And there have been opportunities for us which, without our two churches, we would never have been able to undertake. The Good Friday “Crosswalk” is a great example of this. For five years now, each Good Friday, we have walked the way of Our Lord as one community as we journeyed from Holy Trinity Church to Holy Family Church, stopping to pray the Stations of the Cross at the homes of parishioners along the way. On the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary we have carried Our Lady by candlelight through our neighbourhood. Last year we had our first parish pilgrimage retreat where we walked from Holy Family Church to Holy Trinity Church, praying the Stations of the Cross and stopping at each of our parish schools to pray the Holy Rosary. From our shared parish fairs to our “Parish Outdoor Movie Night”, from “Carols on the Lawn” to “Carols by Candlelight” to our “Holy Family Carols”, from Divine Mercy Sunday to Red Wednesday, from “Party at the Parish” to “Picnic at the Parish,” from our youth group to our friendship group, from morning teas to pancake suppers, we have come together to celebrate both by the worship of God and by fellowship with parishioners. The joining of our parishes has given us a wider community where parishioners not only attend Mass and devotions across both churches, but with our annual “Volunteer Drive,” now volunteer across the parish in a way that we were not able to do before. Individuals and families who never knew one another, separated by parish boundaries, have formed friendships which offer support in times of sadness and in times of joy, and just in day to day life. Now we are being asked to bring that good work to its fulfillment and to properly re-unite ourselves as one parish under one name. What Will This Mean? Very little will change at all. Instead of being joined under the name Granville Catholic Community we will be united under the name of a new patron. But nothing will change in regards to what we see day to day. Both churches, Holy Family Church and Holy Trinity Church will stay the same with both keeping their names and both remaining and operating as they do now.

A Long and Shared History

Holy Family Parish and Holy Trinity Parish have a shared history with both being one parish for sixty years. As time moved on and as the circumstances changed they were formed into two parishes and then as times changed again the two parishes were twinned and drawn together again in 2014. Over these past six years we have recognised our common heritage and our common sense of purpose and our community has been broadened and enlivened. Like two rivers that join together to form one mighty river so our parish is like two streams of grace that have been brought together to continue the Church’s mission and to make known the salvation of Our Lord.

The Church Today

The Church today faces many challenges. Many parishes around the world and around Australia are uniting to work together. With a drastic decline in the number of Priests there are less and less available to serve us and to minister the grace of the Mass and the Sacraments. In some instances, such as Auckland, twelve parishes are to be merged into one parish, and even closer to home there are parishes which serve up to six churches. In the Granville Catholic Community we are fortunate in that we have two c h u r c h e s a n d a h i s t o r y o f collaboration and sharing.

One Parish

Since the twinning of the two parishes we have worked together to build up our community. We have worked to strengthen the bonds that w e s h a r e a n d s o f o r m o n e community. The work we have done, from administration to liturgical events to social media have been recognised by other dioceses and by other parishes, and much of what we have done has been adopted by them or given as an example for others to fo l low. From our shared parish fairs to our “Parish Outdoor Movie Night”, from “Carols on the Lawn” to “Carols by Candlelight” to our

“Holy Family Carols”, from Divine Mercy Sunday to Red Wednesday, from “Party at the Parish” to “Picnic at the Parish,” from our youth group to our friendship group, from morning teas to pancake suppers, we have come together to celebrate both by the worship of God and by fellowship with parishioners.

Both churches, Holy Family Church and Holy Trinity Church will stay the same with both keeping their names and both remaining and o p e r a t i n g a s t h e y d o n o w.

Our parish pastoral council is already joined, our catechists work together to form one united group, and we have one parish bulletin. So most of i t wil l be about the internal administration. It will mean that i n s t ead o f ope ra t i ng a s two organisations for the sake of civil and canonical law we will have one administration. And it will mean that we can now better share our resources and so continue to build on what we have already achieved but in a far more effective, efficient and productive way because we will no longer need to duplicate our work. It will mean we can draw on our resources to better care for our churches and our parish buildings. It will mean we can better co-ordinate and strengthen our fundraising initiatives both for our parish and for those in need. It will mean that we can move forward with confidence and strength, entrusting ourselves to divine providence, and knowing that the grace of the Holy Trinity and the blessing and intercession of the Holy Family will be with us.

Your Participation

As we look to the future and seek to move forward we are invited to consider how we can do this so as to continue to build on what we have already achieved together. We have already done so much to cultivate and to nurture our shared community and now we look confidently to how we can constructively contribute to

love under the guidance of the Most Holy Family and the Most Blessed Trinity. We pray that they will bless our efforts and grant us the grace to sustain us now and into the future.

✠ O God, you have made us

the Church of your dear Son. Make our community a family

of one heart and mind in love towards you.

Keep our service of others faithful to the example

and command of Christ. May we cultivate the many gifts

you create in us to share your abundant life and divine love with all those present in our lives.

Nourish and unite us through the Holy Sacrament.

