    Dear Executive Committee Members,

Thank you for your support for the Youth and Young Adult Committee in our inaugural year

and for your consideration of the enclosed budget request. This has been a year of extraor-dinary spiritual growth and community development for young Urantia Book readers. As

we near the close, we are able to look at the successes and challenges of last years budgetallocation, quantify the progress each dollar received thus far has provided, and opt imize

next years nances to best prepare for the continued growth of the YaYA community.

This presentation is intended to help elucidate our reasoning behind each line item request

and answer any questions you may have regarding the ways our budget will be spent. Ourdesire is to make clear that we were scally strategic and responsible last year, and that ev-ery dollar we are now seeking was well thought out and is critical to our continued success!

As we detail herein, the exponential growth in scope of youth community projects and

events can be best supported with a 2013 budget of $xxxxxx. We entreat you to thoroughlyconsider each area of funding outlined herein. Without adequate funding there is a great

deal of work we cannot accomplish. We are acutely aware that the Fellowship is a small or-ganization with limited resources. That is why we plan to subsidize our increased nancial

needs with fund-raising activities of our own. For every extra dollar we believe necessaryas an increase from last years budget, we are petitioning for only half the desired budgetincrease, being responsible for the remainder ourselves. We therefore are asking for a bud-

    get contribution of $xxxxxxx.

Thank you for your consideration and work in driving the evolution of truth on this planet. Please help us to do our part in this effort. The act is ours, the consequences Gods.

    Sincerely,

The Youth and Young Adult Committee

When the YaYA Committee submitted a budget request in all 2011, we had sponsored oneregional conerence that attracted a dozen young people. A year later, we have sponsored orparticipated in seven events to support ellowship, education, spiritual growth, and communitybuilding among young Urantia Book readers. Tese included:

Younger Generations in Boulder, CO Regional YaYA Conerence in Los Angeles, CA

    Oct 14-16, 2011 Nov 4-6, 201117 attendees 19 attendees

Younger Generations in Boulder, CO Regional Mini-Conerence in San Diego, CAJan 13-16, 2012 May 11-13, 201225 attendees 22 attendees

European Readers Gathering in Berlin, Germany ruthseekers Event in aos, NMJuly 6-9, 2012 July 16-22, 201235 attendees 37 attendees

Regional YaYA Conerence in Chicago, ILJuly 28-Aug 233 attendees

Tere is a palpable eeling o momentum building in our generation. Each o these events acili-tated young people motivating, ueling, and inspiring each other spiritually, while also osteringgrowth in our community. Heres an example:

At our YaYA Conerence in LA last November, we did an exercise where participants were askedto imagine their unique contribution to the Urantia community, much as Jesus apostles eachmade a unique contribution to their corps. Liz Craig imagined creating a new service hotlineor young readers, called UB Chat. Tanks to Fellowship unding, she carried out the project.Liz lives in Caliornia. A young reader in Illinois named Ronnie Goins ound UB Chat on Face-book. He and Liz began talking, and she invited him to our YaYA Conerence in Chicago thissummer. Tere he ound his rst-ever community o Urantia Book readers, and had such aninspiring experience that he decided to stay on or the Summer Study Session later that week.

Our budget proposal last year included only two o the events listed above, but our generation isso hungry or ellowship that our event participation blossomed. Tereore, in this years pro-

posal, we request $6,000 to be allocated or two regional conerences, plus an additional $4,000to be spent on participating in other events. Here is a look ahead:

-We will host a regional YaYA Conerence on Te Art o Introducing the Urantia Book in

Santa Cruz, CA on Nov 1-4, 2012.-We will host a Jesus birthday celebration at the United Urantia Family Festival in YosemiPark, CA in August 2013.-We will diversiy geographically to include at least one regional conerence on the east coa2013.-We will consider representation at existing events that attract young people in 2013, inclu

the Rainbow Gathering in Montana July 1-7 and Burning Man in Nevada Aug 26-Sept 2.

We have ound that the number one obstacle to event attendance is cost. Even with ree regtration and lodgings at our events, we gave away 10 scholarships or travel expenses this yeWithout support rom the Fellowship, it is unlikely that these young people would have beable to join us in building spiritual community. As we seek to continue the work we have byour generous support is invaluable.

    Budget will go toward:

-Scholarships or attendees -Food and hospitality-Stipends or presenters -Print materials-Meeting space -Fees or local activities-Lodgings -Committee member expenses

Te success o UrantiaNow is paramount to developing a geographically diverse yet intimatelyconnected community o youth and young adults. Tis can be seen in the increasing requen-cy o previously unmeet and unknown contacts, the discussion o relevant issues and ea-ture o testimonials showcased on the site, and the modern and simplistic visibility o eventsthroughout the community.

