Last Season Recap: The Bruins finished last season with a 15-4-2 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 conference mark. They also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history after winning the Unaffiliated Group Tournament title. Head coach Andy Nicolarsen was named the MCAC Coach of the Year for the third straight season.

Up Next: The Bruins will stay on the road next week when they travel to Daven-port, Iowa for the Saint Ambrose University Invitational. Bellevue will open the tournament against play SAU on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m. before playing versus Ashford University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Andy Nicolarsen | Head CoachAndy Nicolarsen enters his eighth season at the helm of the Bellevue University women’s soccer program in 2011. He finished his first seven years with a combined record of 94-41-8 (.685), including a 26-8-2 (.750) conference mark.

Nicolarsen was named the MCAC Coach of the Year for the third straight season in 2010, helping lead the Bruins to a 15-4-2 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 conference mark. The 2010 team also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history after winning the Unaffiliated Group Tournament title.

Nicolarsen began his coaching career as an assistant women’s soccer coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 2001-2003. At UNO, he assisted with practices, player selection and development, defense and goalkeeper training. A successful NCAA Division II program, UNO made back to back Final Four appearances in 2002 and 2003.

Nicolarsen is also the head coach of the 2007 and 2008 Nebraska State Cup champion 89/90 Gladiator Tango girls.

A four-year varsity letterman and three-year starter at NCAA Division I Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, Nicolarsen graduated in 1999. Hartwick reached the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Division I National Tournament during Nicolarsen’s freshman year in 1995 and earned top twenty national rankings his senior year. Nicolarsen received a degree in anthropology at Hartwick, earning honors in Lambda Alpha, the National Anthropological Society. After graduating from Hartwick, he went on to play professional USL DI soccer with the Hershey Wildcats in Hershey, Pennsylvania, from 1999 to 2000. While playing for Hershey the team finished the 1999 season as Atlantic coastal champions, and reached the quarterfinals in the playoffs.

Nicolarsen has a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also holds an NSCAA Advanced National coaching license and teaches as an adjunct faculty member within the University’s Health & Human Performance program.

He was born in Omaha but grew up in Prairie Village, Kan., where he graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School.

He and his wife, Kate reside in Omaha with their son, Max.

Amber Richardson | Assistant CoachAmber Richardson begins her fourth season on the Bruin women’s soccer staff as an assistant coach in 2011. Richardson began coaching in 2005 as the head coach for the Gladiator Hornets boys’ team. She currently coaches for the Omaha Futbol Club and holds her NSCAA National coaching license.

Richardson played for the University of Nebraska, a top 10 NCAA Division I program from 2002-03. While there, the team won the Big XII Tournament in 2002. That same year, she also received the Power Lifter of the Year award for the Nebraska women’s soccer program. In 2004 she transferred to the University of Nebraska at Omaha where she was a three-year starter. UNO made it to the Final Four in 2004 and 2005 and went on to win the NCAA Division II national championship in 2005. Richardson was a central figure on the national championship team and finished her career as a two time all-North Central Conference and all-Region selection.

Richardson graduated from UNO in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in family science with an emphasis in health and physical education, earning cum laude honors. In addition to her accolades on the field she also received NSCAA Scholar All-American honors in 2005 and 2006 and was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team in 2006.

Richardson grew up in LaVista, Neb. where she graduated from Papillion-LaVista High School as an all-state soccer player.

She currently resides in Omaha with her husband Matt, son Trey, and daughter Jayda.

Sebastian Narvaez | Assistant CoachSebastian Narvaez begins his first year as an assistant coach on the Bellevue University women’s soccer staff in 2011 after a four-year standout career as a goalkeeper for the Bruins.

A native of Cali, Colombia, Narvaez holds the school records for career saves (263), wins (44), shutouts (19) and ranks second with a 1.17 goals against average.

Last season, he was named a honorable mention NAIA All-American while leading Bellevue to a 13-6-1 overall record. He earned all-MCAC first team honors in 2010 and 2009 and was also named to the all-MCAC second team as a sophomore and freshman.

Narvaez also excelled in the classroom and was a three-time MCAC Scholar-Athlete. He will complete his bachelor’s degree in December.
