But as for me, it is good to be near God. — Psalm 73:28

We have no greater privilege than to draw near to God. We come to him through the merit of Christ crucified. We come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we come with God’s promise that he will draw near to us ( James 4:8).

If your faith has not yet come to rest in Christ, and if God is awakening in your heart a desire to take the next step, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact the pastor or speak to him as you leave the sanctuary. A husband and wife team will also be standing next to the pastor following the service to speak with anyone interested in exploring what it means to know Jesus Christ or to join this church.

May our gracious Lord draw near to you wonderfully in this service today.

The Call to Worship ...................................................................................... Psalm 42† As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come before God?

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?

Hope in God, for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Let us worship God.

But the Word of our God stands forever.

† The Confession of Faith ......................................................................Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Baptism Response

7

I cannot tell why he whom angels worshipshould set his love upon the sons of men;or why, as shepherd, he should seek the wanderers to bring them back, they know not how or when. But this I know, that he was born of Marywhen Bethlehem’s manger was his only home, and that he lived at Nazareth and labored;and so the Savior, Savior of the world is come.

I cannot tell how silently he suffered,as with his peace he graced this place of tears; or how his heart upon the cross was broken: the crown of pain to three and thirty years. But this I know: he heals the broken-hearted and stays our sin and calms our lurking fear; and lifts the burden from the heavy laden, for yet the Savior, Savior of the world is here.

I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship when at his bidding every storm is stilled;or who can say how great the jubilationwhen all the hearts of men with love are filled. But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture and myriad, myriad human voices sing, and earth to heaven, and heaven to earth will answer. At last the Savior, Savior of the world is King!

Offering and Prayer of Dedication

Once in darkness, now in light.Once blind, now you see.Once a sinner, now a saint.Once bound, now free.

That’s the power of the Cross, see the chains fall. That’s the power of the Cross, see the chains fall.

Once a stranger, now a child.Empty, now filled.Once condemned, now reconciled.Broken, now healed.

Once a prodigal, now home.Once lost, now found.Once an enemy, now a friend.Once poor, now crowned.

That’s the power of the Cross, see the chains fall. That’s the power of the Cross, see the chains fall.See the chains, see your chains fall.See the chains, see your chains fall.
