This helps alleviate traffic congestion and parking issues at the front of the school. The cricket oval gate does not open until 7.45am so children arriving at the gate before then will not be supervised, therefore those children coming to school early need to wait at the front of the school. This week’s winners are Crewe in G2, Nicole in M3 and Rhiannon in B3. Dear Families This week I told school council I am really proud of how Woodroffe staff and students have remained focused this term. We have all maintained a high level of work and learning within a happy and supportive environment. I urge families to make an appointment for the parent/teacher interviews next week. At the meeting teachers will 'walk you through' your child's chronicle that they produced this term and compare it with their chronicle produced in Term 2. Year 3 and 5 students will note their NAPLAN results which have just arrived at the school. The purpose being to highlight to families your child's learning growth and to discuss what we all need to concentrate on for your child to receive the best results possible for their Semester 2 Report. If you are unable to attend, your child's portfolio and NAPLAN results will be sent home with students on Friday. I would like to thank all families who supported the Woolworths Learn and Earn scheme. We reached a phenomenal total of just over 64,000 points. TLT teams are currently ordering valuable Literacy and Numeracy resources to further support learning in the classroom which will make a significant difference. Thanks also to the families who supported the Spellathon, we raised $5312. I expect this money to go towards playground equipment. On Friday I received an email from Mr Barnes, Department of Education CE, informing me that Woodroffe Primary School is a finalist in the Smart School Awards for Excellence in Literacy and Numeracy Improvement. The winner will be announced in mid October. Needless to say I am ecstatic as this is public recognition of how hard our School Council, Woodroffe's Leadership Group, all staff and of course our students and families have worked together in achieving constant improved learning over the last few years. Our excellent results have not just been achieved by students obtaining a higher achievement level but also by improved attendance, our average is now 92% up from 90%. Working together is resulting in our great school becoming even better, thank you everyone. Wonders of Woodroffe (WOW) is next week and we all deserve the week of fun, adventure, challenges and sheer enjoyment. The school is holding an Open Day on Tuesday 25 th September from 8:00am – 12:00pm for all members of the community to experience some Woodroffe Wow. Thank you to Kerry Fallon, the chair of the WOW committee and the members Pat Moore, Melissa Scott, Rae Whiteley, Michael Birch, Ros Stewart, Rebecca McCasker, Ruth Caddy and Jodie Winston for organising WOW week which is always a highlight of the school year. Please be aware that due to WOW Week activities there will be no assembly next week. This week I am in Melbourne at the Australian and New Zealand Principals Conference but I have left Mrs Fallon capably in charge and well supported by the staff. The season is finished and the girls have all done exceptionally well and their skills improved throughout the season. It was great to see their enthusiasm, team spirit and encouragement towards each other. It was fantastic playing on the renovated Palmerston Netball Courts, and we would like to thank the Palmerston Netball Association for allowing the girls to train there. Thanks also to Woodroffe Primary for allowing us to use the school netball bibs. A big thank you to the Woodroffe Warriors parents for their support and commitment throughout the season, and an extra thank you to Kylie Ogden for helping on game nights and organising the end of season party at the Palmerston Waterpark where the girls were presented with their medallions.

Our Lost property box is still overflowing! If you are missing lunchboxes, jackets, hats or other items please look through the box outside the office to claim your lost treasure. Any items unclaimed at the end of term will be given to charity. Please ensure all property brought to school is clearly named.

We have reduced our backpacks from $32.00 to $18.00. They have the WPS logo and offer terrific back support. They will make a great Christmas gift for Preschoolers moving up to Transition next year.

NEWS

Old clothes and gumboots

As it is the year of the farmer we are building scarecrows during WOW Week. We still need lots more old clothing so all classes are able to dress their scarecrows. If you can help out please send them to the front office. We also need Gumboots for the throwing competition.

WOODROFFE'S got TALENT

We are still seeking organisations to participate in Woodroffe’s 'Showcase of Talent'. Each group would display their skills and talents on Wednesday 26th September. We know that many students are involved in a variety of activities outside of school such as dance, sporting, music groups and other clubs or organisations and this would be an excellent opportunity to promote these activities.

Last years' showcase was very popular with our students, and those who appeared are welcome to participate again.

To nominate for our 'Showcase', please contact Mrs Fallon on 89323788 or email [email protected]

The pavers made by the students in last year’s Mosaics Elective have recently been laid near the deck at Melaleuca. They have a TRIBES theme and are a lovely feature in the garden.
