Welcome to XWeb Director

Introduction HTML is an ideal file format for distributing documents. With the recent advances in technology, almost any document, from a spreadsheet to a graphic, can be stored in HTML. With all these files being generated, it is clear that an application is required to organize these so that they are easily accessible. Welcome to XWeb Director, an innovative application that automatically organizes HTML web pages in one or more folders so that they are easily accessible from a home page. No longer do you need to make individual connections to many single files in different locations on the server. XWeb Director organizes them for fast and intuitive browser access. From the generated home page you can see any HTML files in the folders that contain HTML files.

Example As an example, suppose an HTML based report is produced on a daily basis. Each day, a new HTML file is created, stored in a monthly folder, which in turn is contained in a yearly folder. All yearly folders are contained in a folder named “reports”. Thus the report files generated in August of 2002 reside in folder “reports\2002\August”. On August 8 of 2002, the folder would look like:

Using XWeb Director, an XWeb directory is created with a home page. Using a standard browser, such as Internet Explorer the home page (non framed) would look like:

As you can see, this looks very similar to the folders on your server, with the main difference that it is in HTML, with the content in “links” to the subfolders. From the home page, select “2002” to get…

Now select “August” to view the published reports in that month…..

Using XWeb Director

Overview XWeb Director builds an XWeb directory for you. An XWeb directory is a collection of web pages reflecting a specific part of your file system, originating at a start folder, and including sub folders. Each page of the XWeb directory represents a single sub folder of the file system. The appearance of each page of the XWeb directory is based on a style template. Multiple XWeb directories can be created, representing different parts of the file system. Each XWeb directory requires a minimal, one time configuration. The configuration is performed in the XWeb Director Designer and stored in a configuration file (XWD file). The configuration file contains information about:

• The start folder • Inclusion of sub folders • Framed versus non framed lay out • The Style template used to define the XWeb directory pages • How the web page content is sorted • Web browser mode

A new XWeb directory is generated when the XWD configuration file is processed by program XWebDirector.exe. This program can be executed from various places:

• A Scheduler for event based or time based generation. • The Windows Scheduler for time based automated generation • A script in an HMI system • The Command Line (Start/Run or Command prompt) • Any 3rd party VB(A) or C/C++ program. • XWeb Director Designer to test the configuration.

File Locations

Files Required to Generate an XWeb Directory In order to generate an XWeb Directory you need a Style template, which is an HTML file, and the XWD configuration file, created by the XWeb Director Designer. These files must be stored in the location given by the Tools/Options menu option.

XWeb Directory Files The XWeb directory physically consists of a home page (HTML file) and a sub folder, which contains all the HTML sub pages. The sub folder is named after the home page, but has the appendix “_files”, e.g., “index_files”. If you use pictures or images in your style template, you will also find a second folder, named “Images”. The XWeb directory files are normally stored in the start folder of the file system that the XWeb directory reflects. The advantage of storing the XWeb directory pages in the start folder is that you can move the whole file folder branch (including sub folders) to another location, i.e., a new drive, or even to another computer (e.g., Web Server), and the XWeb directory still works as is. However, you can store the XWeb directory web pages in a different location, as long as it is on the same drive as the start folder, but on a higher level. This configuration will still provide portability. You can move the whole folder branch starting at the folder where the XWeb directory is stored to another location, and the XWeb directory will still work as is. You can specify the new XWeb directory location in the Tools/Options menu.

Steps to Generating XWeb Directory The following steps describe what is required to generate an XWeb directory.

1. First, design your style template, or use one provided by the installation. 2. Configure the settings that determine the content of the XWeb directory in the XWeb Director Designer. You save the settings in an XWD file. 3. Execute the XWebDirector.exe program to generate an up-to-date XWeb directory. The XWD configuration file is specified as argument to control the generation of the XWeb directory.

Viewing XWeb Directory XWeb directories are viewed through a web browser or web control (ActiveX control). Most likely, a browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator will be used. The home page of the XWeb directory can be conveniently placed in the tool bars of a browser for easy access. If you are using Internet Explorer you can also add a button to the Link toolbar, by first selecting the home page and then dragging the icon displayed in the URL address field onto the Link toolbar. Alternatively, you can add the home page to your Favorites list. Similarly, in Netscape Navigator you use the Bookmark feature to add the home page to the list of bookmarks. The bookmark can then be filed to the Personal Toolbar Folder, resulting in the addition of a button on the Personal Toolbar. It is always possible to create a shortcut to the home page on the desktop, or in a folder. By clicking the short cut, the default browser on the system will display the XWeb directory.

