• To mobilise more employers to offer placements to Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus trainees

1. Erasmus and Leonardo Trainees – A European Success Story

• Some statistics:

• First 3 years, around 85,000 students benefited from an Erasmus traineeship abroad.

• 2009/10: out of 213,266 Erasmus students, 35,561 went on traineeships (increase of more than 17%)

• 2010/11: the estimated number of traineeships is around 40,000

• Each year from 2007-2011, Leonardo da Vinci provided grants for some 65,000 people to travel to another country to train or work

• Between 2007 – 2011:• 125,000 Erasmus trainees – 100% increase in the

first 4 years since its creation• 320,000 Leonardo da Vinci trainees – continual

increase of the interest since its creation in 1995

2. Strong policy support to increase the quality traineeships

Youth Opportunities Initiative (December 2011): • 30% increase in the Leonardo and Erasmus traineeships for

vocational and higher education students• At least 50,000 Erasmus and 80,000 Leonardo trainees in

2012

Quality traineeships – relevant measure included in the Job-rich Recovery Package