A testimony to the success o the site can be ound in the story o the naladdition to this standing committee, Georey Teiss (to your le). Hehad been reading Te Urantia Book privately until he was compelled toreach out to nd like minded individuals. Aer unsuccessul attempts oreaching out through other Urantia-based websites, he ound the Ura-

ntiaNow website and the Los Angeles Invitational in November 2011.During the three days o attendance at this gathering, he was so inspired that he volunteeredor the role he is in today and is a vibrant member o the young adult community. Tis wouldnot be possible without the unction o the UrantiaNow website.

Te hard numbers can be seen in the ollowing Google Analytics. Te most signicant statis-tic is the 6,528 visits in the last year compared to 1,805 in the year previous. And even moreincredibly, o these 6,528 visitors, 53.8% were new visitors to the website and 46.1% were re-turning visitors. Tis statistic is extremely telling in that there is balance between the growtho visibility and the inter connectedness o the community.

Urantia Now has strived to become a household name inside the Urantia Community. imand time again we have received messages rom new members about there grateulness to discovered a site that oers such a widened look into the lives o other Urantia Book reade

Printing is a cornerstone o our outreach projects. We need printed literature in order to giveeach contact something to take home that eectively summarizes our conversation. Materialssuch as banners, iers, brochures, cards, and apparel are key to the success o our work, makingTe Urantia Book visible and providing written points o reerence or all who are curious. Sinceprinting is airly expensive, we work very hard to make sure we only print what we need.

In the next year we plan to increase our presence on college campuses and at youth events thatattract truth-seekers, such as Wild Goose Festival, Rainbow Gathering, and Burning Man. Wealso think it is important to provide materials to the attendees o youth and young adult coner-ences we host or Urantia Book readers, in order to encapsulate their experience and give themtakeaways to share with their riends and amily. Finally, we try to promote events to the localcommunity surrounding each o our regional conerences, which requires unding or printadvertisement.

Tis year the YaYA Committee was lucky to have Janet Graham join as chair o an adjunctcommittee on Family Lie. Along with young parents including Miranda Clendening, RichDaunt, and Michael MacIsaac--as well as experienced practitioners such as Sara Blackstocnet has begun assembling a collection o Urantia Book-based resources or parents, teacheand caregivers o children. Tese resources will be available or reedownload on UrantiaNow as part o a web orum on am-

ily lie. Under the auspices o the YaYA Committee, Janetheaded up an intergenerational panel discussion on am-ily as the master civilizer at the Summer Study Sessionin 2012. She is already developing a amily lie programor the International Conerence in 2014.

In the coming year, some o our plans or amily lieinclude:

Complete online resource bank for parents, teachers, and caregivers

Develop parent-to-parent resource network for expe-rienced parents to counsel new parents on raising theirchildren with Te Urantia Book

Host conference for the purpose of developing newamily lie resources and building community amongparents and teachers o children in the Urantia movement

Integrate family programming into Summer Study Session in 2013

Work with Truthseekers to help develop more programs for youth, as well as possible aeschool programs or community center programs or younger children based on values andcharacterbuilding

Help put together a program to help families communicate and build strong relationshipthrough love, orgiveness, and service as well as value teaching and character building as a ily

Start discussions about a future program to help young adults prepare for marriage and flie

Te rst goal o Media Development in 2012 was to create a video introduction to TeUrantia Book and its community o readers that can be used across a variety o plat-orms including websites, social media, and on site at colleges and conerences. At this

very moment this video is in the nal stages o editing. In a ew weeks it will be ready tocommunicate its message.

We plan to complete our video in-

troduction to Te Urantia Book andmove right on to our next projects. Asour community grows we must pro-

vide high quality media which we allknow has been missing or so long.

Once this project is nished, we planto take on a new suite o projects toserve the Fellowship and the greatercommunity o Urantia Book readersand truth-seekers. Everyday vast numbers o young people get online to engage withtheir communities and search or new connections. We are committed to being thereto meet them across platorms. We seek to create dynamic videos and multimedia thatstimulate current readers and interest new ones.

At the Summer Study Session in 2010, you could count the young people onone hand. In 2012, thanks to support rom the Fellowship and coordinated e-orts with the Education Committee, there were over a dozen young people inattendance, about hal o whom participated in the program by giving work-shops. In 2013, our goal is to double that number, and to encourage youthand young adults to join in shaping the culture o our summer study sessions.

    Budget will go toward:

Scholarships for attendees Materials for programs and activities Committee member expenses

We eel it is important to sponsor special proj-ects by members o our youth and young adultcommunity. We would like to inaugurate thisinitiative with a special project to train teachersand leaders:

Te original Constitution o the Urantia Broth-erhood created by Doc Sadler and the oundingGeneral Council called or the Education Com-mittee to:

Find, prepare, and qualiy teachers o the UrantiaBook, who shall be persons o high moral charac-ter, devoted to the teachings and principles o theUrantia Book; it shall seek to interest such suit-able persons in preparing themselves to teach thetruths o the Urantia Book.... .it shall establishstandards o character, conduct, and educationor such teachers; and shall coner upon anyperson who shall qualiy under the standards soestablished the title certifed leader or ordained teacher and authorize such persons to rep

    the Urantia Book Fellowship.

