Two men were walking through a field one day when they spotted an

enraged bull. Instantly they darted toward the nearest fence. The storming

bull followed in hot pursuit, and it was soon apparent they would not make

it.

Terrified, the one shouted to the other, "Put up a prayer, John. We're in

for it!"

John answered, "I can't. I don't know what to say. I've never made a

public prayer in my life."

"But you must!" implored his companion. "The bull is getting awful close

to us."

"All right," panted John, "I'll say the only prayer I know, the one my fa-

ther used to repeat at the table: 'O Lord, for what we are about to receive,

make us truly thankful.'"

Something tells me that this man's gratitude was not sincere.

As we approach a special time of year called Thanksgiving, I hope that

your heart is sincerely filled with appreciation for all that God has done for

you. Take time to count your blessings. Recall his intervention and his pro-

vision.

Then take this recollection of gratitude to a new level. Ask yourself

how you are going to express gratitude for all that God has done. Thanksgiv-

ing can be expressed through praise, service, generosity, kindness and a

whole host of other forms. In short, your entire life is to be an expression of

gratitude to God for the life and salvation that He freely gives.

In 2 Corinthians 9:15, that great Christian leader Paul wrote these

words, "Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"

Let's live out that thanksgiving just not one day out of the year. Let's

live it out every day.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Pumpkin Patch a great suc-

cess. I have to admit that I didn’t really know what to expect, but the church

really came through and made this year’s Pumpkin Patch a great experience.

A special thank you goes out to all the storytellers, Eric Krpejs, and Tim and

Debbie Kennedy for their super hard work this year. We couldn’t have done

it without the hard work from these dedicated God-serving individuals.

With the holiday season just around the corner, I know many of you have a

lot on your plates. With fall activities coming to a close, winter activities

ramping up, and a whole host of personal and family needs, it is important

for us to make sure that we are still walking in the direction that God has

planned for us. I encourage you as we move through this season to find time

to focus on Jesus and allow Him to speak to your hearts. Make sure to set

aside time in your daily routine to be in the Word and allow yourself to wor-

ship and heal on a regular basis. I know for me, I like to start each day with

a series of worship songs playing on my computer while I allow my heart

and mind to focus on the will of God for that day.

Upcoming Events and Changes: There will be a Youth Fall Harvest Party/Bonfire on Saturday November 1st from 6:30pm to

8:30pm at the Pumpkin Patch. Dress as your favorite farmer, cowboy, hillbilly or redneck.

There will be games, music, and food. Bring Friends.

The Casting Crowns/Mandisa/Sidewalk Prophets Concert in Greensboro on Saturday No-

vember 8th. For those who have purchased tickets or reserved tickets, we will be leaving the

church at 5:00PM.

Sunday night youth group will be moved to a new time of 6:00PM starting Sunday No-vember 9th.

The Children will be meeting at Archdale Friends Church on November 2nd and 16th from

5:30PM to 7:00PM for Christmas Musical practice. This is open to anyone wanting to sing

or perform. AUMC is providing snacks for the practice on the 2nd, so ideas and donations

would be appreciated.

Note: We still have many needs for adult volunteers in both our youth and children’s minis-tries. Here is a list of a few of the highlighted areas:

∗ 2nd/3rd grade Sunday school class – 3rd Sunday of each month

∗ Children’s Church – 1st Sunday of each month

∗ Assistant for Sunday school class – all ages/all weeks

∗ Youth Group adult small group leaders/chaperones ∗ Audio/Video/Technology Guru – someone who can work with Travis to lay out weekly

Thank you to everyone who helped with

this year’s Pumpkin Patch. We had a very successful seasons and could not have done it

without all of our volunteers.

Thank you for supporting

this Youth fundraiser.

Church Family,

Cards, prayers, flowers, hugs, food, phone calls, money, visits, prayer shawls, gifts & love. It’s hard to say thank you for so much support. We are thankful to be a part of such a wonderful family.

We love each of you,

Dan, Laurie & Lizzie Smith

Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for all the prayers, food, and visits since I broke my leg October 8th. I have not been on the receiving end of your love and help for a while now, and I had forgotten how wonderful it is to receive. Whenever Garret would put together dinner from the food you brought to the house, he would hand it to me and say, "Welcome to church!" Susannah, Garret, and I really appreciate all of your attention and help. Love, Cheryl

STEPHEN MINISTRY

THANKSGIVING PRAYER

Our loving God, as your chosen people, holy and dearly loved by you, we ask for your guidance

and blessing on our Stephen Ministry.

We pray for our Stephen Leaders and Ministers, that they may be clothed with compassion, kind-

ness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Guide their learning and be with them through the joys

and challenges of their ministry.

We pray that individuals in our congregation with the gifts and abilities to serve as Stephen Minis-

ters may be moved by your Spirit to come forward and serve in this ministry.

And we pray that each of us, during difficult times in our lives, will recognize our need to receive

care from others and be willing to accept your care through our brothers and sisters in Christ.

As we participate in Stephen Ministry, help us to remember that over all these Christian virtues we

need to put on love, which brings harmony to diversity. May love be the tie that binds us.

And whatever we do, in word or in deed, we do it all in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God

our Father through him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

For more information contact Stephen Leader, Peggy Johnson or Rosa Allred at 336-431-7111.

sympathy to the family of:

Joe Smith, Sr. (friend of Donna Harrill)

Mary Louise Sullivan (We’d had no contact with Mary Louise for several

years and recently discovered that she passed away

Election Advice In 1774, John Wesley, co-founder of the Methodist

Church, offered this advice to people who’d be voting:

Vote, without fee or reward, for the person you judge

most worthy.

Speak no evil of the person you vote against.

Take care your spirits aren’t sharpened against those

who voted on the other side.

The crown, a symbol

of royal authority,

represents Jesus, the

King of Kings. It can also symbolize the

“crown of glory”, the eternal reward that

faithful Christians receive in heaven (see 1

Peter 5:4). Three crowns are often used to

represent the wise men who traveled from

the East in search of the baby Jesus.
