Women's Cell - Functions and Composition
Bhavya Women’s Cell
The College has established a Women Cell in the college campus for the women faculty,
staff and girl students, to enhance understanding of issues related to women and to make
the college campus a safe place for them. With an aim of creating awareness of their rights
and duties the cell organizes and participates in seminars, talks and also takes up women’s
issues and problems. It also provides a platform for women to share their experiences and
views regarding their status in the society and to suggest ways to improve and empower
themselves. Aiming at intellectual and social upliftment of the female students, the cell
stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness
programmes life skill training programmes, entrepreneur training and other welfare
activities.
Objectives – These are to serve the Women faculty and students of college.
To enhance the self-esteem and self-confidence of women students, faculty and staff in the
college. To promote intellectual and cultural activities for overall personality development
of student. To develop critical thinking ability of women students such that it enhances
decision-making ability. To enable women to make informed choices in areas like
education, employment and health especially reproductive health. To enhance their
participation on an equal footing in all areas.

Orange day celebrations were conducted from 25th November to 7th December to
exemplify the respect and love towards women. The programme also involved diversified
activities on these days to spread the awareness of women empowerment, their roles
and achievements. Students recited poems and sang songs in different languages in the
assembly to inspire all students.
On 20th– Abihsek introduced about the programme in the assembly.
On 21st – Circular and announcement about the whole schedule of the programme was
done in all classes by two volunteers.
Orange Day Rally on 22nd November 2017
BHAVYA , The Women's Cell of the college is observing ORANGE DAY , Which is observed
Worldwide to fight against the atrocities against women. The male students of the college
gave it a thunderous start by organising a Rally . The rally was flagged off by the principal,
Prof. Y Ashok.The boys participated in large numbers and raised slogans. The spirited
students started the rally on the premises and moved through the streets of Defence
colony around the campus. This gesture of the boys was proudly acknowledged and
applauded by the women students and staff. There was participation by 134 students and 6
Staff .A series of events have been lined up over the next few day.
Orange Day activity 23rd
Students had digital poster presentation competition. All male students from B.Com and
B.Sc streams actively participated. There were 18 students in the competition where each
poster was presented by two boys. The first and second prizes were won by Shubham and
Hussian of B.Com 1D and Sravan Kumar of MSCs and B.Datta Sainath of MECs
respectively.
Orange Day activity 24th
There was singing of songs by 2 students in the Assembly in sanskrit and telugu
languages on the aspect of women.
International day against Atrocities on women- Orange Day activity 25th
On the 25th of Nov which actually is earmarked for being observed as the International
day against Atrocities on women. The male students and male staff enthusiastically
contributed for a cause. The students and staff purchased the orange bands as mark of
their participation in the movement. There was participation by 200 boys, 20 male staff
and 20 volunteers including NSS students. The volunteers went around the campus and
encouraged the students to raise their voices against injustice. The Principal and the faculty
were joyous and also contributed to the cause. On the same the digital posters were
displayed to create more awareness among students who responded well.
Orange Day activity 27th - At Ramakrishna Vidyalaya
On 27th November as part of orange day celebrations, Bhavya the women’s cell has taken
initiative to motivate school children from class 8th to 12th. An awareness programme
about atrocities on women was conducted at Bhavan’s Sri Rama Krishna Vidhyalaya. The
programme started with an enthusiastic and captivating speech on women harassment
issues by Adnan and Shivam of B,Com 2h1 which gathered the attention of school
children. The school principal, and other faculty members appreciated the efforts of the
students. School students indicated their support for the cause of Orange day by
purchasing the orange ribbons in huge number. Both boys and girls purchased the orange
ribbons, 750 students purchased enthusiastically. There was participation by 10 college
volunteers including NSS students and 5 women cell members.
