Welcome Hereford Breeders,

I can’t recall my Grandpa ever lying to me and as each day goes by, I realize he was again tellingme the truth when he told me to spend my time wisely; as the older I get the faster the days go by.

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the time for our second Internet heifer sale. When I thinkhow the past year has flown by I am more confident an Internet Sale format is right for the times. While I am not the best manager of time myself, I have been blessed with a wife that is wellorganized in all facets of life and business. What a contrast Nancy and I can be at times! Even withNancy’s help it can be challenging juggling my schedule so I can get off the farm to go to sales. Iwould imagine many breeders are in the same position as myself when it comes to finding time toget away.

It wasn’t easy embracing some of this new technology, but I have learned it does make my timemore manageable. With today’s technological advances it is very feasible to portray our saleanimals in a more informative manner for all to see. The Internet catalogue provides easy accessto loads of information, through pictures and video enabling you to make a better choice whenselecting an animal to fit your needs. You are as near to a sale as a phone, email, or text message. You can continue taking care of the priorities at home and still get the answers to your questionsregarding a buying opportunity.

Please keep in mind you are still invited and encouraged to stop by to look at the heifers. Nancyand I will be happy to take time to enjoy your visit and show you this special group. If you can’tstop by I hope you will be in contact through one of these many avenues now available to us all.

As for the sale cattle, I am confident you will find a heifer to meet your demands whether lookingfor a cow prospect or show heifer. Junior breeders, remember the 2011 Bonanza Show is inSaskatoon. We would be happy to discuss arrangements with you regarding development of yourWLB heifer purchase for this major event.

We are also offering a few prospect steer calves this year, all sired by bulls from either our herdbull lineup or our AI tank. If you are in the hunt for a good steer to show be sure to look at the WLBoffering. They are in the sale because we feel they will feed out and compete.

We will again offer a $100 show incentive to our junior buyers. This rebate offer isalso be available for the steers. More information can be found on the Terms andConditions page.

We invite you to have a look at them all then give us a call. We look forward totalking with you.

US buyer information:• Exchange rate: Will be posted with sale order on November 15, 2010.Delivery to U.S. buyers:We welcome your participation at our second Internet Heifer Sale. We hope you find a WLB heifer that catches yourinterest. Listed below is important information for our U.S. buyers. We ask you to read and familiarize yourself with thisinformation. Feel free to call us if you have any questions regarding the heifers or this information.1. We have exported a number of cattle to the US in the last few years and have become familiar with thearrangements necessary to cross the border. If a U.S. buyer wishes for WLB to arrange shipping we will do so to the best ofour ability. Part of arranging US shipments is dealing with specific dates and times that cattle have to meet US trucks.Taking advantage of these opportunities can help keep your shipping cost within reason. If these opportunities are missedthen this means individual animals may have to bear the entire cost of being shipped to their U.S. destination. In otherwords your shipping cost will go up. Prompt payment insures your heifer is available to take advantage of group shippingopportunities when they arise.2. Since 9/11 things have changed at the border. More paper work, homeland security, rising broker cost, and the listgoes on. We are happy to assist with the paperwork and getting your purchases across the border. In lieu of U.S. Customsand brokerage charges: US buyers will be charged $250 for each animal purchased in addition to the purchase price, whichwill go toward the export cost. WLB will then cover all additional cost including (veterinary charges) above this amountincluding trucking cost to the U.S. port of entry at Dunseith, N.D. This charge is based upon the assumption that all U.S.bound heifers will be exportable across the border in one shipment. Any U.S. heifers remaining at WLB due to late paymentwill then be charged for all export cost and additional examinations by the veterinarian above the $250 already charged .3. All trucking from the US port of entry to the buyer’s final destination will be at the expense of the buyer.4. Please provide to us the following information, which is needed to satisfy the U.S. customs office and brokers. Fullname, complete address, phone numbers, and Social security number

AUCTION GUIDELINES

Welcome to the WLB Internet Heifer Auction. We have tried to create an easy to understand online auction process. Please read the following instructions and if you have any trouble or questions, be sure to give us a call at 204 763 4697or email: [email protected]

WLB INTERNET AUCTION DATES AND TIMESThe auction has been set to run from 9:00 a.m. CST on Thursday, November 11th with the Internet gavel coming downon the first lot at 7:00 p.m. CST Monday, November 15. We will then proceed to sell one heifer using the 30-secondbidding clock until all heifers are sold. A sale order will be posted 9:00 a.m. Monday morning. If you don’t have computeraccess, phone in bids will be accepted at the numbers listed on the terms and conditions page. Interested buyers shouldallow up to two days before receiving bidder authorization.

HOW TO PARTICIPATEIn order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. To do this go tothe LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select WLB Livestock Online Auction. After logging in the buyerregistration form should pop up automatically. If it doesn’t there is a link you can select that says, “register for a buyernumber”. This form requires you to fill out your banks name, city, state, phone number and a contact. You may register tobid after bidding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous.

Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that isunique to your user ID. There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will bedisplayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the videoarea. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out”.No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. Each time you login, the auctionscreen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity toonly you. Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you arein or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applicable.

WHAT IS A PROXY BID?With a proxy bid you can enter your maximum bid and then sit back and watch. When you enter a proxy bid amount theLiveAuctions system automatically bids on your behalf up to your maximum bid. If the lot closes out for less than yourmaximum, that’s all you’ll have to pay. This means that you don’t have to keep coming back to re-bid every time anotherbid is placed. This makes it more convenient and less time consuming. It can also greatly assists those breeders that can’tbe near a computer or are busy with other duties at the time of the final bidding. It can also be a wise tool to use duringthe final close out bidding.

Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller. Even though you can see this amount onyour screen no one else can. The LiveAuctions system compares your bid to those of the other registered bidders and thesystem automatically places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bidposition. The system will bid only up to your maximum amount as necessary to maintain you as the high bidder. If anotherbidder has a higher maximum, you’ll be outbid and the system will tell you that “YOU’RE OUT”. But, if no other bidder hasa higher maximum you win the final bid.

The final close out bidding process – Last year there was some confusion on the first lot which ended up sellingwithout any final bids being submitted. We received a few calls after the sale from breeders who were interested inbidding on this heifer but failed to watch the 30 second clock and let the bidding time expire. When the bidding starts Thebidding clock will run for 30 seconds or until there is a bid at which time the clock will rewind to 30 secondsagain. For example: if the bidding clock gets down to 1 second remaining then a higher bid is submitted, the clock willthen restart at 30 seconds. This rewind process will continue with each bid received until 30 seconds elapses without abid. Then the lot will be considered sold. So if you are interested in a particular heifer them be sure to submit your bidwhile there is still time on the clock. This is where using the proxy bid can come in handy insuring you do not miss a bid!

Last year’s National Hereford Show held at the Canadian WesternAgribition was a very memorable one for us. The dam of Just Lovely, WLB7M Fran 82S, a three year old WLB Fresh 7M daughter won the CanadianNational Champion Polled Hereford Female banner. Her bull calf WLBSamsonite 69T 84W(Just Lovely’s full brother) was named the ReserveSenior Bull Calf Champion. In addition to her National Championship Franwas chosen as a RBC Supreme Top Ten finalist. As a breeder it gave Nancyand myself a great sense of pride to be able to represent the Hereford breedin such a select group at such a prestigious event.

Nancy and I feel this year’s group of heifers has one of the strongest topends we have ever had. However having said that we still feel Just Lovelyis a standout within this standout group. When you consider where her damand full brother have walked before her, you know Just Lovely did not justhappened to come along. How many heifers will you come across this fallthat are out of a National Champion Female, sired by a Reserve NationalChampion Bull, and a full sibling to a division winner, all of which wontheir titles at the same National show.

When you see Just Lovely on the video you will find her to be sweetfronted and strong in her joints. She possesses exceptional depth, substance, and broodiness while portraying a demanding “look at me”presentation. Watch her move! She’s very smooth and consistent in herstride.

At the risk of being called show ring junkies we will again enter Fran in the2010 Agribition Canadian National Hereford Show. When we see her alongside Just Lovely we can’t resist the temptation to see them both in theshowring side by side, among some of the top females in North America. We think when you see them together you will agree with our decision! Wewould like to reserve the right to a future flush, at the buyer’s convenience.

Like many breeders in North America, Nancy and I were in attendanceat the 1,000 head Remitall dispersal. It was a lot of cattle to lookthrough and I compliment the Latimers for how well they had thempenned and organized. We were very pleased to come home with onefrom our short list among the many cows that sold. Juno 204S is amoderate framed perfect uddered performance power cow. Her numbersshow her way above breed average for yearling performance and in realtime terms she is definitely above breed average on milk ethics. HerShapley daughter is one we would really like to put back in ourprogram. She shows how well WLB genetics will work when used inother programs big or small. If you are a junior breeder looking for acompetitive show heifer that could also be a strong start to your youngprogram, be sure to grab this attractive well-bred heifer. 15X is bred tobe a top end producer and displays herself like a first class show heifer. If you are an established breeder looking for an exceptionally strongpedigree to compliment your program, you won’t find one any stouterthan this Shapley daughter, out of a female that is double bred Catalina

We were very fortunate to be able to walk WLB 7M Square 85R for a couple of seasons.Square is a WLB Fresh 7M son that sold to our good friends and customers Don and DallasKruger. Square is a maternal brother to the dam of our Agribition Champion Bull, WLB Eli10H 83T. Square progeny are moderate framed, square hipped, thick stifled, and roundribbed. Some breeders may want to make this heifer a little bigger, but keep in mind she isonly an April calf. With the depth and volume she has we are pretty sure you won’t want tochange much about the way she is made and definitely not the way she is bred. Take a lookat the bottom of her pedigree and you will find her dam is an ET daughter sired by 29F outof the dam of WLB Fresh 7M. The first calf out of 702T was our winning bull calf in lastyear’s Red Coat Classic Show. This fancy April born Square daughter is her second. Wethink this heifer is pretty neat. She possesses loads of natural thickness on a square frameand a wide base. Structurally you won’t find much of a hole in her build. Be sure to studyher video, she will grow on you! I have talked highly on many of the Shapleys in this event and this one shouldn’t be shortchanged on the compliments either. She’s bred as well as we can breed em and has as muchperformance for age as any heifer in the sale. For all her extra length she still shows lots ofdepth and middle. This Heat daughter is a growthy heifer out of a stout, round ribbed Mutumbo daughter. She goes back to the Nickie 10D cowfamily, which was one of the stronger, more influential Shell River cow families we have worked with. One of my favorites in lastyears Internet event was a Holly’s maternal sister sired by Agribition Champion, WLB Eli 10H 83T. She sold to Phil & LaurieJones and family of Redwing Farms, Cameron, ON.

This straight-bred Hereford has a big hip and a good rib. If you are looking fora competitive steer that will weigh up there and give the crossbreds a run fortheir money you will want to take a run at this guy.

Here’s a younger steer that’s really nice butted. He’s naturally up headed andpresents himself well. We think this Shapley son will stand some stiffcompetition.

Steer # 355 - Hereford/Simmental

Sire: HF 37R Transwest 55T

Take note of his age. He will have enough growth in him to be ready nextsummer. Keep the feed to him and you should be very pleased with how hebrings it all together. Very nice butted with a nice side. Both his parents werepurebred individuals in their respective breeds.
