During the Job Fair: Do not assume an employer does not have open positions in your field. Instead,

ask what positions they are hiring for. When greeting an employer representative, introduce yourself and look confident

by extending your hand for a firm handshake with direct eye contact and a smile. Express your interest by demonstrating knowledge of the organization through

the research that you did prior to the event. Relate your skills, interests, and experiences to the specific needs of the

employer. Listen and ask relevant questions about the organization and the position(s) they

have open. Take notes if needed. This is not the time to ask salary-related questions. Offer the employer representative a copy of your resume if you are interested in

any of their open positions. Ask the employer representative what the next step is and how to follow-up. Get appropriate contact information and ask for a business card if they have one. Be sure to thank the employer representative for their time, smile, and offer your

handshake before moving on to the next table. Conduct yourself professionally at all times. Remember that even when waiting in

line to speak to the employer representative, or walking to the next table, you are being watched.

After the Job fair: Send a thank you letter or e-mail message to the employer representative to reconfirm your interest in their organization and the open position. Within a week, follow-up with a telephone call if you have not heard from the employer.