Orange Day activity 28th November 2017- At Junior college
On 28th Nov 2017 the students of BVC reached out to our sister institution Shri Aurobindo
Junior College to convey the Orange Day message . Mr. Adnan of B.Com II gave a strong
message on fighting against atrocities on women. He ignited the young minds and
encouraged them to join for the cause. The Principal, staff and students of Shri Aurobindo
participated in the program with great fervor and also contributed by purchasing the
Orange bands. A total of 250 students purchased ribbons as mark of their support for the
cause. Mrs. Ajitha , Ms.Ankita Nagra. Dr. Madhuri Srinivasan and Mrs.Manjula
accompanied the students in the endeavor. They were helped by 10 college volunteers
which included NSS students also.
Orange Day Rally 29th November 2017
On 29th the college students conducted a rally, where 200 students from various classes,
10 volunteers and 5 staff members joined the rally and made it successful. The rally was
flagged of by the principal Prof. Y. Ashok. It started from college campus to Vayupuri,
Bharani colony, Neredmet X roads and ended back in the college. Both girls and boys
energetically participated in the rally by shouting slogans.
On 30th November- Sanskrit sloka was recited by Sabha Anjum from B.Sc MPCS 1b.
Orange Day activity 1st December
There was flash mob by the college students at Vivek Bharati Stage on the theme
“WOMEN CENTRIC FORMS” .The programme was for 20 minutes in which 15 students both
boys and girls participated.
On 1st December -Hindi slokas were recited by Kumari Neelam and Manisha Pandey
of B.Sc life science 2nd year. A song on mother was sung by Sairam of B.Com 3h.
On 4th December -Telugu poems were recited by Laxmi Lavanya and Sahithi of B.Sc
2nd year.
On 5th December English song was sung by Chirag of BA 3rd year.
On 6th December –Three students recited a poem and sung songs in French.
Orange Day activity 7th December
There was a street plays at Science Quadrangle on themes like women protection, laws
pertaining to this aspect in India and domestic violence. There was participation by three
boys and 19 girls. The programme was well appreciated by both staff and students of the
college. Ms Ankita Nagra took the whole initiative for the programme and she was
supported by other women cell members.
Mehendi Mela on 6th July 2017
Bhavya the Women cell organized Mehendi Mela event in the college on 6th July 2017.
Mehendi application during telugu calendar month of Aashadam has traditional and also
scientific significance. Around 70 students from all the streams and more than 30 faculty
members participated in the event and applied beautiful and attractive Mehendi designs
and Tattoo's on their hands. The material used was both mehendi cones and paste of
mehendi leaf.
International Yoga Day Celebration, 2017 at Bhavan’s College
Bhavan’s Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri, joined the worldwide celebration of
International Yoga Day on June 21, 2017 at the Vivek Bharati Auditorium in the
college. It was a mega celebration, where all the students and teaching faculty of the
college participated.
The program started with the Bhavan’s Prayer and incantation of verses from the Rig Veda
. The students were enlightened about the benefits of Yoga. The whole college
reverberated with the soulful music and chanting of OM mantra. The students
enthusiastically participated and performed numerous Asanas. There was a parallel
running commentary on the benefits of those Asanas. Students from all streams
participated . There was active participation by 1500 students, 120 NCC students, 75 NSS
students and 100 staff members.
Yoga practice enables us to attain a holistic well being of mind, body and soul. There is a
need to discover a sense of blissful harmony of one’s own self with the outside world.
The Program was organised by the active initiative of Bhavya- the women’s cell, the NCC
and NSS units and supported by the Bhavan’s Centre for Excellence.
The program ended with a pledge undertaken by the students to make yoga an integral
part of their life.
Activities 2016-2017
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY - 3K Run:
Bhavya, the Women Cell in collaboration with NCC and NSS Unit of the College conducted
a 3K run on 8th March 2017 on the occasion of International Women’s Day for the
awareness of “ Towards the world of equals ”. More than 200 students participated in the
event and made the program successful.
Women's Cell Nutritious Food Stall:
Bhavya, the Women’s Cell presented a Nutritious Food Stall on 31st December 2016 to
acquaint everyone especially students with nutritious traditional foods, to create an
awareness about these in a world of junk foods. Both UG and PG students actively
participated and presented different kinds of food like sprouts, fruits with honey, fruit
juices with faluda, bajraladdu etc. There was a good response from both students and
faculty.
