V. LEARNING MATERIAL

Acid base titration

The determination of concentration of acid base solution can be done by an

experiment called acid base titration. The word titration means the determination of titer

or concentration. Acid base titration is the titration based on the neutrality reaction of

acid and base. The concentration of acid solution is determined by using the base solution

Page 4: XI Stoikiometri English

that the concentration has been known vice versa, the concentration of base solution can

be determined by using acid solution that the concentration has been known.

1. The procedure of acid base titration

The titration is stopped when the indicators show the changing of colour. When the

indicators show the color changing it’s called the final point.

Equivalent point : the pH when the acid and base equivalent precisely

The final point : the pH when the indicators is changed in color

2. The changing of pH in acid-base titration (titration curve)

The graph explain the changing of pH in acid titration with base (or vice versa) is

called titration curve. How is the shape of titration’s curve? On fact, theshape of

titration curve is depend on the power of acid and base that been reacted. The three

kinds of titration:

a. The titration of strong acid and strong base

Some things that can be concluded from the curve are:

1. First, the pH of solution increase little by little, but the extreme enough changing

is done around to the equivalent point

2. The equivalent point of solution pH when the acid and base used up is 7

3. To show the equivalent point can be used the methyl-red, blue brom thymol, etc.

b. The titration of weak acid and strong base

1. The equivalent is more than 7, about 8-9

2. The increasing of pH changing in around of equivalent point more wide, only

about 3 unit, the pH ± 7 until pH ± 10

c. The titration of weak base and strong acid

Page 5: XI Stoikiometri English

1. The equivalent point, the pH of solution in the neutrality of weak base with the

strong acid is less than 7

2. The increasing of pH around the equivalent point is more wide, only about 3

unit, the pH is about ± 7 until ± 4

VI. LEARNINGMODEL :

the bottle of drinking water in daily life.

3. Teacher explain the learning objectives to students

B. Main Activity

Phase 2 : Present Information

Elaboration

4. Teacher explain outline of matter that will be studied.

5. Teacher inform about learning model that will be used.

Phase 3 : Organize Student into learning team

6. Teacher divided students into some groups. Each group consist of three students

heterogeneously.

3. Teacher conditioning students to gather with their groups.

4. Teacher distribute worksheet to each student.

Phase 4 : Assist teamwork and study

5. Teacher ask student to start the experiment

6. Teacher walk around and monitoring the activities of students during experiment,

emphasize that responsibility, cooperate well, be good leader in experiment group is

required to students

7. Teacher guide students in finishing worksheet based on experiment result

accurately and precisely, emphasize honest, can be trusted, and help friend that

needed is required to students.

Phase 5 : Test over materials

8. Teacher ask student to present the result of their discussion in front of the class and

other students become good listener, emphasize that open minded and listen

friend’s opinion to student during discussion.

9. Teacher gives opportunity student to ask (give question).

10. Teacher gives opportunity student to express their opinion about answer of other

friend.

C. Closure

Phase 6: Provide recognition

11. Teacher gives reward for the best group, great group and super group.
