The 13th World UniversityChampionship comes to and end

EL XIII Campeonato del Mundo Universitario de Bádminton llega a su finThe fact of the days was that for

the last 15 matches planned –

semifinals and finals – all

participants were Asian players.

The first matches of the days

saw Iskandar (MAS – N°5) and

Huan Gao (CHN – N°2) qualify

for the men’s single final

defeating respectively Jen-Hao

Hsu (TPE – N°1) and Arif (MAS).

Shortly later in the mixed double,

Tang/Liu (CHN – N°8) eliminated

Malays ia ’s Vountus/Meng

(MAS) to qualify for the final

where they would meet their

teammates Zhang/Ou who defeated the seed N°2, Malaysia’s

Lufti/Fei Cho Soong. The women’s single tournament was the

only one having a logical final with both the seed N°1, China’s Xin

Liu (world N°20) eliminating it’s teammate Xiaojia Chen (CHN)

and seed n°2 Yu-Po Pai beating Shiomda (JPN) in their

respective semifinals.In the women’s double, Shinoda/Uratani

(JPN) obtained their spot in the final after defeating Kim/Kang

(KOR) to face seed n°2 China’s Ou/Tang who defeated Taipei’s

Wu/Hsieh in two expeditive game 21/8 21/13. Finally in the men’s

double China’s Guo/Zhang defeated Hsu/Lin (TPE) while

Arif/Iskandar (MAS) overcame the loss of the first game to finally

defeat another pair from Chinese Taipei Tseng/Wang and qualify

for the final.

In the afternoon the five-finals programme started with women’s

double and the impressive victory of China’s Ou/Tang (N°2) over

Shinoda/Uratani (JPN) in thirty minutes and two games 21/13

21/8. The men’s single final offered much more suspens. Huan

Gao (N°2 - CHN) took the first game 21/15 with insurance and

Liu (world N°20) de China ha eliminado a su compañera de

equipo Xiaojia Chen (CHN) y en la segunda fase a derrotado

también a Shimoda (JPN) en sus respectivas semifinales.

En dobles Femeninos, Shinoda / Uratani (JPN) obtuvieron su

pase a la final tras derrotar a Kim / Kang (KOR) para enfrentar

las n ° 2 de China Ou / Tang quien derrotó rapidamente a Taipei

Wu / Hsieh en dos partidos 21/8 21 / 13. Finalmente en dobles

masculinos Guo de China / Zhang derrotó Hsu / Lin (TPE),

mientras que Arif / Iskandar (MAS) superó la pérdida del primer

juego para finalmente derrotar a otra pareja de China Taipei

Tseng / Wang y clasificarse para la final.

title 21/16 in the last game. To conclude, the men’s double final

saw another surprise, not only Iskandar and Arif (MAS) did a

great tournament in single, not only were they not specialist of

double, but the two top 100 players (respectively 94 and 57)

managed to take the best over the chinese pair Guo/Zhang in

two games, bringing the title to Malaysia 21/16 21/19.

He highlights that athletes are serious and polite, and they have a model behavior.

He tells that “nights are short”, because athletes go out but they come back not so late, although he asserts laughing that “with Italians in the tournament it would have been different”

Nos comenta, que como deportista que es está disfrutando del campeonato. Que no está siendo complicado, qué otros campeonatos han sido más ajetreados. El tiempo pasa rápido. Destaca que los deportista son personas serias y formales y están teniendo un comportamiento ejemplar. Dice , ”las noches están siendo más cortas”, haciendo alusión a que salen pero se recogen antes . Con ironía expresa “ si hubieran venido los italianos sería otra cosa, ellos son los que dan siempre la nota de color”.

Loli told us that the circumstances were a bit stressful due to the distribution of the rooms,

although the following days have been more relaxed.She thinks that next Wednesday will be

also a busy day because it is when teams are leaving. As sport fan she is glad to help them with

“a big smile”. She has been in all competitions celebrated from 2008, and she thinks that it is

curious that Asian people use to bring their own food, cooking it on their rooms. She also affirms

that “athletes use to forget the keys in their room and she has to open it”.

Nos comenta que al principio fue un poco estresante debido al reparto de habitaciones y al

acomodo del personal, después tranquilo, el fin de semana ha sido lo más movido. Prevé

que el miércoles y el jueves serán días movidos debido a que se marchan la gran parte de los

deportistas y personal del campeonato. Cómo aficionada al deporte que es, está encantada

de atenderles, con una gran sonrisa me dice “ es un placer atenderles”. Ha vivido todos los

campeonatos que aquí se han celebrado desde el año 2008. Al preguntarle por alguna peculiaridad

dice que al principio le llamó la atención que algunos deportistas asiáticos trajeran la comida de fuera y comieran en las

habitaciones. Dice también que suelen dejarse muchas veces las llaves dentro de la habitación y tienen que ir a abrirles la puerta.

