Background United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) recognizes the importance of women’s participation in peacekeeping operations, while Resolution 2242 (2015) calls for the doubling of the number of uniformed women personnel by 2020. Building on the Secretary-General’s System-Wide Strategy on Gender Parity, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations has developed a Uniformed Personnel Gender Parity Strategy with clear targets for UN Police. The Police Division is implementing a gender action plan to achieve these targets. Measures to increase women's participation includes specialized skills training on language, driving and firearms proficiency required for deployment as Individual Police Officers. In addition, a Female Senior Police Officer Command Development Course has been initiated to promote more women in leadership levels.
