After School Tutoring

About 816 children of SCSP have received after-school tutoring & special coaching support in March, 2017.

More over 77 tutors have helped them to prepare their home tasks.

Family Support Activities

DCI’s Family Support Activities is active in SCSP project areas supporting 555 mothers, who have been di-vided into 46 small groups. Every week they meet to discuss their essential needs, facilitated by DCI officers. The attendance rate at these meetings during the month of March as 76%.

Mobile Library & Computer Training Center

In this month there are 24 boys and 72 girls have completed the short course on computer and internet learn-

ing. 672 children & youth got the opportunity to read books. In addition 80 youths received book reading op-

portunity at the mobile library.

Counseling to girls of Sun Child Home

DCI regularly arranges awareness session for the girls of Sun Child Home (for orphans). In these sessions, the Counselor and House Mothers guide to understand the girls of different topics related with the girls and manage the unfavorable situation. This month a team from The Nielsen Company (BD) Ltd. counseled the girls about i) How to protect themselves ii) Physical Gesture iii) Sanitation and hygiene measures. The Nielsen Company (BD) Ltd. is a multina-tional company working for the counseling of adolescent girls in Bangladesh. They have provided some books to the adolescent girls about protection of children, sanita-tion, health & hygiene etc.

Success Story

Monir Hosen (KSS-00082) has been getting support from DCI since 2007. DCI brought him under

the Sun Child Sponsorship Program (SCSP) when Monir was in class two. In spite of his poverty

Monir obtained good result in primary school final exam and got govt. scholarship. After that Monir

complete all grade successfully and got 4.65 point in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam.

Due to his good academic result and behavior, DCI appointed him in this program as a tutor. This

year he is attending the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam and hope to get good result. DCI

made this possible through necessary educational and family support.

On March 19, 2017 Chief Adviser of RSC Prof. M. A Raqib was passed away. DCI-RSC arranged a Dua Mahfil on behalf of His son Eng. Zafrul Hasan. He provided a lunch for the children of orphan-age. In this month Mrs. Khurshid Jahan Ahmed (Shelly) arranged a special meal and Dua Mahfil at Sun Child Home (for orphans) for the death anniversary of her husband late Ashraf Uddin Ahmed. Ms. Selina Imam (Arizona, USA) has gave a Khasi (goat) for the children in this month. On the same month Mrs. Shahin Samad also gave a sadka to the DCI’s orphanage. Ms. Bini from Dhaka provided delicious afternoon snacks for the girls.

In this month the children of Sun Child Home participated in a number of cultural programs. They have participated in an art competition and performed a dance program at their school for RTV’s program named ‘Tiffin Break’. They also took part in a dance program at their school for HSC Farewell program. On Women’s Day – March 8, 2017 our children participated in a Rally and performed a dance program at En-gineering Institute, Dhaka.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day– 2017, Distressed Children & Infants International (DCI) and Rights & Sight For Children (RSC) arranged a Free Health Camp and Family Planning Implant Camp on March 08,2017 at DCI Health Clinic, Kallyanpur Porabari Slum, Dhaka.

On that day Dr. Shamsul Karim, Deputy Director, Directorate of Family Planning treated a total number of 118 general patients, besides that he encouraged the women of reproductive age to practice family planning methods for their better health and better life. All the patients received treatment and medicines free of cost from DCI Health Clinic. Dr. Hosne Jahan, Medical officer of Maternal & Child Health-Family Planning (MCH-FP), Mirpur, Dhaka had inserted implants to a total number of 8 women of reproductive age from Family Plan-ning Clinic at DCI Health Clinic. At the evening, Directorate of Family Planning arranged a film show adjacent to the DCI Health Clinic through their Mobile unit on Maternal and Child Health for the dwellers of Kallyanpur Porabari Slum.

On March 22, 2017, Distressed Children & Infants International (DCI) and Rights & Sight For Children (RSC) observed World Water Day–2017. On that day a Free Health Camp was arranged at DCI Health Clinic, Kally-anpur Porabari Slum, Dhaka. A total number of 103 pediatric patients received treatment by Dr. Md. Al Amin Mridha, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Dhaka. All the pediatric patients received medicines free of cost from DCI Health Clinic.

Pushpo Rani Ghosh had been suffering from uterine prolapse for long time. She consulted with the doctor of

DCI Health Clinic. DCI Health Clinic communicated with Dr. Azizul Hoque (doctor of DCI’s Telemedicine)

about Pushpo Rani Ghosh's disease. Dr. Azizul Hoque referred her to Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam Arif, MBBS,

FCPC-Surgery, who is the Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at Anwer Khan Modern Medical

College Hospital, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. A successful operation of Pushpo Rani Ghosh was held under Prof. Dr.

Abdus Salam Arif on March 12, 2017. The cost of the operation was covered by Dr. Azizul Hoque and DCI

Health Clinic. Now Pushpo Rani is doing well and grateful to DCI Health Clinic.