He stresses the good behavior the players have, although he also comments that communication with Asian people is very difficult, although he explains that his company has provided an interpreter for this event. En primer lugar destaca el correcto comportamiento de los deportistas, aunque resalta que con algunos , en su mayoría chinos, el entendimiento es imposible, ya que sólo hablan su idioma y no entienden nada de inglés, pero anticipándose a este contratiempo, la empresa para la que él trabaja “Serunión” ha contratado expresamente para este evento una traductora de inglés, que se comunica con el traductor de chino, y así queda solucionado el problema del idioma. Comenta que el menú lo ha intentado adaptar a las necesidades de las diferentes culturas y gastronomías, intentando evitar la carne de

cerdo en la mayoría de los guisos. Comenta: ”Está siendo un campeonato de los más tranquilos y los he vivido todos los que se han desarrollado aquí desde el año 2008.

antes lo vivió cómo jugador, y de una

manera u otra opina que es una gran

experiencia.

Dice que el equipo español son personas

responsables y trabajadores dentro y fuera

de la pista. Está muy orgulloso de haber

dirigido al equipo, ya que nunca se han dado

por vencidos y han dado todo de sí mismos .

Resalta que hace unos años era imposible

pensar en jugar de tú a tú con potencias

cómo China o Tailandia. El equipo español

ha jugado partidos de mucho nivel. “Cuando

vimos el resultado del sorteo tuvimos claro que era imposible

ganar”.

Me pide que no se me olvide trasladaros esta reflexión suya: ”

Destacar la importancia de los Voluntarios y Jueces de línea que

han tratado al equipo muy bien y a mí particularmente”.

Nos cuenta que este torneo le parece

muy interesante, siendo la primera vez

que acude a un evento universitario, y ha

podido apreciar el gran potencial de los

estudiantes que participan este

campeonato universitario. Ahora espera

ponerse en contacto con el mayor

número de países posibles para

an imar les a t raba ja r con sus

universidades y que acudan a torneos

como éste, ya que supone un gran reto y

es un paso muy importante entre las

categorías inferiores y la máxima

competición en el bádminton.

Además ratifica la importancia de estos

campeonatos entre universidades a nivel mundial, ya que

supone una gran motivación para los jugadores que

compaginan el bádminton con sus estudios, y a la vez puedan

llegar a la élite de este deporte.

También afirma que la manera más importante de promover este

deporte es dándole la importancia que se merece, ya que la

mayoría de las veces la gente no disfruta de este deporte por

desconocimiento. Concluye la entrevista diciéndonos que

“desde este mismo momento, estoy pensando en cómo voy a

hablarles cuando vuelva a Suiza a la federación y a las

universidades de este tipo de campeonatos para contarles la

importancia y el potencial que tienen.”

championships suppose an important step between junior events

and the top competition. Also he ratifies the importance of these

kind of tournaments between universities because it supposes a

great motivation for players who are studying and, at the same

time, they have the opportunity to play in a higher level.

Also he asserts that the main way of promoting this sport is giving

importance to it because most of the people do not enjoy this sport

due to ignorance about it. He concludes the interview telling us:

“from this moment I am thinking about what to do when I come

back to Switzerland and how to talk to people in universities and in

the federation, telling them that this could be interesting because

here is a great potential”

David Cabello Presidente de la Federación Española de Bádmnton.President of the Badminton Spanish Federation.

Mr. David Cabello comments us the importance of sport and its

benefits. Although he is professor in the University of Granada, he

dedicates pretty much the same time to badmiton

and his work. According to Mr. Cabello, “during the

last decade working in the Badminton Federation,

this sport has evolved considerably”.

He recognizes that the sport structure in Spain is

strong, and he is satisfied with the work realized by

the Spanish team in this tournament, taking into

account the level of the opponents.

Also he asserts that badminton is a young sport, and

it was not until 1992 it became an Olympic Sport.

The Badminton Spanish Federation has created several sport

su vida profesional en la Universidad de Granada como profesor, le dedica al bádminton casi el mismo tiempo que a su trabajo. Nos comenta que en la última década la Federación de Bádminton ha experimentado notables mejoras, y que se debe apoyar más a este deporte.

Reconoce que la estructura deportiva de España es fuerte. Está contento con el resultado del equipo español teniendo en cuenta que le ha tocado rivales muy fuertes como son los equipos asiáticos, reconoce que el equipo es excepcional y muy luchador.

Nos comenta que el bádminton es un deporte muy joven, ya que en 1992 se erigió como deporte olímpico. La Federación de Bádminton ha creado varios programas como son “Vuela con el bádminton” y “Se busca campeón”, estos programas van dirigidos a encontrar jóvenes valores que destaquen por su talento. También hace alusión a Carolina Marín, joven talento española que en abril de 2014 fue campeona absoluta de Europa con tan sólo 21 años, la campeona más joven de Europa.

También comenta que este deporte necesita tiempo para consolidarse por lo que pide ayuda y apoyo a las instituciones y medios de comunicación.

