The Story of
Self
The Story

The Story
of Us
➢ “A story communicates fear, hope, and
anxiety, and because we can feel it, we
get the moral not just as a concept, but
as a teaching of our hearts. That’s the
power of story.”
➢“Storytelling may be what most
distinguishes social movements from
interest groups.”
- Marshall Ganz, Kennedy School of
Government at Harvard University

Learning to Tell Our Story
➢As a story teller, it’s ok to make mistakes. I’ve made a few.
➢We tend to tell the story from our own perspective, but that may not be
important to your audience.
➢It is important to develop a personal connection to the mission of your
organization to your audience.

Learning to Tell Our Story
➢Your story doesn’t need to be perfect, but could be compelling to
someone else.
➢Story telling is also about inviting someone to participate, to envision their
participation and also to witness and be a part of your service.
➢You also have to be part of the story, and believe in yourself.
