WE GATHER IN GOD’S PRESENCE

As people of faith, we walk with intention. May our intention be toward right relationship with our Creator, the land and with the traditional peoples of this land. May our journey be one of courage and healing as we long for a deeper unity among all people. Help us Creator, we pray.

Welcome and Announcements Lighting of Christ Candle

Prelude: Blessed Assurance arr. Bernadine Johnson Opening Hymn: Let Us Build A House MV 1

1 Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, A place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; Here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place. 2 Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true, Where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign a new. Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s space; Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

4 Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone

To heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face; Let us bring an end to fear and danger: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place. 5 Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard And loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace; Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Opening Prayer (in unison) Life-giving God, You create for community, Your love is made real throughout the world, Through Your compassion, we learn and grow in faith, As we gather on this Worldwide Communion Sunday, We are aware of our separateness and togetherness today, May we discover a deeper communion in You. In this discovery, we also trust in Your ways, Your mercy, which is full of compassion and kindness, Your healing, that repairs and restores, Your forgiveness, giving life and freedom, May we receive these gifts of grace and offer them as well, Hear us as we offer these prayers in silence… (Silence)

Words of Hope and Healing One: God’s rule is love. God’s law includes mercy. God’s ways are a harvest of forgiveness. All: May we live as forgiven people, now and always. Amen.

WE LISTEN TO GOD’S WORD

Special Music: Take Up His Song by Laura A. Herman

Scripture Reading: Psalm 19 (VU p. 740-1)

Refrain:

Glory and praise to God whose word brings life.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the vault of the sky reveals God's handiwork. One day speaks to another, and night shares its knowledge with night, and this without speech or language; their voices are not heard. But their sound goes out to all the lands, their words to the ends of the earth.

Refrain:

Glory and praise to God whose word brings life.

In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun which comes out like a bridegroom from under the canopy, like an athlete eager to run the race. Its rising is at one end of the sky, it runs its course to the other, and there is nothing that is hidden from its heat.

Refrain:

Glory and praise to God whose word brings life.

God's law is perfect, refreshing the soul; God's instruction is sure, giving wisdom to the simple; God's precepts are right, rejoicing the heart; God's commandment is pure giving light to the eyes; God's fear is clean, enduring forever; God's judgements are true, every one of them righteous; more desirable than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, pure honey from the comb.

Refrain:

Glory and praise to God whose word brings life.

By them is your servant warned; for in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern unwitting sins? O cleanse me from my secret faults. Keep your servant also from presumptuous sins, lest they get the better of me. Then shall I be clean and innocent of great offence.

Refrain:

Glory and praise to God whose word brings life.

All Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O God, my strength and my redeemer.

Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:1-21

Prayer following Communion (in unison)

Loving God, Your presence is made real in the ordinary – bread and a cup. We are in Communion with You and the world. In what we do and are unable to do together, we trust that You are present. Nourish us, we pray. May our lives be nourishment for others in this community and around the world. Amen.

Hymn: Sent Forth By God’s Blessing VU 481

1 Sent forth by God's blessing, our true faith confessing, the people of God from this dwelling take leave. The supper is ended, O now be extended the fruits of this service in all who believe. The seed of Christ's teaching, receptive souls reaching, shall blossom in action for God and for all. God's grace did invite us, God's love shall unite us to work for the kingdom and answer its call. 2 With praise and thanksgiving to God ever living, the tasks of our everyday life we will face. Our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring, embracing God's children of each tribe and race. With your feast you feed us, with your light now lead us; unite us as one in this life that we share. Then may all the living with praise and thanksgiving give honour to Christ and the name that we bear.
