After reading the text Duyfken, pretend you were on board that ship in 1606 and write about an experience you may have had while exploring the world on the ship. Think about how rough or calm the ocean may have been, what you would’ve been wearing, what your job was on the ship, what food would you have had to eat (you may need to use the internet to find some information about life on a ship in the 1600’s). Probability: understand the language of chance. We will be looking at the language of Chance (certain,

likely, even chance, unlikely, impossible).Have a look at the sheet in the resource column and complete the questions.

We will be looking at some of the definition and examples of terms used in probability (sample space, outcome, trial, event, favorable outcome). Please have a look at the sheet in the resource section.

HASSYou will identify the ways Indigenous People managed the land in Australia. Read comprehension passage on Aboriginal People and their habits to do with the land in the

resource section and answer questions.

Using Morse Code, write your words and then get someone to decode them. Send your words through to your teacher.

Probability: Understanding and using the language of choice. We use words to describe the chance of something happening (or not happening) in the future.

Using the sheet in the resource column you will mark the chance words below on the chance line, also called a probability scale.

Using the same sheet use the chance words that were used on the chance line above for the given events.

Looking at the second probability sheet focussing on language choice. Choose the words to best describe the likelihood of events happening in the chart below.

ArtWe are learning to: demonstrate different techniques and processes in planning and making artworks. Draw a “grid” the width of a ruler on an A4 piece of paper (see the bold, straight lines in the

example), until you get to the middle of the page. Fill each “grid line” with a different pattern, then go over it with a black pen. You can use any

different, repeating pattern for each segment, but do not repeat any pattern in another segment. Try using straight lines, diagonal lines, curved lines, a small shape repeated – the

activities:o Make a list of at least 3 questions you asked yourself as you read “Duyfken”.o Try to find answers for these questions, make a short video asking these questions and sharing

what answers you found out, then send this video to your teacher.

Writing We are learning to: use language to create imaginative texts. Choose an interesting fact from the text and create a fantasy text based on that fact. Remember that fantasy is not real, but can sometimes use things based on real events, people,

Read the comprehension about traditional Torres Strait Islanders connection to the environment and answer the questions that follow. Task is in the resource column.

activities:o What does the text mean when it says “maritime history”?o Make a list of other difficult words or phrases in the text and find out what they mean.o What tip would you have for someone who has stopped reading because they found a new

word in the text? How could they find the meaning?

Remember what a fantasy text includes: What is Fantasy? Write 3 silly sentences using the words: replica, voyage and explorer. Remember to use correct

Probability: Using data to create a bar graph. We are going to collect data and create a column bar graph. Students can we have you choices placed on ClassTag for everyone by 10:00am so we can collect

the results and start our graph. Have a look at the graph sheet in the resource section. You can only choose one.

Looking at the sheet that’s in the resource column you’re going to create your own graph using the result from your class.

Once you have completed your graph can you look at the Bar graph question sheet and answer the following questions in relation to your bar graph. You will need to use some of the language we’ve used from the start of the week.

shapes and patterns within each group of 3 hexagons. This can be tricky, so don’t stress if you can’t do it, just have a go and see what you come up with.
