Striving for excellence
Be a good sport.
#dotherightthing
In 2012 The Olympic Games were held in London.
• How old were you 3 years ago?• Do you remember any of it?• Here is a clip of some of the action that took
place then.•https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbsXUJITa40
All of the sports people in the video clip showed great sportsmanship.
• Sportsmanship is how a player acts on the field of play, before, during and after the event / lesson
• How they behave towards their own team, the other team, the others in the lesson, the referee or the people watching.
• All of the sports people in the video will have started to learn how to behave during sport at Primary School.
A good sport always….
• give their best efforts • controls their behaviour• supports their own team• resolves arguments quickly and peacefully• respects the opposition and the referee• plays by the rules
A bad sport is ….
• a poor loser • a bad winner• dishonest• lacking in respect• puts others down• someone who stops trying when they are losing• Lacking in cooperation
Good Sportsmanship at School
• Try to control your behaviour • Always try your best in all situations and don’t
give up.• Only make positive comments about others
performance .. “That was a good shot”• Try not to argue and resolve issues quickly• Respect others skills, even if they are not as
good or better than your own• Be a good loser ( no crying or sulking)• Be a good winner ( be pleased without showing
off)
Bad Sportsmanship at School
• Disruptive behaviour• Giving up because you are losing• Putting others down• Arguing with your own team, other team or
referee about decisions• Being horrible to others who are not as good as
you or who maybe better than you• Moaning and sulking if you lose• Showing off and gloating if you win

Treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself.
Often gain respect if you give it first