Bhavanotsav-2016: Bhavya, conducted two events on a common theme – Women
as role Models for this occasion.
1. Poster presentation on Women as Role model has been conducted on the 28th
December 2016 as a part of Bhavanostav-2016 activity from 11am to 12:00 noon in
room no. 105. There was active participation both from Bhavan’s and other colleges. The
total participation was 33 students and 4 teams were from other colleges. Few boys took
part in the event. Poster presentation on successful women like Kiran Majumdar, Mother
Teresa, Indira Gandhi, Jayalalitha etc., had enlightened the audience.
2. A Fancy dress competition was conducted on stage with a good number of participants .
Students presented themselves by dressing up as Rani Jhansi Bai, Medha Patkar, Sarojini
Naidu, Madame Curie and impressed the crowd.
Value Added Course Report
Bhavya, the Women's Cell organized a value added course on Quilling art for 5 days from
2nd December 2016 to 9th December.
A total of 10 students registered for the course and were trained by student instructors on
basic quilling shapes, jewellery, greeting cards, wall hangings, and micro quilling art. At the
end of the course the students exhibited their talents and received appreciations from
faculty members.
Women's Cell Nutritious Food Stall:
Bhavya, the Women’s Cell presented a Nutritious food Stall on 3rd December 2016 to
spread awareness among the present generation about the nutritious food and its values.
Many students and faculty utilized the opportunity and tasted various food items and were
inspired to try out the recipes. Food items like Bajra, wheat Laddoo, sprouts and various
natural fruit juices added attraction to the stall. The programme turned out to be a great
hit.
Orange Day Celebrations-2016
The women’s cell of the college conducted Orange Day campaign on 25th November, 2016.
Orange Day is a day to raise awareness and take action to end violence against women and
girls. As a part of this celebration various students spoke on equality, women
empowerment and the White ribbon movement along with various rights a woman has and
the laws made to protect them.
On 21st November, a student, Kevin, a student spoke on women empowerment.
With his speaking skills, he managed to captivate the audience throughout his entire
speech beautifully bringing out the current mindsets of people. On 22nd November, Bennel
P. Wilson spoke on the events leading to amendments in the Criminal Law as well as
various sections in the act that provides remedy to the women victimized under sexual
harassment and other forms of abuse they face. On 23rd November, Atreya spoke about
the White Ribbon Movement, various ways in which common folk can help make the society
a better and safer place for women to live in. On 24th November, Rahul made all the male
students take an oath to protect all women in need of help to their utmost capability. On
November 25th, most of the male students wore orange or white shirts to show their
support for the movement. Along with this all of the male students had pinned an orange
ribbon to their shirts to further support it. Later there was a poster presentation in which
around 15 students presented innovative posters which were displayed at the commerce
block. These posters and the initiative taken by the women’s cell was greatly appreciated
by the Principal and other faculty members.
Out Reach Programme 2016
Bhavya, the women’s cell of the college organized a two day outreach programme on
27th and 28th July, 2016 at Z.P girls High School, Malkajgiri.
The students were taught to prepare greeting cards, jewellery with hand paper and quilling
paper designs using different aids. All the students participated with good interest and
enthusiasm.
Volunteers of women’s cell taught the students of all the three sections of 9th standard.
The programme was designed to improve the artistic skill of students. Sreesudha and
SreePradha from B.Com 2nd year as volunteers guided the school students to create
attractive designs using quilling.
Skill Enhancement Programme.
Bhavya, the women’s cell of the college organized a skill enhancement program for 8th
and 9th class students on 6th August 2016 at Nimmagadda Anandamma Memorial Girls
school (The school in AP and Telengana which provides free education in english medium).
More than 50 students were trained in artificial flower making and quilling art. The students
enthusiastically participated and Manasa, and exhibited their talents. Jyothiverma of B.Sc
Final year and Sai Gayathri of Msc 1st year trained the Students.
