YEAR 11 & 12 Information Evening for Students and Parents of class of 2016 and 2017

WELCOME PARENTS & STUDENTS Mr Chris Noonan

Principal

Senior Information Evening

Please turn off your mobile phones

Stop listen repent

Let go the rush and noise

And wait patiently before God

Let the busyness of your body rest

Let the worries of your mind rest

Let the doubts of your heart rest

Senior Information Evening

We Gather

Let us hear God’s call to holiness

Open the deep places of our hearts

And allow your spirit to recreate

Busyness into peace

Worry into trust

Doubt into hope

Lord in the stillness of this moment

May we repent our ways

That do not serve you

And admit to tensions that tell us

Where we need to change

Senior Information Evening

As we enter this season

Of reflection and refocus

Let us walk

The way of the cross together

And move forward without fear

Into God’s eternal purpose

Calculating OPs

Scaling uses QCS test means (averages) and mean differences (measures of spread) - A student's individual QCS Test result is not used in the calculation of their OP.

A student's grade on the QCS Test will increase or decrease the mean for the groups they are part of. They must do their best to maximize the increase or minimize the decrease to the mean caused by their result.

The best 5 re-scaled SAIs are added and averaged to calculate a student’s Overall Achievement Indicator – OAI.

The best re-scaled OAIs get OP1. The next best get OP2 and so on based on the spread of Ops shown earlier. There are 25 OP bands.

Subject Achievement Indicators (SAIs)

• SAIs are calculated by school for large groups (14 or more) and submitted to QCAA

• Small and intermediate groups the Level of Achievement (LOA) and rung number (1 – 10) are submitted for the calculation process

• Shows one student’s achievement in relation to the achievement of other students in that subject in that school. (400 – 200)

Field Positions (FPs)

Field Positions (FPs) are additional rank orders that supplement an Overall Position (OP)

The term "field" refers to areas of emphasis in the senior curriculum

FPs are used by tertiary institutions to provide greater differentiation between students in an OP band, for example, when the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places for a course

Pathways

Field Positions (FPs)

Pathways

Field A extended written expression involving complex analysis and synthesis of

ideas

Field B short written communication involving reading, comprehension and

expression in English or a foreign language

Field C basic numeracy involving simple calculations and graphical and tabular

interpretation

Field D solving complex problems involving mathematical symbols and abstractions

Field E substantial practical performance involving physical or creative arts or

expressive skills.

A student may receive up to 5 FPs, depending on subject choices. FPs are reported in 10 bands, from 1 (the highest) to 10 (the lowest) in the following fields:
