Programs: M.S. program requires about 30 credits past bachelor’s degreePh.D. program requires about 24 credits past M.S. degree (exclusive of research hours)

Estimated time to completion: M.S. 2 yearsPh.D. 4-5 years

Important exams:

1) Twice-yearly exams given in Algebra, Analysis, Topology, Differential Equations, at the Masters level. These serve as exit exams for the main M.S. options, and as the Ph.D. entrance exam. Students must achieve an appropriate pass level on two of these exams.

2) For Ph.D. students, the Qualifying Exam is generally taken in the third year of study, after the major area course work is complete.
