What has happened to the digits?

The decimal point does not move!! The digits move one place to the left.

What does 10³ mean?

How do you write 10 000 as a power of 10?

How do you write 10 as a power of 10?

How do you write 1 as a power of 10?

How can you tell what power of ten it is by looking at the number? Give another example and explain your working.

What do you think 0.1 is as a power of 10?

10 x 10 x 10 = 10³ = 1 000

10 x 10 = 10² = 100

10 = 10¹ = 10

0.1 = 10ˉ¹ = 0.1

Explain why the above is true.

Give the division sum with the same answer as this multiplication.

6.24 x 100 = 624

Give the multiplication sum with the same answer as this division.

0.4 ÷ 10ˉ² = 40

6.24 ÷ ? = 624

0.4 x ? = 40