Fill us with hope and joy and a renewed sense of love

and devotion to you. We pray through the intercession

of the Most Holy Family and Blessed Trinity

that they will guide and protect our community always. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

the future. Following on from the survey we held there will be a chance for an informal gathering on Sunday, 2 August at 6:15 p.m. at Delany College on Grimwood Street, Granville for us to share our views. With the changing circumstances of the Church and of our world we need to look at the bigger picture of our place in the universal Church and how we share our Catholic faith with others across our diocese. The hope we have is that we will contribute to ensuring that the Catholic faith in our geographical area of Granville will be strengthened and revitalised, to the benefit of both our community now and for the generations to come. In whatever way you are drawn to assist, know that what you do is not only for others who share in our community but is also for the praise and glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ in whom we profess our faith and devotion. In a world and in a time where Christianity is looked down on we have a unique opportunity to show that we are proud of our Christian heritage, and more importantly that we are working together for a common outcome. As Pope St. John XXIII once said: “It is now for the Catholic Church to bend herself to her work wi th calmness and generosity. It is for you to observe her with renewed and friendly attention.” We pray that all of us together will work with a sense of faith, hope, and

Planned Giving Envelopes

Would you like to be a part of t he week l y p l anned g iv i ng programme? The weekly envelopes are a great way to support the parish. The regular donations we receive from our parishioners help us to meet our costs and to continue to build on the good works of the parish.

If you would like to be a part of this programme and to receive a set of envelopes please contact the parish office by phone on 0497 190 4 4 4 o r b y e m a i l a t [email protected]. Thank you to all those who are already a part of this programme and give to the parish each week. Your generous support is greatly appreciated and is a tremendous source of support for the parish. And this year’s envelopes are now available in the church.

1st and 2nd Collections

At the moment we are still prohibi ted f rom passing the collection plates during Mass. Because of this there are boxes available at the doors of the churches for your donations towards the first and second collections. Thank you to all those who regularly contribute to these collections. The money received through these collections support the Diocese of Parramatta (first collection) and especially the parish (second collection) in meetings its costs and continuing to offer our good works.

Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for World Relief of

COVID-19

As we continue to beseech the grace and mercy of almighty God for the world during this time of pandemic we ask you to join in the novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for World Relief of COVID-19. The prayers of the novena are posted daily on our Facebook pages. So let us unite in prayer to the Sacred Heart asking that we may be granted an immediate cure and effective treatment for this disease and that Our Lord and our Holy Mother, Mary, may take pity on us in our time of need.

Hand Sanitiser

Unfortunately in the past few weeks bottles of hand sanitiser have been stolen from the church. The hand sanitiser provided is for the use of all those who enter the church as a way to help minimise the possibility of infection. The s a n i t i s e r w e u s e h a s b e e n generously donated to us by Gleam Chemicals and parishioners. We ask that people respect this and that the bottles of hand sanitiser remain in the church.

Gloria in Excelsis

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,

we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Credo

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became man, all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the deadand his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

First Reading The First Book of the Kings (3:5, 7-12)

The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, ‘Ask what you would like me to give you.’ Solomon replied, ‘Lord, my God, you have made your servant king in succession to David my father. But I am a very young man, unskilled in leadership. Your servant finds himself in the midst of this people of yours that you have chosen, a people so many its numbers cannot be counted or reckoned. Give your servant a heart to understand how to discern between good and evil, for who could govern this people of yours that is so great?’ It pleased the Lord that Solomon should have asked for this. ‘Since you have asked for this’ the Lord said ‘and not asked for long life for yourself or riches or the lives of your enemies, but have asked for a discerning judgement for yourself, here and now I do what you ask. I give you a heart wise and shrewd as none before you has had and none will have after you.’

Responsorial Psalm (Ps 118:57, 72, 76-77, 127-130. ℟. v. 97)

℟. Lord, I love your commands.

My part, I have resolved, O Lord, is to obey your word. The law from your mouth means more to me

than silver and gold. ℟.

Let your love be ready to console me by your promise to your servant. Let your love come to me and I shall live

for your law is my delight. ℟.

That is why I love your commands more than finest gold. That is why I rule my life by your precepts:

I hate false ways. ℟.

Your will is wonderful indeed; therefore I obey it. The unfolding of your word gives light

and teaches the simple. ℟.

Second Reading The Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (8:28-30)

We know that by turning everything to their good God co-operates with all those who love him, with all those that he has called according to his purpose. They are the ones he chose specially long ago and intended to become true images of his Son, so that his Son might be the eldest of many brothers. He called those he intended for this; those he called he justified, and with those he justified he shared his glory.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom. Alleluia!

Gospel of Matthew (13:24-30)

Jesus said to the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field. ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it. ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet cast into the sea that brings in a haul of all kinds. When it is full, the fishermen haul it ashore; then, sitting down, they collect the good ones in a basket and throw away those that are no use. This is how it will be at the end of time: the angels will appear and separate the wicked from the just to throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. ‘Have you understood all this?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And he said to them, ‘Well, then, every scribe who becomes a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.’
