2. Given that there is no more weighted assessments, how do I know the learningprogress of my child?

Q&A
3. How will the students be banded to their P2 classes? Is it by ability?
Ans: The school adopts cohort promotion for some levels (P1, P3 and P5). Inconsideration of the emotional and social well-being of the children, this will ensuregreater stability in the children’s learning environment.
Every Xishanite, A Life-Long Learner, A Contributing Citizen
Q&A4. How will the students be banded to their P3 classes? Is it by ability?
Ans: The school adopts mixed ability banding in promoting the students from P2 to P3.All the teachers in Xishan are trained in differentiated instruction (able to teachstudents of varying abilities in a class). Moreover, low progressing students will befurther supported with school based interventions such as smaller pull out groups(subject specific) to help them to close learning gaps. High progressing students aresupported with stretched programmes to maximise their potential in the respectivesubject areas.
Every Xishanite, A Life-Long Learner, A Contributing Citizen
Q&A5. Students will be exposed to CCA in P3. Will the school consider exposing the P1
students to CCA on an optional basis?
Ans: The school does not offer CCA to P1 students. It is because the lower primary(P1 and P2) has the PAL lessons in their timetable. For PAL lessons, students will beexposed to Sports and Games, Outdoor Education, Visual Arts and Performing Arts on amodular basis. These lessons not only serve as platforms to develop Social EmotionalCompetencies and values, but also to expose the students to develop their interests inthese areas. Students observed to have talents in certain areas will be invited to takepart in some of the CCAs when they are in P2.
In Xishan, CCA starts at 4.00 p.m. and stretches till 5.30 p.m. In view of the well-being of the P1 students, we do not involve them for CCA.