One or more Browser Windows Using the non-framed appearance, XWeb Director allows you to select how the “target” web pages are displayed in the browser. You can elect to show all web pages in the same browser instance, where each new page replaces the old page. You can navigate with the Back and Forward buttons of the browser. The other option is to open a new browser instance for each “target” web page. For instance if you want to compare 3 production pages, you could have 3 browser windows open for quick comparison. This selection is made through a setting in the Tools/Options menu of the Designer.

XWeb Directory on Intranet Server The XWeb directory is designed to reside on the Server node. The Server needs access to the web pages that make up the XWeb directory and the original web pages that the XWeb directory intends to display. If the Server node and the node where the original web pages exist are the same, you simply run the XWebDirector.exe program on this node, and the

Page 14: WizReport XLsupport.wizcon.com/Data/Wizcon Supervisor/WizReport XL... · 2020. 7. 27. · • A script in an HMI system • The Command Line (Start/Run or Command prompt) • Any

home page of the XWeb directory will be made available on the Intranet for viewing. If the Server node is different from the local node where the original web pages reside you have the following options:

• Generate the XWeb directory on the local node first. Place the home page and its associated files in the start folder, or in a higher-level folder, above the start folder. Copy the whole folder branch, including the XWeb directory and all sub folders containing the original web pages to the Server. Make the home page of the XWeb directory available on the Intranet for viewing, by giving it public (shared) access. • Create the original web pages directly in folder(s) on the Server, across the network. From the local node, run XWebDirector.exe and specify the start folder on the Server, e.g., \\Server\c\ProductionPages. Make sure that the XWeb directory web pages are stored in the start folder, or a higher-level folder, on the Server. Make the home page of the XWeb directory available on the Intranet for viewing.

XWeb Directory on Internet Server The XWeb directory is designed to reside on the Internet Server node. The Server needs access to the web pages that make up the XWeb directory and the original web pages that the XWeb directory intends to displays. The following procedure is recommended to support the correct placement of all required web pages: Generate the XWeb directory on the local node first. Place the home page and its associated files in the start folder, or in a higher-level folder above, start folder. Copy the whole folder branch, starting at the folder where the home page is located, including all sub folders containing the original web pages, to the Internet Server. Provide a link in your web site to the home page of the XWeb directory to make it available for viewing.

XWeb Directory and IIS If you have a Windows 2000 or Windows XP system, you can use IIS (Internet Information Services) to make your XWeb Directory home page available on intranet or Internet. Without the need to build web pages, you can designate the XWeb Directory home page to be your Website home page in the Personal Web Manager program (under Administrative Tools in the Control Panel).

Primer on Web Pages

A Web Page A web page is an HTML file (or group of HTML files) displayed in a browser window. Multiple browser programs exist. The main two are the Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Netscape’s Navigator. Each browser program treats the HTML file a little different, but generally the differences will be slight to invisible.

Creating HTML files XWeb Director creates HTML files for you with a directory structure inside. There is no need for you to modify the file after it has been generated. However, since the HTML directory file’s appearance is based on a style template, you may want to modify the style template, which in turn is also an HTML file. You can create your own style template, or use one of the provided style sheets and modify it.

Editing a Style Template The premier tool for editing HTML files is Microsoft’s Frontpage. However, for most needs, you can also use Microsoft Word. MS Word allows you to open HTML files, create and save HTML files. If you use Word, make sure that you save the file in HTML format.

Pictures in a Style Template or Frame HTML files accommodate pictures of many file formats. Typically, GIF or BMP type files are used. XWeb Director provides a number of GIF files that are used in its style templates and default frames. You can use the provided GIF file names and substitute the content with your own picture, as long as your picture is sized identically (pixelwise) to the original. These files reside in the XWeb\Images directory. The most commonly used files are:

• Logo.gif The logo picture, used in the default style sheets. • Backdrop.gif The backdrop pattern used in Default2.htm • Banner.gif The banner used in the banner frame of the framed web pages. • Main.gif The picture used in the main frame of the framed web page.

