If you believe you paid for a meal and do not have a ticket, please check with the Registration Desk. The only meal tickets that will be sold at the Registration Desk are for the Receptions Thursday and Friday evenings. Morning and afternoon breaks each day are complimentary to all attendees. There are several restaurants near the convention center within walking distance if you have not bought meals with your registration. Session Locations: All Annual Meeting sessions will be held on the second floor of the Lynnwood Convention Center. Exhibitors and Meals will be in 2E. Breakout sessions will be in 2BC and 2D. 2016 WSHIMA ANNUAL MEETING SPEAKERS Thursday, April 28, 2016 Dawn Johnson, Seattle Children’s Hospital

• Dawn Johnson is a Senior Recruiter at Seattle Children’s. • Her areas of focus for the organization are Health Information

Management, IS/IT, and Pharmacy. • Prior to joining Seattle Children’s Dawn was a Recruiter at Fred

Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. • Dawn also spent 13 years as a Recruiter for local staffing agency, Woods

& Associates. • Dawn majored in Sociology at the University of Washington.

Laura Legg, HRG

• Laura Legg is experienced as a leader, consultant, coding expert, speaker, trainer and auditor for acute care and critical access hospitals and major health systems.

• Laura has over 30 years of health information management experience working with acute care hospitals, critical access hospital, and home services. Laura joined Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) in January of 2013. The majority of Laura’s career has been as an HIM Director with focus on all areas of coding and compliance.

• Laura has been a Registered Health Information Technician and Certified Coding Specialist since 1990 and is currently completing her RHIA through Stephens College.

Carole Morris, HRG

• Carole Morris spent 25 years with the University of California Davis Health System, with the last 7 years as the Compliance and Privacy Manager for the 600+ physicians affiliated with the UC Davis Health System.

• Since relocating to Washington, Carole joined Healthcare Resource Group as the Director of Professional Coding and Compliance and was subsequently promoted to VP of Coding Services.

• Carole has extensive experience in managing coding operations and ensuring organization compliance through risk assessment and audit development.

• Carole possesses Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication, her CCS-P through AHIMA and is Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) through Healthcare Compliance Association (HCCA).

John D. Scott, MD, The University of Washington

• Dr. Scott graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology, attended Georgetown University School of Medicine cum laude,

completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Stanford University Hospitals, and then obtained sub-specialty training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington.

• He has an active research program in viral hepatitis, which is supported by federal and pharmaceutical grants. He has published in JAMA, Lancet, Hepatology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Annals of Internal Medicine, Nature Medicine and the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

• In 2013, Dr. Scott spent 4 months at the University of Queensland, Centre for Online Health, learning about the Australian health care system and how telehealth can be used to increase specialty care access and to improve health outcomes. He was awarded the Best Paper at the 2012 Global Telehealth Conference in Sydney, Australia.

• In 2009, he launched Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes) in Washington State, the first place to replicate the ECHO model outside of New Mexico. This innovative telehealth program helps clinicians serving in rural and underserved areas with the evaluation and treatment of hepatitis C and has since expanded into the areas of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, geriatrics, heart failure, diabetes, addictions and psychiatry, and multiple sclerosis. Project ECHO uses case-based learning to increase the capacity of primary care clinicians to care for common, complex diseases. Treatment of patients with hepatitis C through Project ECHO is as safe and effective as in person care (Arora S, et al. NEJM 2011) and is cost-effective. The Project ECHO model has now spread throughout the United States and the world.

Kristi Pollard, The Haugen Group

• With more than 20 years of industry experience, Kristi is currently developing web-based and instructor-led training material and conducting training in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT.

• Kristi has an extensive background in coding education and consulting and is a national speaker on topics related to ICD-10 and CPT coding as well as code-based reimbursement.

• She has designed and developed training programs for inpatient and outpatient hospital-based coding including vascular interventional radiology and interventional cardiology CPT coding.

• Kristi has served on the Colorado Health Information Management Association’s (CHIMA) board of directors and was formerly chairperson of CHIMA’s ICD-10 Task Force.

