Pre-K

This past month, we have been working on classroom rules and routines as well as working with one another. We have worked on the letter A (recognizing the letter and sound) and have created a list of words that begin with that letter. At this time, we have most of the children who are able to complete simple patterns and a few working on making and extending complex patterns. Most of the children are now able to tell me what an author and illustrators do and are working on identifying characters of our stories.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten will be going on their first field trip in October. We are heading to Morten Arboretum on October 28th. We will be looking for adult chaperones from each classroom to accompany the group. Please keep an eye out for more information and permission slips to come.

Fourth Grade

Snapshot of 4th grade!

Welcome to the 4th grade, we are very excited for our new school year!

Lets start out this year successfully so your children can succeed and achieve.

As a Greenman lion your child is expected to R.O.A.R.; Show Respect, to be Honest, to have a positive Attitude, and to always be Ready to learn. Your child is expected to do homework and read every night! We also expect our 4th graders to bring in a signed reading log daily!

Please help us prepare your child for the future!

What are we learning?

Language ArtsIn Language Arts unit 1 we focused on story elements. Students learned how to explain a story by referring to the details and examples in a text. Students also focused on learning to describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story. In addition students were required to compare and contrast different stories by thinking about the different points of views from which the story was told.

Math In Math we focused on having students recognize multi-digit whole numbers, read, write, and compare numbers to the millions, compare and order multi-digit numbers by using symbols, we taught students how to round whole digit numbers, add and subtract whole digit numbers, and understand perimeter to solve real world problems involving rectangles.

It has been a wonderful experience getting to know your children.

News from our Reading Specialist

Hi Parents,

Greetings from the Land of Reading! I am your Reading Specialist, Miss Kindelin, and heres a quick tip for you in helping your child do well in school.

When answering questions, speak in complete sentences.

By complete sentences, I mean, using a bit of the question in your answer.

I have listened to hundreds of kids take hundreds of reading tests at Greenman. After the story comes a list of questions. One of the questions might be, What was this story about?

A student who has good conversational skills would speak in complete sentences. They would use at least a noun and a verb. A noun is a person, place, or thing, and a verb is an action word.
