Cancun 2000 was a complete success. The XIth Inter-national Congress of Senology of the Senologic Interna-tional Society (S.I.S.), the XIth Latin American Congressof Mastology of the Latin American Federation of Mas-tology (F.L.A.M.), and the 2nd National Congress ofMastology of the Mexican Association of Mastology(A.M.M.) took place in the midst of beautiful Cancun’sFiesta Americana Coral Beach Hotel, with the presenceof around 1,000 delegates (of whom close to 300 partic-ipated in the program) who came from 45 differentcountries. The scientific program was the most out-standing of its kind with world renowned professors ofthe highest scientific level who joined to share the latestfindings in the fields of research protocols, new drugs,monoclonal antibodies, novel surgical and radiologicaltechniques, significance of prognostic factors, psycho-oncological support, genetics, plastic reconstruction, andradiotherapy. Special recongnitions were awarded foroutstanding career achievements and support to the SISto Professor Eliezer Robinson (Israel), Chairman ofthe Union Internationale Contre le Cancer (UICC); Pro-fessor Umberto Veronessi (Italy), Italy’s Minister ofHealth and former Chairman of the UICC; and Dr. An-tonio Figueira Fo, former President of the SIS and alsoformer President of the Standing Committee, who re-ceived the Ch. M. Gros award. The National SurgicalAdjuvant Breast Project (NSAPB) award was be-stowed upon Harry Bear, David Krag, Terry Mamou-

Sixteen Symposia were conducted and presented byseveral of our invited speakers. There were also ten Con-troversies and eighteen Roundtables. Finally, a very suc-cessful novel format was proposed and carried out bythe Cancun 2000 Organizing Committee of thirty sixDiscussion Tables–informal conversation between ex-perts in which all participants exchange their experi-ences with the public surrounding them to be able to askall questions directly; this awoke enormous interest.
