with the late Richard Dermer, who founded The Hideaway

in 1957 in Stillwater, OK, just off the Oklahoma State campus.

Richard believed in one simple idea: great food and happy

employees equals happy guests. We strive to stay true

to his idea every day.

Richard was actually the president of the National

Kitefliers Association and traveled the world flying

kites. In his travels he would collect unique kites

and hang them in the Hideaway

for all to enjoy.

At one time Hideaway had the largest fleet,

original Hideaway needed a little decorating. So one night she

came into the restaurant and created a collage by glueing

magazine pictures all over a wall. The wall became a hit with

the guests who loved to find their favorite images.

It’s a world-famous board game (didn’t you know?) developed by an

employee at the original Hideaway in the ‘70s. The goal?

Just get five pieces in a row before your opponent. Easy, right?