Non Framed Web Page A non framed web page shows a single HTML file, which is displayed in the full browser window frame. The web page always fills the browser frame. This style is the easiest to handle by the variety of browser programs and causes the least “browser anomalies”. Selecting a link in a non framed web page causes a new web page to appear.

Framed Web Page In the framed appearance the XWeb Directory shows multiple sections (frames) within the same browser window. Each frame contains an HTML page. One frame contains the XWeb directory, while the main frame shows the content of a selected HTML file. The banner frame shows your banner, e.g., picture or text. A number of picture files are provided in the XWeb Input directory. You can use the pictures, or substitute the file content with your own picture file.

Framed Web Page

A number of configurations of these 3 frames are supported, which can be selected when you configure a framed XWeb directory. There is one HTML file that is responsible for setting up the 3 frames; its name is “frame_index#.htm”, and it resides in the XWeb\Input directory. This file controls the locations, sizes and presence of the frames. You can change this file if needed. In fact, you will find three of these files (# = 1-3), each providing different permutations of the frames. Refer to the following section on Frame Layout.

Content Frame The content frame shows the list of available HTML files and sub folders. In other words, your directory is displayed in this frame. When you select a subfolder in this directory, the directory at the selected sub folder level will be displayed in this frame. If you select an HTML file, its content will be shown in the main frame. The content frame is formatted using the settings of the configured Style template.

The content frame is based on the file “frame_content.htm”, which resides in the XWeb Input folder.

Main Frame The main frame contains the view of the HTML file, which was selected from the content frame. A new selection in the content frame will overwrite the previous content of the main frame. When no HTML file is yet selected, the content of picture “main.gif” is displayed. This file resides in the Images folder under the XWeb Input file folder. You can substitute the default “main.gif” with your own picture file. The main frame background is based on file “frame_main.htm” in the XWeb Input folder.

Banner Frame The optional banner frame is located at the top of the window and contains a picture: “banner.gif”, residing in the Images folder under the XWeb Input file folder. You can substitute this with your own gif file. The banner frame is based on file “frame_banner.htm” in the XWeb Input folder.

Frame Layout You can select from three different layouts:

• Banner and Contents, specifies a picture banner frame across the full top of the browser page, the content frame under the banner on the left, showing the directory information, and the main frame on the right, showing the selected web page. This layout is defined in file “frame_index1.htm” in the XWeb Input folder.

• Contents, has no banner frame, but a contents frame on the left and main frame on the right. This layout is defined in file “frame_index2.htm” in the XWeb Input folder.

• Nested Hierarchy, specifies the contents section on the left (up to the top), the banner frame on the top, but to the right, while the main frame is under the banner, to the right of the content frame. This layout is defined in file “frame_index3.htm” in the XWeb Input folder.

Frame Sizing You can change the relative frame sizes, e.g., make the content frame wider. With MS Notepad, open the file “frame_index#.htm” (where # is 1-3, based on the selected layout, see section above) in your configuration file folder.

• Change the width of the content frame. Edit the section with: frameset cols="162,*". This is the frame width in pixels. Change the value from “162” to your preference.

• Change the height of the banner frame. Edit the section with: frameset rows="60,*". This is the frame height in pixels. Change the value from “60” to your preference.

Frame Background Colors You can change the background color of the banner and main frame by editing the associated frame‘s HTML file. In folder XWeb\Input, open the file (“frame_banner.htm” or “frame_main.htm”) in MS Word or Frontpage. Change the color and save the file (as HTML). Note that the content frame’s appearance is dictated by the Style template. To change its background, modify the background of the configured style template.

XWeb Director Designer

Overview The XWeb directory configuration is performed in the XWeb Director Designer. The results are stored in a configuration file (XWD file). The configuration file contains information about:

• The location of the target web pages. • The Style template used to define the XWeb directory pages. • The lay out and ordering of the directory web pages. • Web browser mode.

An XWeb directory is fully defined by its XWD configuration file.

Select Appearance When the XWeb Director Designer is first opened, or, when the New option is selected from the file menu, you can select one of four appearance options.

1. Non framed

All web pages in the XWeb directory have a uniform look, based on one selected Style template. This look requires the minimum amount of configuration.

