February 14, 2020

To: Borough Administrator Andew J. Casais. The following is a report of activities and work done during January and February 2020. Activities Concerning the Casano Community Center:

o We are very grateful to our residents, Aldene Elementary School and United Methodist Church for their generous donations to our Community Center food pantry. Their contributions have enabled us to maintain a stocked food pantry.

o The Casano Center is in search for a bus driver. o Closed: February 12 for Lincoln’s birthday and February 17 for Presidents’ day, o On January 10, almost 100 enjoyed the New Year’s Dance party for Middle School Students

o On February 21, the center will be hosting a Middle School Valentine Dance Party from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The party is free for Roselle Park residents only.

o The child must bring a permission slip signed by the parents/guardian in order to enter the party. Parents are requested to ask their children to remain inside the facility and to ensure that he/she waits until the parents arrive to pick them up. Once they leave, they will not be allowed to re-enter.

o On March 3, Westfield health department will be giving a presentation on importance of vaccination. Residents will learn how to recognize why vaccines are important, understand the concept of herd immunity, and identify the vaccine routinely recommended for them.

o The Borough will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Starting at 3:00 p.m., Joe Carosalli’s Masterpiece Orchestras will perform authentic Irish music; Free food will be served during the event, which consists of corned beef & cabbage, boiled potatoes, carrots, Irish soda bread, and rye bread as well as dessert.

o This Arts program is made possible in part by a HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Dowling’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, and Sunrise Diner.

o On April 28, a speaker from NJ Department of Human Services will visit the center to help our low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities save money on Medicare premiums, prescription costs and other living expenses.

o 2020 Complete Count Committee has started planning on activities and events to ensure Roselle Park Counts! The Committee has decided on promoting awareness through Social Media, Newsletters, School activities, Borough events, Community Gatherings, and through Faith base organizations. Flyers and Poster will be posted on various dates.

o Following are the important dates March 12 - 20: Households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed

information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail. March 30 - April 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing

homelessness over these three days. As part of this process, the Census Bureau counts people in shelters, at soup kitchens and mobile food vans, on the streets, and at non-sheltered, outdoor locations such as tent encampments.
