Dear Families Yesterday’s Sports Carnival was a great event for our community. Some highlights were;
• The excellent cooperation between and amongst students, staff and parents. We were all there
working together to support the students in trying their best. There was a very positive
atmosphere.
• The visiting US Marines who helped set up, worked all morning as timers and place getters and
stayed to pack up. Their contribution certainly made it easier for us and they were so nice too!
• The staff, most of who were on their feet all day organising and assisting with the events, without
them the day simply would not be possible.
• The organization by the Sports Day Committee which was led by Kimberley Cahill and her team
including, Liz Simon, Suzanne Mortimore, Dorothy Howell, Rebecca McCasker, Madeleine Van
Der Braak and Tony Balnaves. Great work.
• Congratulations to our House Captains who have lead their teams of over 100 students in the
last few weeks. They did a fantastic job.
• The final highlight was the 400m relay race where the Marines, parents, male students, female
students and staff competed against each other.
Please see the next 2 pages for more photos, results and thank yous.
A reminder that students’ semester reports will be sent home with students next Tuesday. I ask that
parents read these reports carefully. Woodroffe Primary clearly has a literacy and numeracy focus
and we want to work with our families to achieve the best possible results for the children’s future.
School attendance, reading, vocabulary development and counting and measuring are key areas
that families can continually help with to develop
children’s skills. Please read the report and see
where you need to emphasise your support. If you
have any queries after you have read the report
please contact the teacher next week so issues may
be addressed before the end of term. The teacher’s

Thank you to the parents and friends who so generously volunteered their time to help out at our Sports Carnival. Paulett and David Hawkes, David Jones, Dianne Stephenson, Vi Fern, Kushala Munusamy and Tanya McLoughlin, without your invaluable help on the day the carnival would not have been such a success.
A huge thank you also to the visiting US Marines whose help in setting up, timekeeping and packing up was invaluable. They enjoyed the day very much.
On behalf of all the year 6 students thanks also to parents Maria Sykes, Anna Beecham, Rene Prosser, Sigila Paleso’o and Christine Van Den Berg Hammer who gave up their time to cook and sell sausages during the day. $710.00 was raised which will go towards the cost of the Year 6 Graduation Dinner.