2. Framed Each web page consist of more than 1 frame, allowing the directory section to reside in one frame and the web page to be viewed in

Page 22: WizReport XLsupport.wizcon.com/Data/Wizcon Supervisor/WizReport XL... · 2020. 7. 27. · • A script in an HMI system • The Command Line (Start/Run or Command prompt) • Any

another, allowing both to share the same browser window. An optional third frame may show pictures at the top.

3. Levels (advanced) The web pages representing a specific sub folder level in the XWeb directory have a uniform look, based on the selected Style template. Each level can have its own look, since the style parameters are configurable per level. For instance, if you store web pages in a folder for each year, which contains folders for each month, you can assign a different style for the monthly pages as compared to the yearly pages.

4. Custom (advanced) Multiple XWeb directories can be created at the same time, each with an individualized look, based on the selected Style template. The custom selection allows an overview XWeb directory to combine the home pages of any lower level XWeb directories.

Non Framed In the non framed appearance, all web pages will have the same look, based on the settings configured in the dialog.

The definition of a non framed XWeb directory requires the following settings:

• Start folder, specifies the location of the folder where the HTML files and sub folders reside in the file system. The home page of the XWeb directory will reflect this folder. • Include sub folders, determines whether any sub folders, which contain HTML files will be added to the XWeb directory. If this option is not checked, the XWeb directory will be a single web page, just reflecting the HTML files in the start folder. • Style template, specifies the name of the HTML based style template. The template defines the lay out and looks of the XWeb

directory pages. The style templates reside in the folder defined in the Tools menu. • Order the content by, specifies whether the files and folder displayed on the page will be ordered alphabetically by name, or by date. Sorting can be ascending or descending.

When all settings have been specified, they will be saved to an XWD file by selecting Save from the menu.

Framed In the framed appearance, the XWeb directory will be shown in a single web page, based on the settings configured in the dialog.

The definition of a framed XWeb directory requires the following settings:

• Start folder, specifies the location of the folder where the HTML files and sub folders reside in the file system. • Include sub folders, determines whether any sub folders, which contain HTML files will be added to the XWeb directory. • Style template, specifies the name of the HTML based Style template. The default for the framed style is frame_default.htm. Note that the style template is used to format the content frame only. • Frame Layout, select one of the options: contents, banner and contents, or nested hierarchy. Refer to the previous chapter for examples of these styles. • Order the content by, specifies whether the files and folder displayed on the page will be ordered alphabetically by name, or by date.

Levels (advanced) In this configuration, you can assign a unique look to the web page(s) representing a specific sub folder level in the XWeb directory. Each level can have its own look, since the style parameters are configurable per level. The following example shows 3 folder levels, one for yearly, one for monthly and one for daily web pages. Each of the folder levels has a different style template attached. As a result, the yearly directory page will look different

from the monthly pages, which will look different from the daily pages. The highest folder level is the Start folder; up to 9 lower levels can be specified.

The definition of a Level XWeb directory requires the following settings:

• Start folder, specifies the location of the folder where the HTML files and sub folders reside in the file system. The home page of the XWeb directory will reflect this folder.

For each folder level in the file system under the start folder, you can specify the appearance in the directory. Note that you select a line for the folder level first and click on the Edit menu options to edit the content. The content of each line can be moved up or down in the list with the up/down arrows on the side. You can also right click on the line for a pop-up menu. The Modify dialog provides the following settings:

• Style template, specifies the name of the HTML based style template. The template defines the lay out and looks of the XWeb directory pages at this folder level. The style templates reside in a folder, which is defined in the Tools/Options menu. • Order the content by, specifies whether the files and folder displayed on the page will be ordered alphabetically by name, or by date. Sorting can be ascending or descending.

When all settings have been specified, they will be saved to an XWD file by selecting Save from the menu.

Custom (advanced) The custom configuration provides for multiple XWeb directories to be created in one execution of the XWebDirector.exe. Up to 10 directories can be created, each with an individual uniform appearance. The XWeb directories are generated in top down order. This allows you to build the last web directory from the home pages of the other directories, thus creating an overview home page, with access to the others.

