-Billy Joel

Well, it’s all over. My time as station manager has come to an end. It certainly was a great time. Day in and day out I spent making sure the radio station was running successfully, and although that might not have always happened, I certainly tried my best.

That’s what matters most, right? The real question is what am I going to do with all my free time next semester? I’ve

spent the last year spending every day working and hanging out at the station. What am I supposed to do now? Well, I guess I’ll brainstorm a list of things to do with my extra time.

I can get back into shape, go running, watch the Star Wars trilogy straight through, watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy, read the Lord of the Rings, learn to beatbox, build a puzzle, take up ice sculpting, eat a large pizza by myself, get more sleep, clean my apartment, become a master at Fifa Soccer 2012, learn to knit, dream, go sky diving, watch the entire series of How I Met Your Mother, hang out, spend more time by myself, drink by myself, eat by myself, cry by myself…

OH MY GOD, I just realized, all of my friends are at The Buzz. I have no one else. What will I do? I’m not going to have any friends. I’ll just be by myself all the time. I have nothing without the Buzz in my life. I’m going to go crazy.

Someone please help me. Please be my friend. I don’t want to spend my final days at St. Bonaventure University all alone. Please call me at (716) 375-2332. I’ll be waiting by the phone for your call. Awwww shit! I just realized that’s the Buzz’s request line. I don’t even know my own phone number.

Damn it all. Well if you want to be my friend here’s a description of what I look like, find me and tell me you want to hang out. I’m 6’0, brown hair, brown eyes, slender body, size 11 shoe, I’ve been told my head looks like an upside down rain drop, I usually stick out in a crowd because I’m extremely good looking and I’m Number 1 in the nation accordin to the Princeton Review. That about sums me up. Awww horseshit, I’m sorry guys; I’ve lied to you. I’m not Number 1 in the nation according to the Princeton Review, The Buzz is number 1 in the nation according to the Princeton Review. I’m just a zero.

Well this is the last time I’ll be writing in The Buzzworthy, so I hope you’ve enjoyed the time we’ve spent together. If you ever want to hang out I’ll be the guy sitting in the hickey at one of the tall tables by himself, sulking in his own self-misery. I love you all, and take care!

News Ticker

Newsworthy @ The Buzzworthy

Jess Rehac, current programming director, will be taking on a new role at WSBU in the upcoming spring semester. The Buzz board of directors elected the junior education major from Buffalo, NY as the newest WSBU station manager. Rehac will assume the station manager position in January, making her the new face of the biggest student organization on campus.

Buzzworthy: How does it feel to be WSBU’s next station manager?

Jess Rehac: I’m very excited for the opportunity to be station manager. It has been something that’s always been a goal for me and I’m excited for what the next two semesters have in store for me.

BW: Why did you decide to run for station manager?

JR: I had a lot of ideas for the station and a lot of those ideas kind of come with the territory of being station manager. I’ve always loved working with the board and I’m excited to take on the role of the one who’s always there to help everyone.

BW: What would you like to accomplish for the station within the next two semesters?

JR: My main goal is to make WSBU a real presence on campus and to make sure every student is excited to come up here and do things for The Buzz — whether it’s doing a show, writing for The Buzzworthy, or reading the news. I want there to be something for everyone.

Florence+ the Machine

As 2011 — a year of stellar albums and performances by female artists – comes to a close, British group Florence + the Machine caps it all off with its highly-anticipated sophomore effort, Ceremonials.

Collaborating with a rotating group of musicians, singer Florence Welch’s powerful vocals elegantly intertwine with strong background voices, lush instrumentation and stirring rhythms to create the sound millions adore. The band released its debut album, Lungs, in 2009, which produced the hit song “The Dog Days Are Over.” Ceremonials continues to build upon the independent spirit, passionate lyrics and profound intensity the band established itself on.

She may lead the band, but Welch differs from other female superstars in the music world. With the exception of the Nov. 19

Florence Welch soars with CeremonialsBy Bryan Clark and Sam Berkhead episode of Saturday Night Live, in which

the band performed and she appeared in a skit on the show, Welch tends to keep a low profile from the spotlight. With their leader usually keeping a low public profile, the band is able to maintain a focus on its music and preserve its independent spirit to its audience.