• She is also a past president of the Northern Colorado Health Information Management Association (NCHIMA).

• Kristi devotes extra time to mentoring current and future coders through her Coder Coach blog and is the proud recipient of the 2011 AHIMA Triumph Award for Mentoring.

• She also received CHIMA’s 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Award for her work with the ICD-10 Task Force.

Sally Beahan, The University of Washington

• Sally Beahan has worked at the University of Washington for 17 years in a variety of roles; most currently she is the Director of Strategic Planning and Projects for UW Medicine’s Health Information Management Department.

• She also served as Project Advisor for Coding & CDI for the UW Medicine ICD10 Program.

• Sally is serving a 2-year term as President of the Washington State Health Information Management Association.

• She earned a Master’s in Healthcare Administration in 2009 from the University of Washington and has a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration from Seattle University.

Christine Taylor, The University of Washington

• Christine Taylor has worked at the University of Washington for 8 years in records and information management.

• Her current role is Records Officer for UW Medicine. • For several years prior to her employment at the University, Christine was

partner in a consulting firm that focused on implementing archives and information management programs in non-profit organizations.

• Christine earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Washington, and a JCL* at Catholic University in Washington, DC

Connie Calvert, RMC

• Connie is Director of Coding & Review services for Reimbursement Management Consultants (RMC)

• She is a graduate of Medical University of South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management.

• With over 20 years of experience, Connie’s past positions include those of Director of HIM, Manager of Coder/Physician Education & Training, and Coding Education and Compliance Consultant for acute care facilities nationwide.

• She has implemented CDI training programs and documentation manuals for companies & facilities and is particularly proud to have planned and implemented an HIM department from scratch for a psychiatric facility.

• Connie enjoys coaching and mentoring staff, conducting audits, researching coding issues, developing coding tools, and providing education to coders as well as providers.

• Clinical Documentation is a particular passion and as such, Connie obtained her CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) credential in 2011.

• She is active in AHIMA, SCHIMA (South Carolina State Chapter of AHIMA), and ACDIS (the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists).

Paula Dascher, Seattle Children’s Hospital • Paula has a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Medical

Technology from Colorado State University. She received certification in Health Informatics and Health Information Administration from the University of Washington.

• She is a member of the Medical Informatics Committee and manages the Document Integrity and Design Team at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In her work Paula looks for opportunities to use LEAN methodology, and continuous process improvement.

• Seattle Children’s uses eScription for dictation, 3M E-Signature, Deficiency Tracking and Distribution, and Cerner for their EMR.

• Paula manages a team that includes 29 transcriptionists and 6 additional staff supporting the clinical documentation life cycle.

Friday, April 29, 2016 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Cassi Birnbaum, AHIMA Past President The Washington State Health Care Authority: Dylan Oxford, Melodie Olsen, Ginnie Odell-Eliason, and Linda Reeder Dylan Oxford has worked for the Washington State Medicaid program for 14 years, with an emphasis on major technical and financial projects within the state Medicaid agency.

• He is currently serving as the Technical Manager for the Washington Link4Health project, which aims to facilitate clinical data exchange and care coordination across the state.

Melodie Olsen is the State Health IT Coordinator working to advance the adoption of electronic health record systems and health information exchange across the health care community in Washington State.

• She has been leading change initiatives for the State of Washington in a number of roles over the past 22 years.

• To improve the coordination of care provided for Apple Health enrollees she is currently leading Washington Link4Health, a multi-year initiative to advance the statewide electronic exchange of clinical records.

• The WA Link4Health initiative is part of the State’s long-term efforts to improve health care quality, better manage costs and improve health outcomes for all Washingtonians.

Ginnie Eliason

• Ginnie Eliason serves the Washington State Health Care Authority as the HealthIT Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager.

• She is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the Outreach and Communication Plans for WA HealthIT including Washington Link4Health and the Electronic Health Records Program.

• She enjoys meeting with providers and delivery systems across our state. Linda Reeder, RN, FACHE

• Linda Reeder is an experienced healthcare project manager who specializes in leveraging technology for safe and high quality patient services, quality improvement, regulatory compliance and effective care management.