For each XWeb directory, you can specify the appearance. Note that you select a line first and click on the Edit menu options to edit the content. The content of each line can be moved up or down in the list with the up/down arrows on the side. You can also right click on the line for a pop-up menu. The Modify dialog provides the following settings:

• Start folder, specifies the location of the folder where the HTML files and sub folders reside in the file system. The home page of the XWeb directory will reflect this folder. • Style template, specifies the name of the HTML based style template. The template defines the lay out and looks of the XWeb directory pages at this folder level. • Order the content by, specifies whether the files and folder displayed on the page will be ordered alphabetically by name, or by date. Sorting can be ascending or descending.

When all settings have been specified, they can be saved to an XWD file by selecting Save from the menu.

Apply a Style Template The Style template provides the lay out for the XWeb directory pages. The Style sheet is applied to the “whole” non framed web page, or just to the content frame of the framed web page. On framed web pages you may want to keep the style simple, as the frame is narrow. The directory web page can be viewed as having 2 sections:

1. A flexible section, which grows with the number of displayed files and folders. 2. A fixed section, which provides room for pictures and static folder or drive information. The fixed section can be above or below the flexible section, or can be around (above and below) the flexible section.

An example of an XWeb directory page shows a small fixed section at the top, displaying a picture plus the name of the folder reflected in the web page, while the flexible section contains the files and folders at the bottom.

The Style template that is used to create the above example XWeb directory is shown below. The Style template contains a fixed section at the top, with picture and header information, followed by the flexible section containing the file and folder information. All the color and font settings applied to the Style template are passed to the XWeb directory page. Note that the Style template contains a number of keywords. In the XWeb directory page, these keywords will be replaced by the current values at the time of the generation.

Keywords Keywords provide special information to the directory page. Their values will be resolved and substituted at the time of XWeb directory generation. Keywords have a special syntax; they are surround by curly braces: “{“ and “}”. XWeb Director supports the following file specific keywords in the flexible section:

• FI – the file or folder icon • NAME – the file or folder name • SIZE – the file size • CREATE – the file creation date stamp • WRITE – the file write date stamp

The flexible section keywords all have to be on the same line, in a table. This line will be resolved and replicated for each file or folder added to the XWeb directory page. The above keywords cannot be used in the fixed section, as they are meaningless standalone.. In the fixed section, the following keywords are supported. Note that all keywords will be resolved at the time of XWeb directory page generation.

• DATIM – the locale date and time • DATE – the locale date • TIME – the locale time • LDIR – the long directory name • SDIR – the short directory name • FILTER – the file filter used (*.htm) • NDIR – the number of folders in the directory • NFILE – the number of files in the directory • DSIZE – the disk size • DFREE – the disk free space • DIRCREATE – the directory creation time

Axeda WizReport™ XL 6.0 28/41

• DIRACCESS – the directory last access time • DIRWRITE – the directory last write time

The Flexible Section The flexible section, where the file and folder content will be displayed, consists of a table object. Note that this is the only table object that is allowed in the Style template, as it guides the XWebDirector.exe to expand the table with the file and folder names. It must have 2 rows, with the header descriptions in the top row, and the keywords in the bottom row. The “NAME” keyword must be used in the bottom row. Provide as many columns as you need to describe the directory. Note that only the top 5 keywords should be used on the bottom row in the table. Heading Heading2 Heading3 Heading4 Keyword1 Keyword2 Keyword3 Keyword4 To apply background color to a cell in the table in MS Word, first select the cell, right click and select “Borders and Shading…” from the pop up menu. Now select the “Shading” tab. Pick your color and make sure that “Apply to:” is set to “Cell”. Press OK. The following table properties will produce a nice looking table: Default Cell Spacing = 0.05” Borders = None Shading Fill = Custom tone of yellow Font = 12 pt Columns Headings = Underline

The Fixed Section The fixed section contains static information about the XWeb directory. A number of keywords are available to describe the drive status, folder location and the date and time the XWeb directory was created. Pictures and images can be added only to the fixed section of the Style template.

Pictures and Images in the Style Template Pictures and images enhance the appearance of the directory pages. The down side of embedding pictures is the increase in the size of the directory page. If you plan on showing the directory on the Internet, you should take this in consideration, as it affects the load time of the page. Any picture or image can be inserted in a Style template. All picture files that are inserted in a Style template must reside in the folder named “Images”, which is a sub folder of the XWeb Input folder specified in the Tools/Options menu. Only pictures stored in this folder can be supported! Note that when you use MSWord to create the Style template, you link to the picture file, not just insert the picture in the document.