Florence and the Machine deserves credit for being consistent with its independent spirit and ability to keep away from the mainstream microscope. Fans of indie, free-spirited music will enjoy Ceremonials more than casual music fans. There are plenty of aspects of Ceremonials for casual fans to enjoy, but they are more likely to want to listen to specific songs instead of the album has a whole.

The album’s opener, “Only If For A Night,” perfectly sets the album's tone with Welch’s powerful and echoing vocals

accompanied by a consistent and striking combination of piano and percussion. Florence’s favorite motifs — paranormal presences, dreams and graveyards — are rightly introduced at the beginning of it all.

“Shake It Off,” a powerful song about perseverance and determination to overcome the hardships and problems of life, is made very convincing by the passion the listener can hear in Welch’s voice.

“What the Water Gave Me” is a haunting song whose captivating sound structure will quickly hook listeners and have you singing along with each refrain of Florence’s affecting words. Inspired by writer Sylvia Plath’s suicide by drowning, the lyrics never become too melodramatic or trite – an impressive feat. The opening group of songs concludes with “Never Let Me Go,” a soulful, melodic song once again highlighted by Welsh’s strong vocal

As the first nips of frost that freeze your eyelashes and cause the grass to crunch beneath your boots spread through the air last month, Kate Bush released one of her best, most starkly beautiful records — the aptly named 50 Words For Snow.

Hailing from Great Britain, Bush has been one of the most influential artists of

performance and golden-hued balladry.“Lover to Lover” departs from the band’s

usual tone and style and has a more jazzy and bouncy sound than most of the album's other. “No Light, No Light,” perhaps the band’s best song yet, carries a momentous beat and sound and continues to demonstrate the band’s consistent effort to deliver passionate songs to listeners. The background vocals and earnest yearning in “Heartlines” make the song an incredible listening experience.

As Ceremonials draws closer to its end, it does have its flaws. “Seven Devils” is a very weird and at times inconsistent sounding song, which doesn’t make for a great listening experience. “Remain Nameless” doesn’t have the same strength or urgency as other songs on the album, and seems not to fit well with some of the other songs. “Bedroom Hymns,” the album’s final

song, is strange track that creepily mirrors themes of religion and prayer and ends the album on an abrupt and anticlimactic note.

Perhaps 15 tracks are too many for the album — the strength of the beginning of Ceremonials doesn’t remain consistent throughout, which is disappointing given its clear potential.

Florence + the Machine keeps to its style and deserves respect for being so unique. Music fans who enjoy independent, highly unique music and musicians who seek to display passion and intensity in their music and songs that combine both powerful vocals and sounds will likely enjoy Ceremonials. Those who aren’t as into the independent music scene should check some of the specific songs from the album highlighted earlier. Ceremonials certainly isn’t a perfect album, but it is definitely an

enjoyable music experience and anything but a sophomore slump.

Florence + the Machine is a band that always puts forth a sincere and strong effort to make meaningful music. Even in rare moments when the music falters, the passion within it makes it hard to listen to anything else.

Welch herself is quickly becoming the voice of a generation — a celestial, Stevie-Nicks-esque powerhouse.

That’s quality that all music fans must appreciate.

Kate Bush perfects soundscapes of winterBy Sam Berkhead

Florence + the Machine Ceremonials

Kate Bush 50 Words for Snow

the past three decades. From Tori Amos to Florence Welch, echoes of her canon can be heard all over today’s sonic palette.

Over the metronomic, atmospheric sounds of “Snowflake,” the album’s opener, Bush coos “I was born in a cloud … Now I am falling.” While she sings in the character of the snowflake here, there’s no reason to say her words don’t reflect the fallen, shattered world oft found in the human experience. She sets the tone for the rest of the album at once with this track, a stroke of brilliance from a veteran.

On “Misty,” a 13-minute wisp of a song that cuts deep with its ethereal melody and

chilling lyrics, Bush personifies a snowman as a lover gone cold. When Bush warbles “He is dissolving, dissolving before me and dawn will come soon. / What kind of spirit is this? / Our one and only tryst,” it feels as though she’s confiding about her broken relationship to you alone. Yet at the same time, a part of Bush remains elegantly reserved in the song, never letting you too far in.