• She also has extensive clinical experience in various inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Bill Radke

• Bill Radke now hosts KUOW's morning newsmagazine — as he did 20 years ago!

• Bill was KUOW's morning host in the '90s, and then he created Rewind, a news-satire show heard on KUOW and nationwide on NPR.

• Next, Bill moved away to Southern California to host American Public Media's Weekend America and Marketplace Morning Report.

• He returned to Seattle in 2010, hosting on KIRO-FM for two years. And now he's back home to start our days with smart news coverage and smart humor.

• The Seattle Times called Bill Radke the city's Jerry Seinfeld. He's been a comedian -- winning the Seattle International Standup Competition -- a newspaper columnist, and an author.

Evelyn Zeller, JD; Office of Civil Rights

• Evelyn joined the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), as an investigator in October 2005. She is now a supervisor in that office.

• She earned her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and then worked as an attorney with the Chief Counsel’s Office of the Internal Revenue Service.

• After relocating to Washington State, she operated a private law practice before joining the Office for Civil Rights. She is a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.

• Rhona Moses is the Director of Health Information Management for Group Health Cooperative, a non-profit integrated health plan and care delivery system serving more than 500,000 members and patients in Washington and Idaho.

• Ms. Moses previously served as manager and director of medical records in two acute care hospitals, Group Health’s Central Hospital in Seattle and Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA. She also served as Group Health’s Associate Director of Coding and Compliance.

• She is a graduate of Seattle University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information, and is a member of AHIMA and WSHIMA.

Corinne Meyer, MBA/HCM, RHIA, CCS

• Corinne Meyer is the Director of Revenue Integrity & Coding at Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle, Washington. Seattle Children’s Hospital provides specialized pediatric care for children in a five state region including Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming (WWAMI).

• Corinne has over 15 years of health information management industry experience and is currently serving as a Board Director for the Washington State Health Information Management Association.

• She has also worked in a consultative capacity with Tacoma Community College Faculty Advisory Board and South Seattle Community College to improve educational offering to area students in the field of Health Information Management.

Catherine Finnie, MHA, RHIA, CPC, CEMC, CHC

• Catherine Finnie is the HIM Coding Manager for UW Medicine, overseeing a team of 60, including coders and coding auditor/educators, with responsibility for Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center.

• Catherine started her role in healthcare at Harborview in the Charge Capture department. After working closely with several departments she made the switch to coding, taking a coder position at University of Washington Physicians (UWP). From there she was recruited for a position at Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) Compliance department and eventually became their Compliance Manager.

• From there Catherine shifted gears and went the path of Revenue Cycle working in both Chargemaster Operations and Professional Revenue Cycle at Stanford Hospital and Clinics.

• Eventually, she was enticed back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest by friends and family and spent a short period of time involved in the ICD-10

programs at NWH and Seattle Children’s Hospital, before accepting her current position at UW Medicine in early 2014.

Michelle M. Lott, CPC, CPMA • Michelle Lott is the Health Insurance Coding Specialist and the Associate

Director of the Practice Resource Center for the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA).

• Evelyn Erdely is the Reimbursement Policy Manager with First Choice Health in Seattle Washington. Over the past 5 years, Evelyn has been the Program Manager and Subject Matter Expert on the implementation of ICD10 for First Choice Health.

• Evelyn was also a member of the ICD10 Implementation Work Group for OneHealthPort, a coalition of health plans, physicians and hospitals that joined together to build a trusted community where business and clinical information could be shared securely and simply to improve efficiencies.

• Janneen is the Administrator of Regulatory Compliance and serves as Compliance Officer at The Everett Clinic in Everett, Washington with oversight of Privacy/Security and program integrity.

• Janneen has more than 20 years experience in Healthcare Business Operations, Coding/Regulatory Compliance and Privacy (HR). She is responsible for the development and implementation of organizational compliance programs and organizational strategy related to new laws and regulations associated with compliance and privacy. She oversees all HIM and Regulatory Compliance functions including training, contract management, billing and coding audits, and physician education.
