There are 4 main types of renewable energy- Wind, biomass, hydro and geothermal. Each method however, including non-renewable sources, has some advantages and disadvantages. same denominator. What happens when we add fractions with the same denominator? The denominator stays the same and we only add the numerators. We do the same with subtracting. Because we are subtracting the same amount, for example quarters, all we need to do it take some away- effectively rubbing them out. As you can see in this picture, they started with

impact on the planet. There is lots that we can learn from them to reduce our carbon footprint too. Have a look at the information sheet about Norway’s approach to renewable energy.

Look at the image of the map. This shows how much renewable energy is used throughout each country. The darker colours represent the highest amount and the

lighter colours show the lowest amounts. What do you notice about Norway compared to the U.K? Currently, the U.K.’s carbon footprint is still very polluted- we still rely

the features and think about creating a success criteria so that we can make sure our writing has clear steps for achievement. Newspapers are a journalistic writing style and they inform people of events that have happened, either locally, nationally or internationally. Local events are often reported in a local newspaper. For example: The Billericay Gazette. National newspapers report on stories from all over the country. International news are stories about

events that have occurred worldwide. Newspaper reports are meant to report only factual information but this can sometimes be exaggerated depending on the quality of the

newspaper you buy! On Monday’s Literacy below – can you work out what the features of a newspaper text are from reading it? Think carefully about the following:

on fossil fuels to power our electricity. We are starting to take steps towards more renewable energy but we still have a

long way to go.

As this picture shows, our footprint is made of mostly fuel, gas, factories and pollutant gases. Your activity is to recreate the footprint but fill it with things that we could do

instead to change how we power our country and reduce our greenhouse gases. You might draw some renewable energy sources, planting trees, reducing rubbish etc.

Remember, in order to subtract we need to make a common denominator. Here we can see I have 3 lots of 4 which makes 12 in total. To make the calculation simpler, we can rewrite it as a top heavy fraction. As we can see here we now have 12 quarters which I can

This week you have learnt lots of information all about renewable energy sources- good and bad. Have a look at this video to see how burning fossil fuels affects the Earth’s atmosphere, causing the ‘greenhouse effect’. http://ypte.org.uk/videos/the-greenhouse-effect We all need to work together to help heal our plant and live a little bit greener. Below, you have

two hearts- one with an image of the earth on and one blank. Cut out both hearts and stick the only left edges together to form a ‘book’. Colour your earth picture and fill the inside of

your booklet with ways we can reduce pollution. You must include:

example, ½ of 12. We can see already that we can divide 12 by the denominator (2) to find our answer (6). So here we are divide the whole amount (12) into 2 separate groups. We are able to do this because the numerator is 1 which means it is a unit fraction. This means we are finding one part.

Let’s use our dots again. Here are 12 dots. Let’s find 1/3 of 12. So we need to find one part. As we can see, one part of 3 lots of 12 is 4. Or 12 ÷ 3 = 4

The best way to find multiple parts is to begin with one part, and multiply it by the amount you need to find. For example: 3/5 of 45 Step 1: Find one part by dividing the whole number by the denominator: 45 ÷ 5 = 9 Step 2: Multiply your one part (9) by the numerator: 9 x 3 = 27 This means that 3/5 of 45

We have saved a couple of different newspaper templates to help you set out your writing on the Year 4 class page- week 12. Remember: When you are writing your own newspaper article:

Make your headline short and snappy.

In the first sentence sum up what the story is about.

Write your report in the third person and the past tense.

Split your newspaper report up into paragraphs to help

the reader clearly understand the information.

If you use quotes to make your report more interesting, don't forget to use speech marks!

Use a photo with a caption to

give the reader more information.

Fill your newspaper report with both facts and opinions. Facts give the reader all of the information they need by using the 5 Ws.
