GENERAL MEETING

Staying Fit and Eating Right!
Our speaker for the February General meeting is Tsedal Ashby,
who is currently the Nutritional Team Lead, a Nutrition Coach, a
T.E.A.M. Coach, and a Pilates instructor at Life Time Athletic in
Reston. She has more than three years’ experience in the nutrition
field. She is also currently obtaining her Masters of Science in
Exercise Science, with an emphasis in Fitness and Wellness, from
California University Pennsylvania. She has earned a Bachelor of
Science in Biology from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a Bachelor of Science in
Nutrition and Foods Sciences from the University of the District of Columbia. At the meeting
she will discuss which foods are most important to women’s health. She will also discuss why
being active through all stages of life will keep you happy and healthy.
March Preview: Bea Morse, producer, set designer, and set decorator for numerous Reston Community Players productions. will be our speaker, giving us a backstage peek at what it takes to put on a show!

Inclement weather policy General Meetings
General Meetings will be canceled if the Fairfax County Public Schools are closed or
opening two hours late. However, meetings will take place as scheduled if the schools are
opening one hour late.

We will be returning to our regular second Friday of the month date for our Art Fun
outing on Feb 13th to see the National Museum of Women in the Arts exhibition,
Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea. The exhibition explores the concept of
womanhood represented by the Virgin Mary, as well as the social and sacred
functions her image has served through time. It brings together more than 60
Renaissance and Baroque-era masterworks from the Vatican museums, Uffizi
Gallery, and other museums, churches, and private collections in Europe and the
United States. Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea features works made by both
female and male artists: Sofonisba Anguissola, Artemisia Gentileschi, and
Elisabetta Sirani alongside Fra Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Giovanni
Battista Tiepolo, and others.

Hearts is a challenging card game which is lots of fun to play. Hearts will be
played on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. If
you are interested in learning a new card game or are an experienced Hearts

played with numbered tiles. Due to space limitations, we are able to

Luncheon Delight meets once a month for lunch, usually in a member’s home for a potluck lunch. In the months of January, February, and March, however, we will gather in a restaurant due to the possibility of inclement weather causing last minute cancellations. On February 9th Luncheon Delight will meet at Europa Restaurant, 7090 Station Street, Herndon, VA. You may remember Europa at its previous location in Tall Oaks Shopping Center, Reston. The varied menu features Italian, French, and Spanish cuisine, and promises to be a warm and welcome respite of good food, fun, and friendship for a winter day.

bring. A week before the event, she will get back to you with numbers. Casual Dining is a group of singles and couples who regularly meet at 6:00 PM on the 2nd Saturday of the month. The hostess provides a main course of her choice for 8 to 16 people (hostess specifies number). Each guest household brings a menu item to share: salad, appetizer, vegetable, dessert, bread, and other side dishes. It's BYOB, and each person contributes $5/meal to defray costs to the hostess. If numbers require it and we have volunteers to hostess, we will open a second host-home for a given dinner date. permanent collection of over 7,500 pieces ranging from the fine and decorative arts to miniature houses and furniture, as well as artifacts of the Shenandoah Valley. A special exhibit of ‘Hubcap Art’ will be on display. We’ll have lunch at Violino Restaurante Italiano in the lovely pedestrian area of Old Town Winchester, where after lunch we can stroll and visit the various shops! There are a couple of workshops in the plans for the spring. Scarf tying
is coming back. Flower arranging and table “scaping” will also be on the
calendar. Thanks to Susan Ragland and Kathy Severin for sharing their
talents with us!
At the needlecraft group meeting, there are members who can help a
new crochet or knitter. Please contact Ann Herlich, Needlecraft Chair,
for more information if you want help with a project.
Nancy Huber continues to help canasta players refresh their memory of the game and teach members
who want to learn.