Despite the album’s desolate, wintry expanse, Bush deftly manages to create an intimate atmosphere. Her lyrics are at once distant and immediate, aloof and claustrophobic. This stunning dichotomy, combined with 50 Words For Snow’s poignant, cathartic instrumentation, demonstrate nothing more than Kate Bush’s pure genius.

The Black KeysEl Camino

El Camino rides coattail highway By Levi Trimble

Just a year ago, Akron, Ohio duo The Black Keys released Brothers. After years of defining their sound and producing five previous albums, the couple of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney finally got the recognition they deserved. Brothers topped the list of iTunes top albums of the year and ranked in the top five of many other top-album lists, even those popularity-hating hipster rankings.

On Dec. 6, The Black Keys released its long-awaited follow-up, El Camino. Before its release many music media sites had this album high in their charts. To many more the album slightly disappoints.

With the commercial success of Brothers, many expected an album on par with the nationwide hit. El Camino just misses the mark.

One of the best parts about listening to the Keys came from the bluesy feel. Some songs on El Camino reach that expectation, especially the mid-album track “Little Black Submarine.” Many songs on the album just ride the coattails of their previous success. “Tighten Up” and “Howlin’ for You” were such commercial hits that the Keys sculpted their compositions to meet mass media expectations.

They wanted the songs to be just like their previous hits. Auerbach and Carney added keyboard sounds, added drum effect and just over-processed some tracks to get that “Howlin’ for You” sound. The lead off track “Lonely Boy” epitomizes that idea with a grainy keyboard playing at high decibels.

One of the best parts of the Keys’ previous albums like The Big Come Up, Rubber Factory and Attack and Release came from the pure raw and treble-high sounds from having only a guitar and a drummer. Bass has been added to many of the new tracks, fueling the change from raw, intense spotlighting to a full-band sound.

Now don’t get this reviewer wrong, the album does rock. It just doesn’t meet the high expectations placed upon it. “Lonely Boy” energetically starts off the album. “Little Black Submarine” adds the sentimental acoustic sound with the driving force of pounding power chords. “Money Maker” proves itself as the closest-sounding track to their previous sound. The power chord use, crunchy guitar, drums without effects and moving melody reminds me of the Big Come Up track “I’ll Be Your Man.” “Run Right Back” clearly

acts as the dance tune of the album, forcing anyone who listens to bob their head or tap their feet. The rhythm drives the song and the lyrics match the tone perfectly.

However, “Nova Baby” may be one of the worst attempts in the Keys’ history. “Mind Eraser,” though not anywhere near as weak as the aforementioned, closes the album on a mediocre note.

El Camino has a lot going for it. Does it match Brothers? Does it keep the consistency of their previous sound? The answer, for now, remains, “not really.” Make of it what you want, El Camino lacks some of what made the previous albums so tasty. Despite all its flaws, the album is still a Black Keys album and has great charisma. A compromise between this new sound and the old may make for an album better than the rest.

Atlas Sound brings soul to lyrics By Bill Mulligan

Music is Bradford Cox’s life, and

it’s tearing him apart. After recording Parallax, Cox was forced to continue his day job — fronting Deerhunter. The tour that followed was so stressful it caused him to have a nervous breakdown. He realized that all he had to his life was his music as a result.

Cox’s songwriting style is best described as stream-of-consciousness, meaning what the listener hears is straight from his brain, without any filter or organization. The result is intensely personal and a pretty discomforting, like listening to someone’s therapy sessions or watching someone’s brain surgery.

“Te Amo,” perhaps the most musically eclectic piece, features the cleanest sample of Cox’s vocals. The song is radio friendly without sacrificing its integrity as Cox’s soulful crooning is like candy for your ear.

Other songs, like “Modern Aquatic Nightsongs,” are typical Atlas Sound. Cox’s vocals are subversive and come to the listener like a schizophrenic would hear voices in his or her head.

