Licensing of accommodation establishment

•All tourism businesses need to apply for a licenceissued by the Seychelles Licensing Authority

•Prior to issuing licence SLA must seek the views and recommendation of STB, Health, Fire, Environment, and other regulatory bodies

•Only upon recommendation of the above bodies is the licence issued.

Calculating Non Response of Hotel Returns.

We use past trends to estimates for non response of current figures on both Bed Occupancies and Room Occupancies.

Figures will be provisional as returns are sometimes sent late and from that we can update the figures

Another indicator that we use is the figures collected and compiled from the Immigration Office on Visitor arrivals classified by Visitor stay by accommodation and visitors stay by location. It is used as a guidance to monitor if we are not over estimating the figures.

Accommodation are classified into three categories:

Large Hotels:Consisting of hotels with 25 rooms or more.

Small hotels (Guesthouses):Consisting 24 rooms or less.

Self catering chalets:Consisting 24 rooms or less but where visitors buy and cook their

own food.

Calculating occupancy:All hotels are required to complete monthly returns and submit to the National Bureau of Statistics.

Occupancy for beds and rooms are calculated by the number of beds and rooms occupied divide by the number of beds and rooms available (total beds and rooms times the number of days in the corresponding month) and times by one hundred to arrived at the percentage rate. (note that the bed and room are not added together, it has to be done separately).
