W O W! ISSUE 144 Dec 15/Jan 16 December Events W H A T ’ S O N I N W O O D F O R D www.Woodford-Halse-VillageSignpost.co.uk twitter@woodfordVSP A Plan is coming together! Volunteers met in November to review the first draft of our Woodford Halse Neighbourhood Plan. This encapsulates the vision held by villagers for their surrounds, developed in collaboration with Daventry District Council and acts as a guide for future planning applications within the village. By having an agreed plan, we ensure a sustainable balance between our rural environment, village heritage and new developments. The Neighbourhood Plan draws upon the questionnaire responses from 129 villagers in October 2014, highlighting concerns on Roads and Parking, Housing and Transport, Health and Retail facilities, amongst many others. Many buildings are already protected by being ‘listed’. What the group now seeks is your involvement, to tell us about the smaller, ‘hidden gems’ in our locality. Tell us about any local heritage features and any green spaces worthy of comment, perhaps a milestone post, a small wild habitat, a railway bridge . . . A railway bridge? Yes, apparently the village has a twin-skew arched bridge that is unique in the country! Also, beneath the green area opposite the Social Club, Woodford Halse may have its very own ‘mini-catacombs’ from the war years? We would like to take full account of your views . Please contact Rob Snedker, Chairman of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, with your ‘hidden gems’ on 262664 or [email protected] Patricia Darby & Gary Denby, on behalf of the Neighbourhood Plan group. Woodford Halse PCSO report – Carl Barton The last six months in Woodford Halse has been very good in relation to crime. I am pleased to report a “crime free summer” marred by only one incident - minor damage to a motor vehicle. There have only been seven reported crimes this last six months. There have been issues with parking in and around the village. Parking spaces are at a premium due to the amount of vehicles on the road. I regularly have to remind people to be mindful of where they park their vehicles and not to cause an obstruction. On one occasion I had to remove a vehicle for parking on the zig zags of a crossing and causing an obstruction. I have held regular Police Surgeries in the library. The feedback I received were vehicles speeding in the village and people parking inconsiderately. I have conducted several speed checks to combat this. Around 200 new homes are being built on the Byfield Road. There were concerns around heavy goods vehicles passing through the village. Highways have offered to provide HGV diversionary signs for placement by the Parish Council. And lastly, the annual Regatta boat race was held on Friday 26th June. This is a very good event and for the second year running, the police took part! This year we had a four man boat team, with the police cadets running. They did very well in the circumstances. We hope to do better next year! A Christmas ReflectionBy the time you read this, the shops will have been selling Christmas paraphernalia for a couple of months and we will be getting fed up with the adverts on TV. I feel that this year, more than ever, Christmas is viewed by many as the great retail opportunity. The pressure to get bigger and better presents, revamp our décor in this seasons colours, more food, more presents, more ….Although for some it is a bit of fun, for many it is a source of stress and worry, so that by the time Christmas really comes they are exhausted! Yet at the heart of Christmas is the baby who had nothing, born in a stable, sleeping in the manger far from his parents home. The miracle of loving sacrifice of one who gave up divine power and majesty to come and live with us. Emmanuel – means God with us.Maybe that is why we love to sing again the Carols, not just nostalgia, but because the images they conjure up take us beyond the glitz and tinsel to innocence and love. The true meaning of Christmas. I am sure you have your own favourite carols at this time of year and I hope that you will join us at one of our many services this Christmas and have an opportunity to stop, reflect and enjoy the peace of being with God. All at St. Mary’s Church wish you every blessing at this Christmas time - Stevie
