Year 3 RE: This week we are going to be thinking about Seva or Sewa and how Sikh people help others by serving them. There are many people who

volunteer in the Gurdwara as part of their religious duty. Seva is a Punjabi word that means selfless service and it comes from stories from the

Gurus, below are some stories to watch about serving others:-

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zvx6yrd

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mx57w

Now go to purple mash and complete the activity set for you – write a letter explaining what Seva is and why it is important to Sikhs.

Year 4 RE: This week we are thinking about marriage and why it is important to people of faith and also to people of no faith. Why do you think people choose to

get married if they are Jewish or Christian? What promises or vows do people make during the wedding ceremonies? Why are these important? Watch the

following clips to help you think about these:- https://request.org.uk/life/rites-of-passage/marriage/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxQ87qN7E9o

The second clip goes a little bit quick so you might want to watch it twice! The most important part of both religious ceremonies is the promises or vows made to

each other and to God. In Judaism this is called the Ketubah and is a wedding contract. Rings are exchanged as part of the wedding ceremonies in both religious –

why do you think that is? So why do people choose to marry in a Church or Synagogue? Try and see if you can come up with really good reasons why Jewish and

Christians get married and why this might be important for family life as they grow older. There is an activity on purple mash for you to complete – write up the

differences for Jewish and Christian wedding ceremonies and the promises they made.
