Gena Luke Uwrite 1101 Writing Prompt 2 What a Classroom Can’t Teach You I’m absolutely fascinated with learning about other cultures and traveling. It’s an indescribable feeling when you get off an airplane and enter a whole new world; everything is so different from what you're used to. Before I go anywhere just like most people I go online and read about it. I started traveling when I was about 14 years old which has opened up my mind more than anything. I’ve traveled to Egypt, Morocco, Israel and Germany. Being tremendously interested in these countries I did a lot of reading about them. I was never the type of person who liked to read but once I started traveling I was exceptionally intrigued in knowing more information. You’ll be surprised how much knowledge you acquire from reading something you’re interested about. One of my favorite things is learning other languages and trying different food. Although in Egypt, Morocco, and Israel the main language is Arabic, each country has their own dialect which I had no choice but to learn. I remember when I was in a restaurant in Jerusalem and while I was reading the menu I discovered that most of the food is named something different. Traveling to a new country expands our awareness and allows us to put things into perspective. On my recent trip to Egypt about a month ago I was able to broaden my mind by reading about their political system. I would read out of the newspaper which was very difficult at first because standard Arabic is used, not like English where the way we talk is how we write. When you’re in a different country you’ll be so amused
