Best Practices Proposal  Topic:Low­ income and First­generation Students Best Practices and Resources 

 Through this course I will understand best practices applied at multiple types of institutions to support the retention of first year and low­income students. Institutional types will include: 4­year public research institutions, community colleges, liberal arts institutions, and independent and private arts institutions in California. Through my sight visits I intend to understand the implementation of both monetary and non­monetary resource and initiatives for first generation and low income students that are being carried by the student affairs division as based on the perspective of the interviewee. While many of the institutions I focused on have developed various practices to support students from a wide range of academic levels and experiences and backgrounds I focus on undergraduate students.
