather to share our scientific learning from our ‘Mad about Science’ inquiry at the science fair last Wednesday. The children have loved learning about the nature of science and the world around us. We thank everyone who attended and helped us to celebrate our learning. Well done to all those family members who got involved in their child’s scientific learning at home, it really helps to strengthen the learning!
Y7/8 Rippa Rugby Tournament Well done to our Rippa Rugby Team which competed in the Intermediate Tournament at Yarrow Stadium on Monday. There were 770 children taking part and our team did really well, displaying outstanding sportsmanship and support on the field. The team won three games and lost two, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot. We thank the parents and grandparents who helped with transport. Without you we would not be able to attend these competitions.
PTA NEWS – Thank You! The holidays are on our doorstep and the first 2 terms of this school year have flown by. This is the last newsletter of Term 2 and the PTA would like to say a huge Thank You! to all parents, students and teachers for supporting us and Bell Block School by fundraising for the development of our school grounds. It is great to see how the students directly benefit from the events/activities that we organize. The PTA has contributed funds towards future playground developments. In Term 1 and 2 we have been fundraising through 3 major events: Family Picnic (February), Easter Raffle (March) and Disco (May). We hope you all have a great holiday, stay safe and we hope to see you at our next PTA meeting on 18 August at 7 pm in the Staff Room. All welcome! The PTA Committee

Year 7/8 Outdoor Academy Pouakai Hut Tramp What a fantastic overnight tramp we had in the Pouakai Ranges last Thursday and Friday. The weather on the first day was perfect! After just over two hours of uphill tramping to the hut we spent the afternoon exploring the top of the ranges, visiting Henry Peak and having a great time with the ice covering the tarns (spring fed lakes on top of the ranges). We made some new international friends in the hut and cooked a gourmet dinner of noodles and pasta and sauce, followed by roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate. A little fun chasing cheeky possums around the hut capped off a great evening. The weather turned nasty overnight, but that didn’t bother us in our warm sleeping bags. After hot porridge for breakfast we made our way out by lunchtime and returned to school to finish off our marshmallows! We thank Warren Day and Kane Innes for their help on our tramp. Without you we wouldn’t have had such a great time. Left: The trampers celebrate reaching the tarn at the top of the Pouakai Ranges Room 7 & 8 learn together in the library while
their classes were being renovated.