As young people, we would someday like to become wise teachers and leaders, ullling thinstructions in a manner consistent with Jesus teachings. What are the rst steps to makinthis a reality? Our committee members are committed to a lie o spiritual training and grand we would like to be part o a greater corps o leaders in our generation. Our work nowcreating a diverse social network to identiy and recruit like-minded young readers. What we need next?

First, our committee needs time together in a sustained ormat to create a curriculum thatocuses on standards o character, conduct, and education. We would like to hold a smalmeeting o the minds that includes our committee members and others who are interesteddeveloping a training program or teachers and leaders. From this initial gathering, we wilour rst projects and coordinate the activities o these budding leaders. Initial unding witoward sponsoring this meeting o the minds, and next years budget proposal will reect

results o our brainstorming session and subsequent curriculum development.

Tis year, travel was the most sought-aline in our budget. Our committee memlive in six dierent cities in our dierenstates, not to mention our adjunct memin two other countries, and at the begin

o this year we had not all met each othperson. Other than our chair, all o us ader the age o 30, unmarried, and in schor the early stages o a career while payo debts. We have a rare window o tim

create and host ellowship activities throughout the country and the world, but limited perresources with which to do so. We are committed to ministering to and learning rom our in the eort to build a vibrant spiritual community. o do so, it is imperative that we meet youth and young adults including our ellow committee members--ace to ace, despite beigeographically scattered.

We are strategic about our travelspending, and part o our motivationto host and participate in conerencesand events is to bring many young

people together at once in centralizedlocations. We request travel unding tocontinue ostering a culture o youngpeople who are developing their per-sonal relationships with God throughdynamic, loving relationships withtheir brothers and sisters in aith--nomatter where they call home.

College campuses are thriving, open-minded arenas or intel-ligent discussion. In the Urantia Book, we have an endless wello lie-nourishing truth to quench young minds. In our view, it isimperative to take ull advantage o our resources to reach youngpeople during the years when they have permission to ocus on

their own education and edication. For this reason, campus out-reach is an important part o the YaYA Committees vision.

In 2012 we visited college campuses almost 20 times! Every timewe introduced dozens o young people to the Revelation. Manyriendships were made and much experience was gained. Welearned a lot about what materials worked and how to make theprocess more efcient. Next year we plan to double i not triple

our progress in reaching young people in the prime o their intellectual development.College outreach is a time-consuming project, especially to get moving in more than one city. Ittakes time to contact the schools, collect the materials, and gather volunteers. Because o thesechallenges it is vital that we keep unding available to make this process a reality. Without itcampus outreach might stop in its tracks just when we are gaining momentum.

In our rst year as a standing committee, we have learned the impor -

tance of regular and widespread communication about our activities.

By the end of 2012, we plan to send a printed holiday greeting to the

Fellowship mailing list, sharing this years accomplishments and invit-

ing participation in next years events. We plan to do the same next

year, and request a budget for postage and freight to reach as large

a portion of our community as possible. In addition to a holiday mailing, we send out periodic

smaller mailings, such as invitations for inter generational events held in partnership with local

Societies in the areas of our regional conferences.

Te YaYA Committee meets weekly across ve time zones, and participants use the mosteconomical means possible to dial in. Part o the phone and internet goes to cover the cost ormembers and invited guests to call on cell phones or over Skype.

We have also initiated an exciting new program called UB Chat, which is a service or youngreaders to call a hotline and receive support rom other young readers regarding the experiencesand challenges they are acing in their lives. Liz Craig, a member o the YaYA Committee and atrained peer counselor, ounded UB Chat this year and has already engaged her peers on a dailybasis through contact on Facebook and meaningul phone calls throughout the week, some owhich have resulted in increased involvement in the Urantia community. Part o the phone andinternet budget will go toward maintaining the UB Chat line.

Thank Yu!our final thoughts about the yaya budget

    Executive Committee Members,

Despite making great strides in many areas this year, we were essentially laying the grouwork or the work yet to come. Our metrics or event attendance and web visits went up exponetially, but these numbers are still tiny in a global context. We incubated a suite o new projects ainitiatives, but they all require nurturing to reach maturity. Our committee is positively dedicatto doing the work required to oster our existing community o young Urantia Book readers, anreach the legions o young people worldwide who consider themselves spiritual but not religio-those who are seeking truth and dont know where to look. o do this, and thereby to raise a ngeneration o religionists who will realize the potentials laid out in the Urantia Book, we humbrequest your support.

Tank you in advance or your thoughtul consideration, and or all the good work you do.

    With love and thanks,

    The YaYA Committee
