Introduction
This teacher’s guide is the fifth in a series of seven teacher’s guides which are developed to provide some necessary teaching techniques along with the textbooks. The teacher’s guide will help teachers conduct their teaching effectively. It includes the necessary steps of teaching with clear instruction that teachers can follow easily. Moreover, this teacher’s guide has given some useful ideas to teachers and students for preparing the teaching aids to use in their classes by themselves.
It also includes the keys of the lessons, some reading texts for listening, some songs and games. The teaching will be effective if the teachers read the teacher’s guide and textbook before teaching the lessons to students. Therefore, it is necessary for teachers to have the teacher’s guide along with the textbook.
However, the teacher’s guide is produced under the time pressure that it cannot be probed into every needed area. Some minor errors may also contain in some instructions. The Foreign Language Resource Centre highly appreciates all comments and suggestions from users and these are considered as a great contribution to the development of teaching techniques of Lao teachers. The Research Institute for Educational Sciences avails itself of this opportunity to express its sincere thanks to all contributors.

Chamnong is talking to Deng, his classmate about his kitchen: “Our kitchen is simple, and it has the same things as most Lao kitchens. There’s a motar and pestle, which we use for crushing chillies to make chilli sauce and papaya salad. We also have a chopping board. We use it for chopping meat and vegetables. There’s a large basket where we keep the sticky rice after it has been cooked. We also have a lot of small sticky rice baskets for serving the rice to the family and guests. We have some aluminium pans for cooking, and some bowls for serving soup. When I am preparing food in the kitchen, I sit on a low wooden stool. You can see stools like this in any traditional Lao house”.

B.
Once up on a time the crow was white and the peacock was black.
They were friends. One day they decided to paint their feathers to
make themselves beautiful. First the crow painted the peacock. He
carefully painted a beautiful design on each tail feather, using many
colours. The peacock was very happy.
D.
When the had finished, the peacock started to paint the crow. He
painted some designs on the crow’s wings, and he was deciding
what colours to use next.
A.
While the crow is being painted, he looked up and saw some
vultures in the sky. He saw the vultures come down and land in a
field. He knew that vultures eat the same kind of food as crows, and
he thought that there must be some food in the field.

beautifully coloured.

Mum, you are the anchor of my life and my greatest support. You are the best
and you are the music in me.
You are the ONE person on this whole earth who understood me always and
you will never know how SPECIAL you are to me. Mum, your ARMS were
always there when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a
friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson and your strength
and love has guided me and gave me WINGS to fly.
If I knew as a child what I know now, mom, I probably wouldn't have made
things so HARD for you. I should understand that you were looking out for my
best INTEREST even though it may not be impossible. I should realize how
fortunate I was to have a MOTHER who was always there for me. Mum, I
know it's too LATE for a lot of things, but it's not too late for me to tell you
that I appreciate how loving you are. Mom I want you to know that you are
always in my HEART and you will always be there forever. I love you mom