The most powerful tracks on the album are “Terra Incognita” and “Flagstaff,” which were both recorded by Cox himself in his hotel room at the Ace Hotel in New York as a result of limited studio time. The former is a stripped down, hallowed out center of Cox’s mind with whispering acoustic guitars and vocals as fragile as spider-webs. The latter is an arpeggio-filled acoustic bonanza with Cox’s voice waxing and waning like a pendulum. The production is raw and encapsulates the sense of loneliness and distance that he felt while writing the song.

“Lightworks” closes the album on a lighter note musically with a catchy chorus accompanied by upbeat electric guitars. It’s one of the few glimpses of hope that we’re given in this record that laments the trials of time and distance.

Overall, Parallax is an artist’s brooding reflection on his path in life that accurately depicts the thoughts of one of the more enigmatic minds in indie rock.

As if receiving such recognition after releasing Wit’s End less then six months ago wasn’t enough, Cass McCombs is back with another album. Humor Risk works well against the torpid pull of Wit’s End, which delved into the darkest depths of the human psyche.

McCombs begins his narrative ways in “Love Thine Enemy,” the first track. It’s a fuzzed out folk jam. He proclaims to “love thine enemy,” but he continues on “but hate the lack of sincerity.” It’s a slow moving spat of feeling like

we’re forced into so many things, love being one of them. McCombs calls out the fakeness in our moral teachings.

McCombs’s soothing vocals and telltale lyrics guide you through a trip across a mountainside or beachfront. The album has the pull to command an audience to a gentle sway. Humor Risk, though a quick release for a rather recent artist, is a solid album that may not be as drawn out as Wit’s End, but it’s concise storytelling offers another approach for McCombs to explore.

In 2009 the stars must have aligned just right. It marked the year when Dirty Projectors and Bjork were brought together by way of a benefit show they were supposed to be playing in a New York City bookstore. As Dirty Projectors, vocalist David Longstreth put it simply in a letter, it was merely a matter of yeses between the band and Bjork to do a collaboration.

Amber, also a member of Dirty Projectors, sparked the inspiration for the mash-up from walking along Mount Wittenberg near San Francisco and spotting a family of whales. From there, Longstreth wrote the story of a mother orca whale (Bjork), her children (Amber, Haley, Angel), and Amber the observer (David).

Orcas bring together two unlikely artists for a good cause By Paige Winston

“When the Word Comes to an End,” is Longstreth professing the love his character has for the beautiful family of Orcas. Longstreth is layered over a fragmented harmony from the family of whales. Where the rest of the album sees little percussion action, this track has a break for a mild guitar solo that compliments the happiness of the song.

An eerie howl from the children of the story introduces “Sharing Orb,” a story of a mother’s pain and a broken family—yes, whales have feelings too. Bjork tells a morbid tale of poachers encroaching on their family and you’re placed in the action when you are told about an

approaching engine. This part of the tale

brings you deep into human greed. “Out to but seize my blood,” Bjork’s throaty gargle explains, “Ooh, never enough / your weapons, your noisy spears in my skull.” The final three tracks — one of them being “Sharing Orb,” coupled with that, Longstreth on “No Embrace,” where the onlooker understands the mothers pain and recognizes the suspicion she has against Longstreth’s character who reminds the mother whale of poachers.

“No Embrace” and “All We Are,” the two last tracks on the album, are go-to songs

as well. You can hear a profound Dirty Projectors influence that the rest of the album didn’t shed much light on. One thing about this collaboration is that you can recognize the creative differences that prove to shift back and forth throughout.

On top of the initial benefit concert, all proceeds from the digital sales will be given to the National Geographic Society. The donations will be put to creating protected areas for marine life in international waters.

A Roast of Kyle Zappia

Kyle, you’re one that put me on this board; you opened the door and let me in. So, here we go.

Future board members are likely to debate which was more obnoxiously loud: Kyle’s ringtone or Kyle’s laugh. I say the laugh. The first time I heard you laugh Kyle, I thought there was a donkey in the station.

I think I speak for all the board when I say that we felt that we were in safe hands with you as station manager. I wish we felt the same way about riding in a car you drove.

