The study of past human life as revealed by relics

Archaeology helps you find the age of an object

Archaeology uses the three tests. Internal, External ,Bibliographic.

Archaeology & History

The internal test checks the document to see if it’s consistent throughout, not contradicting itself.

For example, many people have thought that the Bible has contradicted itself many times. One person ,William Hennery Burr wrote Self-Contradictions of the Bible.

The Internal Test

The External test checks to see if the document contradicts itself.

The Bible passes the external test better than any other document of it’s time, because it doesn’t contradict itself.

The External Test also checks to see if archaeological documents contradict themselves.

The Bibliographic Test checks to see if the time between the first copy to the others made by other people.

The Bibliographic Test is the most important of the three tests.

For example, if Saul Sawman wrote a document then two months later Sally Peterson copied the document but made some changes.

When an archaeologist discovers an ancient artifact one of the first things he or she asks is, how old is this thing.

When using archaeology in the absence of historical documents one of the things you use to determine the age of an document or artifacts is known age.

Another type of age is absolute age. Absolute age is the calculated age of an artifact from a specific dating method that is used to determine when the artifact was made.

The Principle of Superposition is when artifacts are found in rock or earth that is layered, the deeper layers hold the older artifacts.

The Principle of Superposition is used heavily in archaeology and geology.

When an archaeologist digs into the earth, he or she will usually find the soil called strata.

We hope you learned a lot about the history of how most artifacts and documents are found and get their approximant age.