Mehendi Day Celebrations:
Bhavya, the Women cell in an effort to implement holistic methodologies for an overall
development of students organized a western and Arabic mehendi day event in the college
on 29th & 30th July 2016. Mehendi is one such trade which helps one to prep up oneself
and to involve more in ones traditional culture.
On both the days around 175 students from all the streams and more than 50 faculty
members participated in the event and had their hands applied with beautiful and attractive
mehendi, tattoo's and calligraphy designs were also displayed.
SELF DEFENCE PROGRAMME – 2015
Women’s cell and NCC units (12/2coy 2(A)Bn NCC, Secunderabad group) jointly organized
a workshop for girl students on “Self Defence”.
This programme was organized as part of “Gender sensitization Programme” which was
held from 18th to 22nd August 2015 at Dr.T.S.Thakore auditorium BSRKV Sainikpuri.
Col Lokesh Saxena (Armd) SQDN NCC Secunderabad group was the resource person for
this workshop.
The following NCC Cadets volunteered as demonstrators:

On an approximate 60 students registered for the programme and 30-35 students attended
this workshop.
Dr. Naga Padma coordinator of the women’s cell initiated the programme.The other
members of the women’s cell and NCC unit supervised the session. As part of the
workshop, girl students were taught on the following aspects:
Objective of self defence
Self defence techniques
Common threats
Protection strategy from single and multiple attackers
Using body parts as weapons
How to identify the attackers
The programme concluded with an address to the students by Col Lokesh Saxena and was
presented with a memento as a token of appreciation.
Report on Liquid embroidery and fabric painting.
The Women’s Cell of the college organized a short term training course in Liquid
embroidery and fabric painting. The short course was organized from 11th to 15th August
2015 with the help of Pidilite industries. There was no course fee but an amount of Rs. 500
was collected for the material. It was conducted in room number 21 from 3.30-4.30 PM.
The course was coordinated by Dr.P.Naga Padma of Microbiology department. There were
more than 20 participants in this course. Students, faculty and college office staff actively
participated. Different techniques in painting like warli, fabric painting, tie and dye, shading
techniques, mirror work etc., were taught using different materials of pidilite industries.
Bhavanotsav-2015
Poster presentation on Women Entrepreneur was conducted on the 11th September
2015 as a part of Bhavanostav-2015 activities from 11:00am to 12:00 noon in room no.
108. There was active participation from both Bhavan’s and other colleges. The total
participation was 38 students and all were from Bhavan’s college. Few boys have taken
part in this event. Posters have enlightened the audience about successful Women
entrepreneurs like Kiran Majumdar etc.
Report on Warli Pot painting
Warli pot painting competition was conducted on the 11th of September 2015 as a part of
the Bhavanostav 2015 activities from 12:00 noon to 1 pm in the corridor of MBA Block.
The total participation was 9 students and all of them were from Bhavan’s college.
“Safety and Security of Women” Programme by SHE TEAMS 13-02-2015
The Cyberabad police organised a talk by Mrs. Rama Rajeshwari DCP on a very sensitive
topic “offence to women”. The major step taken by the Chief Minister, K.Chandrashekher
Rao for the safety of women in the form of SHE TEAMS was put forth, a very novel idea of
protecting women from eve teasing and crime against them. Mrs. Rama Rajeshwari DCP
was accompanied by the Neredmet police inspector Mr. Chandrababu and her team.
Hair Styling Competition and Handy Crafts Exhibition Yuvamahotsav-30th &31st
December 2014
As a part of Yuvamahotsav activities the Women’s Cell organized a Bridal Hair styling
competition and handicrafts exhibition. There was an active participation from students of
different courses. Different hairstyles were presented by the students in a colourful and
fashionable manner. In the handicrafts exhibition impressive paintings, varieties of
handmade crafts made out of news paper, used plastic materials, paintings on fabric were
displayed.