Kyle,You might be a little cute, but you’re definitely stinky. As sta-tion manager you only crashed two computers; we didn’t win an MTVu Woodie Award, and we only managed to reclaim the title No. 1 college radio station in the nation. Oh also, you managed to stay out of any swamps. I guess you did an OK job as station manager.Better luck next time,-Meaghan

I knew the moment we met that I hated Kyle Zappia. I’m not sure what it was exactly about him that disgusted me. Perhaps it was his Justin Bieber-esque hairstyle. Or maybe it was the drool he left on the couches after those naps. We all saw the stains, Kyle. Or maybe it was his laugh. His laugh… But I digress.

Kyle and I haven’t spoken much, except for the occasional cross-burton shouts of “I hope you trip and fall on something very solid and sharp” at 1:30 am on a Saturday night.

So I really never got to know Kyle that well, which, regardless to say, I am eternally grateful for. I know he wears shorts, sometimes. And

Dear Kyle, No I will not go on a date with you. Boom roasted. Love, -Kate

I was too busy trimming my pencil stash and fixing up my white van to write one of these. Sorry, just following in your footsteps. -Paige

You have troll-like feet, you're extremely and abnormal-ly gassy, you think you're Mr. cool, your laugh is ridiculous and not in a good way and I'll spare embarrassing you further. Boom, roasted!!! -Victoria

Kyle, I never want to see that creepy mustache encroach upon your upper lip EVER, and if you ever fart within a 10-foot radius of my person, I will karate kick you without hesitation…again. Other than that, keep up with those classy button-downs and you’ll be set. -Karly

Time flies when you’re having fun. I wonder what came faster to you this semester: the end of your station manager term or the deadline to submit your capstone.

Now that you’re retiring Kyle, you’ll probably have time to stay up until 5 a.m. instead of 4 a.m. every night. You’ll have more time to strum your guitar, toss cheese balls around our apartment and generally mess with my head.

I’ve been thinking about what I should give you to celebrate

your successful turn as station manager. My dad got a watch when he retired. I’ll get you a watch so you’ll be on time for whatever class you left. I’m not saying that you’re sometimes late for class or that watching your time isn’t something you’re good at. Well you know what, I don’t think a watch would make any difference to you.

Roast over. Sign up for News in January.

-Clarky

eats “cheesy balls” which I’m 68% confident is code for something entirely different.

All I can really say from the bottom of my heart is, Kyle Zappia sucks. I don’t know who he bribed to get that #1 spot in the nation while he was station manager, but trust me, he doesn’t deserve it.

Kyle Zappia was a worse Station Manager than he is a driver, and believe me, that’s saying A LOT. But despite all of the flaws we can constantly point out for hours about the man, and I do mean for hours, The Zap Man did bring positives to

the Buzz. He brought the textbook

on “how not to do this job”. He brought me. And he brought his departure. So thank you, Kyle, for finally leaving. It couldn’t have come soon enough.

I hope you know I hate you, and silently wish for your demise every chance I get.

With Love,

(kidding about that love part, LOL LMAO ROTFL)

Maybe I should’ve been station manager. BOOM-- roasted. -Shannon

A Roast of Kyle Zappia

Kyle Zappia.

You know him as the man who has fearlessly led WSBU for the past year; the man in charge when we made it into the Top 10 of MTV’s Woodie Awards; the man who lifted us into the #1 spot on the Princeton Review’s list of the best college radio stations in the nation; the man who calmly paved the way through a computer crash, legal issues, and equipment failure.

On the Board of Directors, we know him differently.

To us, Kyle is one of the loudest, gassiest people we know. We know that his driving skills leave something to be desired, though I have to admit pulling a complete

What’s makes a great station manager? Is it the teeth, the smile, the laugh? (UH-HA-HA-HA-HA) Probably not, but we all know that these are things that define our fair manager more than his status as manager of the number 1 station in the nation. People will miss the beard from last year, but this year we lose much more. His smile is infectious, like gonor-rhea. Always the flirter, which woman reading can’t say Kyle Zappia has hit them on. Ask him and he’ll say, “I hit on girls sometimes, but not all the time.” No man, it is all the time.

The following questions were recorded in New York City over 200 times.

“Should I have asked her for her number?”

“She looked cute, should I have asked for her number?”

“We’re late for the train Victoria, should I ask the teller for her number?”

“Which way are we go-ing V?”

