Dear Readers,

I hope you enjoy all parts of the newPlaylist. Each section gives you informationon whats going on with your favorite artistsof today. Since this is the rst magazine, itwill give you just an idea of the better thingsto come. My favorite section is Scandalous. Ilove gossip about celebrities, especially when

its about someone as outragous as LadyGaga! Usually any form of news about herbeing abnormal is, well, normal. But when

you add a love aair gone bad romance, itmakes her seem more human and less meatsack. It only seemed appropriate to makeone of the rst articles in Playlist about her.

Chances are shell end up being one of ourfront page stories in the near future.

Each month, I plan to let you in on

the best songs, the newest album releasand info on old artists rising back to the

top of the fame ladder. And if that doesinterest you, then maybe the monthlyfeature article will! It deals with the lov

and hates of music and everything else between that just drives you crazy (gooor bad!) And the Playlist never stays on

In the music industry, there are nowover 20 different genres. Its not just pop,rock, jazz and hip hop. Theres differentkinds of blues and r&b, classic rock andmodern rock. When you go outsidethe genres to the people who ac-tually listen to them, there aredifferent groups. Some groupslisten to Grunge. Some listento Reggae. The point is, thesegroups hardly interact when itcomes to their interests inmusic. But why only stickto the one? In my opinion,people should be more opento different music genres.So many good things cancome from adding variety toyour musical interests. You dis-cover things you never thought youd likeand connect with more people. Music is aworld on its own. Its up to us to open thedoor to that world and its many cultures.

Growing up, people stick to whatthey know. So when they listen to thesame radio station or cds all the time,they tend to feel more for that genre ofmusic. But its good to see what else is outthere. You may nd something new andfun that isnt the norm for you, but has agood beat that you like. Its simple. Everynow and then, try to change the stationfor a whole car ride or buy a cd for a bandeven if you have no idea who they are.

Instead of ranting about Vietnam

and The Man Hinder sets their sights

on fame whores and Kanye West. Of course

there are still plenty of songs about the ladies,

like the completely un-subtle Striptease which willmake you feel a bit dirty inside.

Of course theres no way to pay homage to just the

good parts of a genre, even one as simple as 80s rock.

Like Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion, Nightmare

has a few power ballads that stick out completely and

break up the ow of the album.

It also bears mentioning that Sex, Drugs and Rock

and Roll makes for a pretty shallow message in theend. While the songwriting is surprisingly clever the

songs are still mostly about getting drunk and doing

something foolish. However, I think weve all been

there and can appreciate a little of the sentiment.

My one real complaint about this whole homage of

an album is that it doesnt sound like a true homage.

bands before them.

Looking back on their catalog, Nightmare den

represents a stand-alone project with a complete

new sound. Which begs the question, Why not p

Spaghetti Incident? For those of you not familiaGuns N Roses, The Spaghetti Incident was a cov

album they did of songs from bands that inuen

them, mostly from the emerging LA punk scene.

I believe the best homage to their inuences wo

be to have made Nightmare their own The Spa

ghetti Incident instead of a blatant rip-o with

more timely lyrics.

Still, every band can be accused of ripping o theinuences. Its almost inevitable. All in all Hinder

done a ne job on All American Nightmare. Its

Appetite for Destruction but its good if you like

more traditional rock experience or if you want t

your dad to stop playing Van Halen all day.
