ABOUT THE WOMEN’S LIFESTYLE EXPO

The Women’s Lifestyle Expo began when a group of women had a vision of creating an event that

brought together women, businesses and non-profit organizations of the Sunshine Coast. The

Women’s Lifestyle Expo’s mission is to facilitate an environment where women of all ages, cultures,

and backgrounds can connect, gain knowledge and become empowered.

The Women’s Lifestyle Expo is an opportunity for:

Showcasing and supporting existing community services on the Sunshine Coast

and surrounding areas;

Exposure of and growth of small and large businesses;

Building relationships and connecting businesses, community services and the people of

South-East Queensland;

Women to attend free workshops, facilitating empowerment through knowledge and support;

Women to be inspired and encouraged in their diverse roles.

The first event was held over one day in September 2009 with 40 exhibitors, 12 workshops, and 400

attendees. Since then the Women’s Lifestyle Expo has grown to a major 2 day event with over 8000

attendees, 100 trade and non-profit exhibitors, and 20+ workshops presented by acclaimed speakers.

In the past 12 months a full website has been developed and ancillary programs (called Inspire) have

commenced — including a Mentoring Program, a community Family Connect initiative and Community

Connect activities.

The Women’s Lifestyle Expo has become one of the key events for women in South-East Queensland

each year. It is a free event for all attendees and offers a wide range of exhibits and workshops, a

pamper room, food and drink services, and a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all who

attend.

2012 EXPO OVERVIEW

2012 was a year of growth and expansion culminating

in an extremely successful and enjoyable event, and the

launch of new programs.

Approximately 8000 people attended the Women’s

Lifestyle Expo at the Lake Kawana Community Centre

over the 14th and 15th September 2012. The event

included:

Commercial exhibitors covering a broad range of

industries - health, travel, finance, beauty, personal

development, jewellery, home products,

photography, gifts and many more.

Non-profit exhibitors - such as Breast Screen, Red

Hats, Integrated Youth and Family Services,

QLD Bowel Cancer Screening, Red Cross, and

Volunteering Sunshine Coast.

Over 20 one-hour workshops covering topic

areas such as finance, personal growth and life

skills, personal image, health, professional skills,

and family and relationships. The workshops

were extremely well attended.

A Pamper Room - fully booked throughout the

two days. Attendees enjoyed massage, manicure,

and pedicure treatments.

Kitchen/catering, and coffee services in the

courtyard added to the experience for attendees

by allowing a relaxed, casual environment to

enjoy lunch or have a break and a snack.

THE EXPO EXPERIENCE

The Women’s Lifestyle Expo attracts attendees from throughout Queensland. In 2012 groups of women

from Bundaberg, Ipswich, Toowoomba and Brisbane organised visits to the Sunshine Coast to be able

to attend the Expo.

The Women’s Lifestyle Expo supports many aspects of the SEQ community. By being a part of the

Expo, all who are involved benefit. Our exhibitors find that it is a great opportunity to develop their

business and increase exposure throughout the region.

Think Money said the following about their Expo experience:

“I just wanted to write to tell you how beneficial the .... Women’s Lifestyle Expo has been to our business and

thank you for your invitation to be involved in the upcoming event. Last year’s expo proved to be of awesome

benefit to my business, in fact our testing and measuring has shown it to be one of the most successful marketing

activity of the year, with results 150-200% greater than other trade-show ventures we participated in. Not only did

the expo generate a large quantity of leads, I was really impressed by the quality of leads…

The expo is a truly unique event for Women on the Sunshine Coast and has proven to be an anticipated event on

the calendar for women from all walks of life. Everyone who participated in last years event, both stall holders &

the public seemed genuinely excited and happy to be a part of it. I believe this is what helped to produce such

high quality leads for our business, and on a personal note, quality networking relationships with other women

operating businesses on the coast.”

Other businesses have also reported an increase in business in the months following the Expo. For

example, “Joybells Card & Gift Store exhibited at the Women’s Lifestyle Expo in 2011, 2012 and is booked in for

2013. We are a boutique card & gift shop with a store in Caloundra and an online business. As a business we

find the greatest advantage of the Women’s Lifestyle Expo is the opportunity to market our products, our brand

and our business to over 5,000 women. Every year we have bought gift bags worth $40 - $100, we find this is

great PR, as we get the time to talk to people and give them something that represents who we are, where we

are, (Caloundra & our online shop), what we are about, and the extent of product ranges and services that we

offer.” Joybells has reported that they have had new customers in their shop for months after the event

say they them at the Expo and came to see the shop.

THE EXPO EXPERIENCE

INSPIRE PROGRAMS

In 2012, the Women’s Lifestyle Expo launched new ancillary programs under the banner “Inspire”. The

purpose of Inspire is to extend the vision and mission of the Expo beyond a 2 day event. These

programs include:

1. MENTORING PROGRAM

The Inspire Mentoring Program is for women of all ages, backgrounds, professions and cultures.

The aims of the program are to:

Encourage and inspire

Assist in the development of women’s potential

Facilitate growth and improvement in women’s lives.

The program is underway, with some mentor partnerships completed and others in progress.

Participants have signed up for the program either through Expo or through our website. Those who

have been mentored to date have reported significant benefit.

“I signed up for three months of mentoring when I was at the Women’s Lifestyle Expo. I was assigned the best

mentor I could have asked for. Caroline is a very successful business woman and juggles her professional life with

a full family life. Together we sifted through a lot of miscellaneous clutter to find my true goals and passion. We

clarified the direction I want to take in both my professional life as well as my personal life.

I knew I wanted to achieve more but didn’t know how to get there. I have made a list of actions and have to be

accountable to Caroline who checks to see if I have achieved my tasks when we meet each month. Thank you for

this opportunity.” Kara

2. COMMUNITY CONNECT

As an extension of the Sunshine Coast Women’s Lifestyle Expo we aim to network and support women

in the community. Community Connect supports various projects in the Community including Wishlist

and women’s refuges on the Sunshine Coast. In 2012 the Women’s Lifestyle Expo provided a team to

distribute and collect donation tins for the Give Me 5 For Kids fundraising program.