“She was cute wasn’t she? I wish I had her number.”

So maybe I don’t know what makes a great sta-tion manager, but I know what makes a great Kyle, and it’s the charm, the fun, and above all the laugh.

-Tony

Kyle,You and I have shared

something that most would envy. We lived on the same floor, we lived in the same building twice and we have been a part of this station for all four years of our undergrad careers. Luckily for me I did not share something . . . which I will list off right now.

I do not envy Scott Wozer who shared rooms with you and got to know how bad you smell. You’re fragrance reminds me of black mold covered in burnt hair with a nice bouquet of spoiled milk. Let us not forget that you had two sources of this odor on you at all times, your feet and your flatulents.

I do not envy Adam Kroger who shared another bodily function

with you. That’s right, you peed on him accidentally. We will not go into details.

I do not envy anyone who has ever ridden in your car, and I have done that. You have fishtailed and swerved so violently I almost considered walking to Cleveland when you drove me to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This is why we had to pick a girl to replace you. We know Jess won’t smell bad, she is not a crazy driver and the apocalypse will come before Jess urinates on someone.

Thanks for all your hard work and for being such a great friend over these past four years. You will forever be part of my family.

-Levi

U-turn in the middle of Olean during rush hour was mildly impressive.

We know to proceed cautiously if he is the only man stuck in the board room with a bunch of females; Kyle is more terrified of being surrounded by girls than a pre-pubescent teenager at his first middle school dance, and any mention of clothes or shopping will cause him to react just as immaturely as one.

I know that his hobbies include running, burping and changing my Facebook profile picture to trolls.

And yet with all of his quirks and all of his flaws, anyone who has been a part of the Buzz over

the past year owes Kyle a lot. He has fearlessly led us into greatness, and WSBU has only come out of the past year bigger and better than when his reign as Station Manager began. So thanks Kyle, and good luck wherever you’re heading now. I think it’s called the “real world” out there and I hear it’s pretty scary, but after everything you went through with us since last January, real life should be a cake walk.

-Jess

What to say about Kyle Zappia? Zap-a-Snackia, the Bug-Zapper, the legendary rapper, the man known for his dapper? Kyle can hardly be called any of these things, but ever since we met at that fateful soccer match four years ago, I have come to find many other words to describe this man. I have narrowed down my Webster’s-sized list of words to define him in these 5 most expressive terms.

Kyle has been a fantastic staffer, News Director, Station Manager,

and roommate, and that this list is not intended to discourage future employers or roommates, but rather to serve as a survival guide and reference book if you plan to spend some real time with him.

5. Fragrance. Many of you with weaker noses out there might say that he “constantly smells” or “probably sleeps with dirty garbage” or “doesn’t use deodorant when he runs out because he can

get some when he goes home in a month.” Only two of these are true. I can tell you that once you live/work with him for three years, a mere 60 percent of those odors really continue to bother you .

4. Work Ethic. Kyle has an exceptional work ethic and perseverance rivaled only by St. Bonaventure’s security on the hunt for parking violators.

Roommates, do not attempt to compete with Kyle’s ability to procrastinate. He will outlast

Roast/Goodbyes

Spencer Timkey has been a close friend of mine since the begin-ning of our freshman year here at Bonaventure. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out we both would be seated on the Board of the Buzz. His passion for sports, and our school, led him to the title of Sports Director, and I can honestly say for my past two semesters on the board, he has gone above and beyond. With a successful sports talk show, the broadcasting of basketball, baseball and hockey games, and a strong loyalty to the station, Spence’s legacy has been cement-ed here at WSBU. Who knows where this talented, charming, rugged-good-looks-having J/MC major will go to next? The sky’s not the limit for this guy, only the starting point. Much love my brother, towards your next inevi-table accomplishment.-James

KATE! There’s so much to say! I’ll start with, thank you! Thanks for being such a phenomenal director with so many phenom ideas. Mostly, thanks for having confidence in me and being open to my ideas. We made a top-notch team with our Hickey lunch dates and hanging out, always having something new and exciting to bond over. You’re still going to be around next semester, and we’ll still be able to do all of this, partner! Hopefully, I’ll be able to fill the big shoes you’re stepping out of.

