Service information
G WARNING
If you do not have the prescribed service/maintenance work or any required repairscarried out, this can result inmalfunctionsor system failures. There is a risk of anaccident.
Always have the prescribed service/main-tenance work as well as any requiredrepairs carried out at a qualified specialistworkshop.
Always observe the service message in theinstrument cluster display. Have the speci-fied service carried out within the remainingdistance or the remaining time period.You can find information about the servicedisplay in the Operator's Manual.The qualified specialistworkshop carries outthe service due at fixed intervals. This occurseither after a specified number of miles hasbeen driven or after a certain period of time,depending on which is reached first.
RThe first Service A is due after 12months atthe latest. Service A is then due every 24months at the latest.RThe first Service B is due after 24months atthe latest. Service B is then due every 24months at the latest.
Additional service work is considereddepending on time and distance. Additionalwork includes servicework carried out due totechnical requirements, in cases of wear orwork carried out on any optional equipmentwhich might require service. This work iscarried out and invoiced separately.Depending on how the vehicle is used, theservice display can show the next servicedue date earlier than is indicated in this Ser-vice Booklet.
i You can obtain current information atany time concerning the service of yourvehicle from a qualified specialist work-shop, for example, a smart Center. This can,for example, be an overviewof serviceworkor possible additional work.

Even a smart needs maintenance and care.This is why our service employees inspectyour vehicle at regular intervals and put itthrough its paces. You can therefore be cer-tain that even aftermany thousands ofmiles,your smart will still be running as safely andreliably as it did on the first day.Youmay select the optional customer servicepackage as a supplement to the basic service.This encompasses all the simple serviceworkthat you could carry out yourself.
i Please note any maintenance work notperformed or not performed at the speci-fied interval which results in the failure ofthe warranted component(s) or system(s)in question may not be covered by thesmart New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
We strongly recommend that you have yourvehicle serviced by a smart Center which isfully equipped to provide this service.
Special service requirements
Service andmaintenanceworkwill need to beperformed more often or in addition if thevehicle is operatedunder arduous conditionsor increased loads.Special service requirements may be neces-sary, for example, for certain componentsafter a breaking-in period.
i You can obtain up-to-date informationconcerning the particular service require-ments and service intervals of your vehicleat any time from a qualified specialistworkshop. smart recommends that you usean authorized smart Center for this pur-pose.

Regular checks
Check the following items regularly, e.g.weekly or before any long journey:
RCoolant level: please refer to the Operator’sManual for the correct procedure to checkthe coolant level.RBrake fluid level: if brake fluid has to beadded, see an authorized smart Center todetermine the cause, e.g. leaks or wornbrake pads.RWindshield washing system: add washerfluid mixed with Mercedes-Benz wind-shield washer solvent/concentrate, testfunction and check wiper blades.RLighting systemRTire conditionandpressures: check at leastmonthly. Please refer to section "Tires andwheels" in the Operator's Manual forguidelines and correct procedures to checktire condition and pressures.
