    4 XBT527 Overview

    4.1 Project functionality

    The XBT527 project finds its field of application in ISDB-T Transport Stream based Broadcasting Systems as Network Adapter.

    4.2 ISDB-T topology overview

    A brief overview of the SBTVD/ISDB-T topology will help to understand the features of the XBT527 device. The following figure shows a topology used for the transmission in a 3-layers system.

    Inside this topology the four elements highlighted are responsible of the correct multiplexing and synchronization of the streams before the ISDB-T modulator:

    XBT527 for Layer A: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer A and add SI/PSI.

    XBT527 for Layer B: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer B and add SI/PSI.

    XBT527 for Layer C: multiplex one or more TS with a bit-rate suitable for the modulation scheme of Layer C and add SI/PSI.

    XBT528, BTS multiplexer: multiplex the three layers streams into one synchronized BTS.

    In order to provide a correct synchronization for the BTS multiplexing operation the streams must be already adapted in the XBT527 multiplexers: each XBT527 output is a stream with 204 byte packet and which bit-rate is already the 32.5 Mbps used by BTS stream. In this stream packets occupy a specific position depending on the layer in which they are going to be transmitted, so there is a part of the stream composed by the data of the actual layer of the XBT527 and the rest filled with stuffing packets in places of data of the other layers. Using this approach is important that all the system is using the same parameters, and all three XBT527 are set with the same settings for their own layer and for the others.

    4.3 Device Overview

    XBT527 is an ISDB-T dedicated single-channel TS multiplexer with PID filter/remapping and PSI/SI Table provider and ISDB-T network adapter that generates from multiple input Transport Streams (TS) at different rates, a single TS multiplex at a fixed data rate.

    4.3.1 Output bit-rate tuned for ISDB-T system

    The output bit-rate is fixed to the fractional value of Mbps63

    2048 (approx 32.507 Mbps).

    The output data is composed by:

    Data from inputs filtering/multiplexing adapted with null packets to the bit-rate specific of the actual layer to which the XBT 527 is dedicated;

    SI/PSI of the actual layer to which the XBT527 is dedicated;

    if actual layer is not A: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFE provided with layer A specific bit-rate;

    if actual layer is not B: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFD provided with layer B specific bit-rate;

    if actual layer is not C: empty packets (place holder packets) flagged with PID 0x1FFC provided with layer C specific bit-rate;

    Null packets added to reach the total fixed output bit-rate.

    Each output layer specific bit-rate and the output packets sequence are automatically set according to the ISDB-T modulation configured.

    The ISDB-T modulation configuration depends on the following parameters defined for SBTVD/ISDB-T by the Standard Definition Document ABNR NBR 15603-1.

    Modulation Mode (number of carriers)

    Guard time

    FEC for each layer

    Constellation for each layer

    Number of used (spectrum band) segments for each layer

    The output packets format is 204 bytes. The last 16 bytes are filled with stuffing bits except the bits [04] of the byte 190 and the bits [07] of the byte 191 that are used for the packet counter that resets at each Multiplex Frame (defined by ISDB-T standard as a group of packets whose number is dependent on Modulation Mode and Guard Time).

    4.4 Features

    XBT527 composes a user defined output stream through manual PID filtering and/or remapping and through the insertion of SI/PSI from an external Database.

    The main features are:

    Input statistics;

    Composition of an output Transport Stream with a new bitrate;

    PID filtering/remapping at every input;

    Null packets deletion from input Transport Streams and their insertion in the output one;

    PCR restamping;

    Integrated Java based GUI for input TS analysis and static PSI composing;

    Store and forward of PSI carousel;

    Real time SI updating trough an external database manager (e.g. XBT-777E);

    ISDB-T Auto TS output bitrate setting;

    External or GPS clock locking for stable output;

    PCR replace function on Layer A if used for partial reception:

    o Implemented only for logical input 1).

    o Works only for a single PCR is present in Layer A and if used PCR PID is different from Video PID

    4.4.1 External SI management interface (optional)

    External software interfaces allow the modification or generation of SI tables following any standard.

    4.5 Data Inputs

    The TS input can be provided through different physical input interfaces:

    SPI IN Available

    The physical input is mapped by user definition to 4 logical inputs, but each physical input can be mapped only once on the logical input.

    PID filtering/remapping is available separately for each logical input.

    4.6 Synchronization

    The internal 10 MHz reference can be locked to an external clock frequency source. This is necessary in those environments where the synchronization to a common, highly stable and with high precision clock reference is mandatory.

  • M.B. International Telecom Labs s.r.l.

    ISO 9001:2000

    Cert. N2190/1

    Version 1.7a XBT527_Help_v1_7a.doc Page 10 of 181

    Available clock references are 10 MHz and 1 PPS from the integrated GPS receiver (needs a GPS antenna connected) and from an external source.

    The locking to an external or GPS reference source is mandatory for the device to work in a synchronized ISDB-T system along with XBT528 (BTS multiplexer).

    The output bypass connectors allow the XBT527 device to output stable references locked to the input clock selected.

    4.7 Data Outputs

    5.4 CAM (PID Filter)

    XBT527 provides commands and monitoring that allows the manual filtering of each single PID contained in each logical input for a versatile re-multiplexing of one or more inputs.

    Click on CAM (PID Filter) button, highlighted in the next figure, to access the PID filtering and remapping window.

    Before describing the filter command the user should be aware of the following features and guidelines:

    The default behavior of the PID filter is Pass none on all inputs.

    The filter is related to the logical inputs, the association between physical and logical input must be performed in the input sub-window and it is described in the previous paragraph.

    The filtering list is manually set and independent from the PID configuration actually present in the input TS: the filter let pass or blocks packets with the selected PID if present in the input TS but the device doesnt know if those packets are present or not. The user shall be aware of the PIDs actually present in the TS and their meaning.

    PIDs are expressed in decimal form.

    There is no consistency check when a PID is remapped, so the user shall take care to avoid settings that could overlap PID in the output.

    PIDs of SI/PSI tables that are added by the multiplexer must be manually filtered in order to avoid overlap in the output SI/PSI data.

    Carousel Remove

    Allows removing an instance of a selected table from a local SI/PSI tree. It also allows deleting an instance of a descriptor from a selected table.

    This operation is performed only on the local tree, the carousel will not be modified until a write command is performed

    5.7.2 Available descriptors

    Here follows the list of the descriptors available and their usage for each SI/PSI table. The descriptors highlighted in red are not available in the actual version of the XBT527. The points indicate in which tables the descriptors can be used. The points plus exclamation marks indicate in which tables the descriptors are mandatory. Descriptors mandatory only for some EIT type (H,M,L) are marked adding after the exclamation mark type for which they are mandatory, if not for all. For further details on EIT descriptor usage refer to ABNT NBR 15608-3 P.S. The XBT527 allows insertion of EVERY descriptor in EACH Table.