BABY MONKEY! With love, -Meggy

I cannot thank Shannon enough for giving me the nickname "V." At my first banquet she thought "Victoria" was too long of a word and it was better to keep it simple. I'm gonna miss her random stories, crazy complaints about anything and everything, her cards and care packages from her family, taking dressing up for the banquet to a whole new level, our gossip sessions, deciding if she looks better as a blonde or a brunette was a topic that went back and forth for awhile last year and I've never seen some-one so excited for chicken finger wrap Monday as I have from Ms. Shepherd. To put it simply, to know Shan-non is to love Shannon. I guess I'll be seeing ya out on the streets of Allegany and at the OP. See ya later Shanwow!! --Victoria

Charles, Charles, wherefore art thou Charles? Well, usually you’re working into the dawn hours the night before Buzzworthy distribution, but sometimes we’ll catch you on stage at a Mellowfin Tuna show, hooking up miscellaneous electronics in the DJ booth, recording PSAs or just doing whatever needs to be done with a big goofy smile on your face.

What takes me an hour to do on InDesign you do in .5 seconds, and for that I’ll be eternally grateful. Good luck with whatever you choose to pursue, whether it be music, writing, blogging or a combination. I learned a lot from you this year, Levi. Thanks for that. Keep smiling!

Much Love,-Karly

you. Take away his guitar, block addictinggames.com, unplug the TV, slip him sleeping pills- he will still stay up late enough to get his work done before deadline, and you will be left exhausted, collapsed at the bottom of a pit you’ve dug yourself into by trying to keep up with him.

3. Sound. Whether it’s his distinctive laugh, wall-penetrating voice, beautifully piercing whistle, untimely ringtone (and alarm clock), or some really great jams, sound fills this man’s life. And Kyle’s got a killer taste in music. I’m almost positive it’s why he was

originally given the News Director position and probably why I continue to let him run the DJ booth during our shows even when he can’t go a week without noticeable dead air.

2. Personality. Kyle has an infectious, lively personality. In fact, it is probably one of his best traits, but this is still a roastof sorts, so I have to find something interesting to say.

1 .Friend/husband/lover… Station Manager. If you’ve seen us play soccer or basketball together, listen to us serenade you with duets, or watch us run by your window late on a Saturday night, it’s no secret Kyle’s my other half. What you may not know is that when mentioning us

together, my name always comes first (hence- “Skyle”). He really has been a fantastic friend, and I am eternally grateful for him convincing me to join WSBU back when we were eager freshmen down the hall from each other in Robinson Hall.

Look at him now, your classic Buzz rags-to-riches story: awaiting a call from those music elitists for a 1-3a.m. slot on a weeknight, to leading our beloved station to number one in the college nation.

Cheers to the greatest of the greats- Kyle Zappia. Stop farting.

-Scott

points are revealed, references to earlier Muppet works and when musical of dance numbers inconvenience the characters. The film includes all of the classic Muppet jokes and features an endless stream of cameo appearances ranging from Selena Gomez to Mickey Rooney.

The Muppets Movie is very well done, clever, witty and heartfelt. It will certainly reboot the characters for the new generation as well as create a sense of nostalgia for those who grew up with them. Thought its humor is cute and innocent, it stands strong with the rest of Muppet history and

Goodbyes/A Night at the Theater

The Buzzworthy Reviews the Latest Feature Films

The new Muppet movie opened Wednesday, and the loveable Jim Henson characters are generating a new buzz to their audiences. Jason Segal, being a huge Muppet fan, brought the gang back together and showed the world how the Muppets will always be legends among the major motion picture industry.

The movie takes place in modern day Hollywood; A place that has moved on from the former innocence of the Muppet Show and developed a more cynical style of humor. The film centers on Gary (Jason Segal) and his little Muppet brother Walter (voice of Peter Linz). Walter had never truly felt he was where he belonged and dreamed of meeting Kermit and the gang his entire life.

When Walter finds out the famous Muppet Studios are being torn down by the evil oil baron Tex Richman (Chris Cooper), Walter and Gary make it their mission to enlighten Kermit and get all the Muppets back together for one more show to save their studio. It’s been a long time since they all performed together, and many, like the never to be counted out Miss Piggy, are not willing to go back to the old days.