Nos cuenta que este torneo le parece

muy interesante, siendo la primera vez

que acude a un evento universitario, y ha

podido apreciar el gran potencial de los

estudiantes que participan este

campeonato universitario. Ahora espera

ponerse en contacto con el mayor

número de países posibles para

como éste, ya que supone un gran reto y

es un paso muy importante entre las

categorías inferiores y la máxima

competición en el bádminton.

campeonatos entre universidades a nivel mundial, ya que

supone una gran motivación para los jugadores que

compaginan el bádminton con sus estudios, y a la vez puedan

llegar a la élite de este deporte.

También afirma que la manera más importante de promover este

deporte es dándole la importancia que se merece, ya que la

mayoría de las veces la gente no disfruta de este deporte por

desconocimiento. Concluye la entrevista diciéndonos que

“desde este mismo momento, estoy pensando en cómo voy a

hablarles cuando vuelva a Suiza a la federación y a las

universidades de este tipo de campeonatos para contarles la

importancia y el potencial que tienen.”

“from this moment I am thinking about what to do when I come

back to Switzerland and how to talk to people in universities and in

the federation, telling them that this could be interesting because

Mr. David Cabello comments us the importance of sport and its

benefits. Although he is professor in the University of Granada, he

dedicates pretty much the same time to badmiton

and his work. According to Mr. Cabello, “during the

last decade working in the Badminton Federation,

this sport has evolved considerably”.

He recognizes that the sport structure in Spain is

strong, and he is satisfied with the work realized by

the Spanish team in this tournament, taking into

account the level of the opponents.

Also he asserts that badminton is a young sport, and

it was not until 1992 it became an Olympic Sport.

The Badminton Spanish Federation has created several sport

Hace pocos días dábamos a todos los participantes en este

mundial universitario de Badminton nuestra bienvenida y os

deseábamos una grata estancia entre nosotros. El tiempo pasa

rápido. Sobre todo cuando la competición es tan intensa como

ésta lo ha sido, en apretadas jornadas de mañana y tarde.

Nuestra mayor satisfacción sería que, sea cual haya sido el

resultado deportivo final, todos hayáis podido disfrutar tanto de

la competición como de Córdoba y de su Universidad. De que

hayáis hecho nuevos amigos y de que estos días permanezcan

siempre entre vuestros mejores recuerdos.

Enhorabuena al equipo de China por su titulo de campeón

mundial y a cuantos lo han logrado también a título individual. Y,

cómo no, al equipo español, que nos ha proporcionado tan

buenos momentos dentro de una progresión que, todos

estamos seguros, habrá de llevarle en el futuro a cotas mucho

más elevadas. Y enhorabuena y gracias a cuantos han confiado

y colaborado con nosotros en la organización de

estoscampeonatos: a las instituciones, a la Fisu, a la unidad

técnica del deporte, a los voluntarios... En la Universidad de

Córdoba seguiremos siempre apostando por el Deporte

University Badminton Championship, and he

answered “of course because sport creates

links, and that fact can be seen in this

tournament in which have participated 25

countries. Sport is synonym of life”. He asserts

that Cordoba is ready to host great event like

this. He highlights the importance of these

sports events that influence the economy of

the city, providing free advertise. He asserts the sponsors play

an important role, as well as he underlines the collaboration of

Coca Cola and Mahou. Mr. Reina emphasizes on the

relevance of champions in the sport of Cordoba. We conclude

the interview with Mr. Reina words: “a city without sport is a

dead city”.

During this morning we have had the privilege of

interviewing Mrs. Allison Odell. She has insisted

on the importance of sport and health in ourlives.

Also she has highlighted the importance of

teaching the youth how dangerousis doping for

athletes. At the same time, she emphasizes on

the importance of the work realized by FISU to

avoid doping. This work has a cost which is

funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which

strives each year to improve their knowledge.

Today we have had the opportunity to

interview Mr. José Matas, member of

theExecutive Committee in this

championship and director of the

University Sport Unit. He defends the

importance of practice sport and healthy

habits, and, of course, an event like this,

considering that everybody have to

supportit.

Durante la mañana de hoy, hemos tenido el privilegio de

entrevistar a la señora Allison Odell. Ella nos ha dado las

pautas como que debemos enseñar a los jóvenes a que el

dopaje es malo para su desarrollo, afectando a su salud. A

su vez, nos resalta el gran trabajo que FISU realiza para

evitar el dopaje. Su función es controlar y enseñar a los

jóvenes las consecuencias de doparse. Es trabajo

conlleva un coste que está financiado por la agencia

mundial antidopaje, que cada año se esfuerza en mejorar

su conocimiento.

Tras la jornada matinal del campeonato del mundo hemos tenido

el placer de entrevistar a José Matas López, miembro del comité

ejecutivo del campeonato y director de la unidad técnica del

deporte universitario de la UCO. Desde el primer momento

apuesta por el deporte, por los hábitos saludables, y si eso ayuda

a organizar un evento, es mucho mejor si está planificado y se

analiza todos los factores externos. Considera que un gran evento

tiene que ser apoyado por todos, de lo contario tenemos que ver

que falla.