Poster Presentation on “Women Rights” 27-08-2014
Poster presentation on Women’s Right was conducted on day-1 of Bhavanostav-2014
There was active participation both from Bhavan’s and other colleges. The total
participation was 40 students. Students from Kasturba Gandhi College, Keshav Memorial
College and St. Ann’s College had participated in the event. Few boys took part too in this
event. Posters on Women’s depicted in the form of beautiful charts using clips from
newspaper etc., enlightened the audience.
Highlights:
A poster unveiled the fact that in a city like Vatican, women are still not allowed to
vote.
Constitutional provisions for protection of a girl child.
Created awareness on women rights by gangs like “Gulabi gang”.
Statistical data on condition of women in different countries.
Workshop on “Self Defence for Women” 21st – 26th July 2014
Women’s cell and NCC units (12/2coy 2(a)Bn NCC, Secunderabad group) jointly organized
a workshop for girl students on “self Defence”
The workshop was organized as part of “Gender sensitization Programme” .It was held
from 21st July 2014 to 26th July 2014 from 3pm to 5pm at Dr.T.S.Thakore auditorium
BSRKV Sainikpuri.

Value added course Mehendi 04-08-14
As a part of Women’s Cell activities, the college had organized a short term training course
in Mehendi for 10 days from 4th August 2014 to 18th August 2014 the course was taught
by the Ms. Sheela (alumni) who won many intercollegiate prizes in various Mehendi
competitions. A total of 18 students registered and attended the course. The students were
taught basic strokes, simple designs, various traditional designs and many Bridal Mehendi
designs, the classes were very interesting and interactive.
Artificial Flower Making
The Women’s Cell organized a short term training course in Artificial Flower Making. The
course was organized for 10 days from 4th to 18th August 2014. There was an active
participation from students. The artificial flower making course was coordinated by
Dr.P.Naga Padma of Microbiology department. There were 9 participants. Different
materials were used in flower making. The flowers were arranged in flower pots and
baskets. The prepared flowers were also arranged, exhibited and also put for sale by
students at the end of the course.
Training course Artificial Flower making for staff 02-04-14
As part of Women’s Cell activities, the college organized a short term training course in
Artificial Flower Making. The course was organized for 4 days from 2nd to 7th April 2014.
There was active participation from staff. The artificial flower making course was
coordinated by Dr.P.Naga Padma of Microbiology department. There were 11 staff
members from the college. Different materials were used in flower making. The flowers
were arranged in flower pots and baskets.
Guest Lecture by Dr. Ms Mahtab S. Bamji
Women’s Cell organized a Guest lecture on 15th March 2014 Title : “ While economists
debate, can scientists show the way to nutrition security for India” by Dr.Ms
Mahtab S.Bamji, INSA Honorary Scientist.
Handicrafts Exhibition – Yuvamahotsav 2013
As part of Women’s Cell activities, the college had organized a handicrafts exhibition at
Bhavanotsav 2013 in the month of December on 30 th and 31st. there was an active
participation from students of different courses and research scholars. Impressive
paintings, varieties of handmade crafts made out of news paper, used plastic materials,
embroidery on sarees, paintings on fabrics were displayed. The handicrafts exhibition was
coordinated by the Women’s cell coordinator Dr.P.Naga Padma.

Artificial Flower Making and Mehendi
As part of Women’s Cell activities the college organized a short term training course in
Mehendi and Artificial Flower Making. The course was organized for 4 days from 4th to 8th
February. There was active participation from both students and staff. The artificial flower
making course was coordinated by Dr.P.Naga Padma of Microbiology department. There
were 13 participants in this course, which included school and college students and also
college office staff. Mehendi course was coordinated by an M.Sc microbiology final year
student Masooma Begum. A total number of 10 students both from school and college
enrolled for this.
Guest Lecture by Dr.Srinivas Chakravarthy.
Women’s Cell organized a Guest lecture on 4th February 2011
Title : “ Breast cancer awareness” by Dr. .Srinivas Chakravarthy, MD,DM Oncology
from Apollo Hospital. All the girl students and women staff attended the lecture.
