Self-op radio production has its own very specific requirements.A radio DJ/Host needs to be utterly creative, absolutely focusedon creating great programming. But a self-op presenter also needsto control feeds, levels and settings to ensure that listeners arehearing exactly what they should be hearing.
FlexibleIndependent panels allowthe customer to configure theX2 layout to suit their particularoperating practice andenvironment. Available with6, 12, 18 or 24 faders, X2 canbe placed into any technicalfurniture we can even supplycustom mountings for you!
Each fader is fully assignable sothat any input source can berouted to any fader, and can bememorised along with other desksettings. User-defined levels ofassignability allow the X2 to caterfor multiple operators with varyinglevels of experience. Individualoperators may have their ownpreferred desk configurationsand a comprehensive memorysystem enables rapid set up fordifferent shows.
A single assign button aboveeach fader calls the touchscreento that channel allowing instantaccess to a variety of on-screensettings and options.
Hidden depthsX2 actively inhibits accessto certain settings like EQ andDynamics, reducing the riskof human error and makingthe system a more robust, lessstressful and more user friendlyenvironment for the presenter.
Two modes of operation areavailable in Operator andEngineer modes.
Engineer mode is passwordprotected and allows unrestrictedaccess to all features of the
system to prepare the consolefor use.

A central touch screen providesaccess to functions such asrouting, memories, fader labellingand signal processing, as well ascomprehensive GPIO signalization. An engineer can also hide furtherscreens, restricting access tospecific screen functions.
Operator mode allows accessonly to these pre-definedcontrols. This not only reducescomplexity, but preventsaccidental changes being made.Disabled controls will disappearfrom the control area, butthe settings on them will stillbe active.
CommunicationAll surface hardware consists ofdrop-through panels, connected
to a local console box that alsohouses 16 GPIsand 24 GPOs
for local functions, suchas fader starts. Bi-directionalcommunication to externalscheduling/play-out and networkcontrol systems is also available, such as the BBCs BNCSsystem. This unique interactionallows the operator to route inputsources to faders via BNCS.This is particularly useful forhandling outside sources suchas telephone hybrids whichare routed to the X2 inputsvia a 3rd party station router, minimising the number ofactions required.
ReliabilityX2 is built on Calrecs award-winning Bluefin HDSP processingsystem, and is supplied withfull power supply redundancy.
The PSU system for theconsole processing unit and
the DSP/Audio I/O rack containstwo multi-rail power supplies, both capable of independentlypowering the console.
During operation, full consolesettings are regularly saved. In the unlikely event of a powerfailure or system re-boot theconsole powers up to the mostrecently saved configuration andwill pass audio with full controlin less than five seconds.
X2 is simple and reliable witha naturally intuitive surface.X2 gives your presenters thefreedom to be creative.

WHATS WHAT?
Wild Controls
The assignable wild button androtary control can be used tocontrol a number of parameters, while pressing the rotary controlskips through available functions. They may be programmed toprovide access to the samecontrols, separate controls oneach channel, or automaticallychange their function.
PFL
PFL switches can be set tooperate momentarily, to latch,or auto. A tick box allows thesetting of PFLto cancel whena fader is opened.
Channel Fader
The channel fader operatesthe channel level.
Machine Controls
Machine control relays canbe set up so that the transitionof the fader from closed toopen operates a machine start, which can be used to triggerother equipment.
Theconsolecanhaveupto4 fader
controlpanels,givinga maximum
of24 channelfaders.Each faderpanel
providesasimple butpowerfulsetofcontrolsfor sixchannels.
Display
Each fader has a bi-color displayto indicate fader labels, wildcontrol functions and wild controlparameter values. The displayshows both the source label anda representation of any wildfunctions.
Assign Button
The Assign button selects thechannel for viewing and control. The audio parameters for the
channel are displayed on andcontrolled by the control screens.
Channel ONIndicator
The faders position controls thechannel ON indicator. When thefader is down, the indicator is offand the channel cut. The channelON indicator is illuminated whenthe fader is up.
Talkback
If a cleanfeed output isassociated with the source onthe currently assigned channel, the TB button switchestalkback to it.