The film, although too corny at times, was all around a hysterical work that makes many pop culture references and puts a ridiculous spin on a Muppet musical. The cast is constantly referring to money in the budget, when plot

turns over a new chapter for the whole franchise. It has been 12 years since the Muppets took over the screen, but they are back with one of their strongest films yet.

It’s time to play the music; it’s time to light the lights. It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet show tonight. The world needs the Muppets. The beloved characters are on the silver screen where they belong.

I really didn’t begin truly loving my college experi-ence until I joined the Buzz Board of Directors in the Spring 2011 semester.

Being part of the Buzz has been one of the best experi-ences of my life, and Erika Carlson helped make that possible.

I’m so lucky to have gotten to know Erika this year. When I came to the board of directors, she allowed me to bring my crazy and spontaneous personality to the news department. She stays calm if things

go wrong. She always has a good-natured attitude every time you see her.

I consider my ability to make people laugh one of the best talents a person can have, and one of the best things about working at the Buzz this past year for me has been making Erika laugh.

Erika, thanks for putting up with me this year. Thank you for not getting mad when I kept screwing up newscasts during my first few weeks on the board. Thank you for allowing me to be myself and for not putting down my

sometimes over-the-top personality.

You are one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Being yourself and your kind attitude will serve you ex-tremely well in the future.

Enjoy your last semester of college. Please don’t be a stranger at the station. I hope I can make my As-sistant News Director’s ex-perience as good as you’ve made mine. I also hope that I’ve become as good a friend to you as you’ve become to me.

Thanks for everything,-Clarky

Take Us To Your Leaders: Some Words From Your Editor-In-Chief

I remember sitting in the Murphy Mac lab making Buzzworthy layouts to try to impress the editor-in-chief at the time. Apparently it worked when Mike asked me to be Co-Public Relations Director with Pat Hosken.

For two-and-a-half years Pat and I became the voices of music and entertainment, creating 25 editions of The Buzzworthy. We went to concerts together, interviewed bands and shared the incredible experience of running a magazine. We felt like generals leading troops against the horde of mainstream music trying to pollute the masses of ear canals. Although, that thought is cynical and quite rude to the people who love listening to acts such as Lady Gaga and Nickelback.

Now I come to the end of my tenure. For three whole years I had to fill the shoes of Hellinger winner Jordan Steves and his successor Amelia Diamond. These legends of St. Bonaventure set the bar quite high for Pat and me. I tried my best, won department of the semester and produced the highest volume of Buzzworthies in WSBU history. I feel accomplished.

Despite all that it is the future of this publication I truly care about. I know it will be in good hands. Karly Gombert, my lovely assistant and successor, has the prowess and passion to keep this magazine at the highest levels of efficiency and quality. I have no worry about that.

However, I will leave with some words of advice. To Karly, remember to keep your eyes and ears fresh and to stay open-minded but stay firm to your

beliefs. Remember we are a radio station – the besat damn station in the country – and that we play music. In fact, we play alternative rock, hip hop and classic rock. Make sure you are well versed. Don’t be afraid to diversify but stay true to the standards set by my predecessors. I know you will do an excellent job.

To the amazing staff I’m leaving behind. You have been the heart and soul of the station. Without your dedication this magazine could not happen. You have great ears and even greater hearts. Keep up the good work and always make sure to put in the cliché 110 percent.

The work will never stop so overcome all adversity and you will be fine. Finally to the freshman of future classes, as you read this piece in the archived Buzzworthies file make sure you prove yourself worthy. You all have the talent and dedication inside you. Just get involved.

The board room has always been the greatest place to hang out and share experiences. Go to the station sit on the comfy couches and relax.

We are all family. We will remain family. Everyone that I mentioned in this editorial has been a huge part of my life and I can do no more – because there are no words great enough and filled with enough grandeur to have the impact I want – then say thank you for being my friend, companion and most of all my brother/sister. You all mean so much to me. Keep the tradition rolling.

I will miss this place but my time has come to say goodbye. Thank you all for reading and make sure you continue to be a part of this amazing place.
