Other Comments The structure of the 1ST Year GCSE course is aimed at providing a wide range of themes and approaches, with students working in a variety of media. Evaluation and assessment of personal progress is built into course and provides opportunities for students to consider strengths and areas for development. The 1
st Year of GCSE provides a strong basis for developing full units in the 2

Term 3 & 4: Unit A452 – PRACTICAL INVESTIGATION (30% OF THE QUALIFICATION) This unit is designed to provide students with an opportunity to carry out a practical investigation into a computing issue and engage them with computing in the real world. Students will be expected to produce a report, which will then be assessed under the four headings:
- Practical activity - Effectiveness and
efficiency - Technical understanding - Testing, evaluating and
conclusions.
The course is 40% exam and 60% controlled assessment. OCR externally marks and moderate all exams and coursework. Controlled assessment is internally moderated prior to external moderation.

Other Comments Students are expected to attend at least one of the theatre visits organised by the Drama Department during their GCSE course. There is a compulsory coursework element to write a response on a live performance which all students must attend as they need to answer questions on this in their written exam.

There will be TWO exams in June 2017: Paper 1 : Shakespeare and Post-1914 Literature (50%) 1 hour and 45 minutes Paper 2 : 19th Century Novel and Poetry Since 1789 (50%) 2 hours and 15 minutes. This exam is longer as it contains a question requiring comparison of TWO UNSEEN modern poems.

Other Comments: It will be very helpful to find Ecopies of the set texts, or even to purchase the books so that students can be encouraged to read and re-read them several times. They really do need to know the texts well as students are not allowed to have copies of the books in their exam.

Continuation of GCSE Controlled assessment task from Year 9: Assessment criteria 2: Development of design proposals Assessment criteria 3: Making of design proposals Students will be working on the controlled assessment task worth 60% of the GCSE. Students will design and make a variety of ideas from their chosen country aimed at their chosen target group.
Revision topics to support students with their own independent revision. Pre-exam topic given to students to allow them time to prepare for the Design question of the exam (30/120 marks) 2 hour written exam paper which accounts for 40% of the GCSE
Recipe books.
Students must provide ingredients for all practical lessons, failing to participate in these lessons will severely hinder their progress and affect the overall GCSE grade – if there are any problems with supplying ingredients this please contact the department immediately.

Other Comments It is vital that students keep on top of weekly homework tasks (exam questions based on what has been learnt in class that week) and seek help with time management if they are struggling. Pupils are set an end of unit test every half term, they must take these tests seriously as it will give them an indication of how well they are doing in the topic/ subject. Pupils need to work really hard on their controlled assessment. This will REALLY help them with their overall GCSE Geography grade.

Four units of work are internally moderated with Edexcel carrying out a National Standard Sampling either by a visit or coursework being sent to a moderator for validation and one unit of work is externally assessed through examination in the summer term.

Other Comments Students are expected to organise their work carefully and keep all handouts safe. All notes made in Year 10 will be needed either for the final examinations or for controlled assessment completion.
The USA 1918-1941. The main focus of this depth study is on how the USA develops into a major superpower. Mass production, racial intolerance, dealing with the Great Depression, President Roosevelt.

The main part of the term is on Coursework/Controlled Assessment. This is set by the exam board in the Spring Term for completion in the Summer.
On average students will complete 1 assessment task each half term based upon past exam questions.
Any general 20th Century European textbooks. Regular revision of topics studied in class (this is ongoing homework). Ideally, controlled assessment should be word-processed (allowing easier re-drafting).

The course is 40% exam and 60% controlled assessment. OCR externally moderates all exams and controlled assessment. Exams are sat in January and June each year.
A GCSE revision guide will prove very help especially for revision. A OCR GCSE text book isn’t essential but would be good for student to have at home to help them.

Other Comments The PSHCEe Curriculum is designed to promote self-awareness of others in a variety of relationships and situations. Also to prepare students for working life and living independently. In addition to these three days, students will experience PSHCEe activities within tutor time to support the curriculum. There will also be theatre group performances, year group assemblies and targeted group sessions for specific groups on topics such as CAREERS, SEX and the LAW, SAFETY, DRUGS and ENTERPRISE.

Assessment Tasks & Internal Exams
GCSE Psychology students sit three written exams at the end of Year 11. Assessments take place throughout the year to monitor student progress. An assessment will be given at the end of each topic using exam-style questions. Students are expected to pass these assessments and must resit if they do not pass. There is no coursework element to the Psychology GCSE. Revision and Catch-Up sessions are offered after school and at lunchtime. Ask Mr Smith for

A letter will be posted home in October 2015 to all parents detailing a series of deadline dates for coursework. Students will also be informed. Coursework must be completed under controlled assessment conditions. This means that it is highly important for students to attend all lessons as they may otherwise miss opportunities for specific input and time to work on specific sections.

Other All students will need to spend 90 minutes per week on homework, this being mainly spent on GCSE project work. We provide after school access most evenings where students can get additional help. We encourage all students to stay one evening to work on their project between September & March and attend revision session after Easter.