Each of the picture files provided by the installation has a fixed size (in pixels). If you plan to substitute these files with your own, make the size of the new files identical.

Style Templates Default1-3.htm (non framed) Three default non framed Style templates are provided with XWeb Director’s installation, default1-3.htm. They are located in the Templates folder. These example Style templates provide you with 3 different styles, from a simple Style template without pictures, to a Style template that contains multiple keywords and pictures.

Style Template Frame_default.htm (framed) This example Style template provides you with a simple Style template to create the directory in the (narrow) content frame.

Editing a Style Template We recommend that you first create a copy of the default Style template and rename it for personalization. You can use Microsoft Word or FrontPage to modify the Style template. To change the background color of the whole Style template in MS Word, select Format/Background from the menu and apply the desired color. Make sure that the file is saved in HTML format.

XWeb Director Settings, Paths and other Options The menu bar in the XWeb Director Designer provides a Tools/Options selection. The settings in this menu determine how XWeb Director generates the directories and where its files are located. Note that the settings apply to all XWeb directories.

File Locations Tab

• Location of XWD and Style template files, specifies the file path where the configuration files that are required to generate the XWeb directories are stored. Note that the XWeb Director Designer will save the XWD file in this location, and the XWebDirector.exe will retrieve the files from here. All Style templates must also be stored in this file path. The default location is folder “Xweb\Input” under the installation folder.

Any images that are contained in the Style templates, including the frame pictures, should reside in sub folder “Images” under this file path. • XWeb output directory Location, is an alternative path to store the home page and XWeb Directory in. By default, the Start Folder is the place where the XWeb directory home page and sub folder are stored. However, by unchecking the “Locate in Start folder” box you may select a different path where all XWeb directories will be stored. If you have more than one XWeb directory, make sure that you do check the “Use Start Folder name” to guarantee that each XWeb directory has a unique home page name. • Use Start Folder, if checked, locates the XWeb directory home page and associated file folder in the same location as the Start Folder for the ”target” web pages. If unchecked, a different path can be specified, but note that all XWeb directories will use that path!

Home Page Tab

• Home Page Name, specifies the name of the home page, by default “index.htm”. Enter any name. • Use Start Folder name, if checked, the home page will be named after the Start Folder the XWeb directory points to. Select this if you have multiple XWeb directories located in the same path.

Viewing Options Tab

• View reports in the active browser window, specifies that only one instance of the browser will be used when browsing web pages through the XWeb directory. Each new page will replace the previous page in the browser. To navigate back to previous pages, use the Back button on the browser.

• View reports a new browser window, specifies that each “target” web page selected from XWeb directory will be shown in its own browser, allowing multiple views open at any time. The directory web pages will stay in a single browser instance. Note that this option does not apply to the framed style of XWeb Director, as both the directory and the web page are shown in the same browser display.

Testing the Configuration After an XWeb Directory has been configured and saved, you can test the generation by selecting File/Save and Execute. As a result, the XWebDirector.exe program will be executed with the current XWD file. The home page will be created at the configured location and automatically shown in your default browser.

Installed Support Files XWeb Director adds the following files to the templates/XWeb Input folder:

• Default1.htm, the simplest of the Style templates. • Default2.htm, a more advanced Style template. • Default3.htm, the most sophisticated Style template. • Frame_banner.htm, the constructor for the banner frame. • Frame_contents.htm, the constructor for the contents frame. • Frame_main.htm, the constructor for the main frame. • Frame_default.htm, the Style template for the content frame. • Frame_index1.htm, the layout for the “Banner and contents” style. • Frame_index2.htm, the layout for the “Contents” style. • Frame_index3.htm, the layout for the “Nested hierarchy” style. • FramedSample.xwd, a sample XWD file for a framed directory. • NonFramedSample.xwd, an XWD file for a non framed directory.

In the Images folder, under the XWeb Input folder you find:

• Banner.gif, the picture for the banner frame. • Main.gif, the picture for the main frame. • Logo.gif, the picture for the logo in the Defaultx.htm files. • Backdrop.gif, the backdrop for the default2.htm file.

In the installation directory, you find:

• XWDdesigner.exe, the design program. • XWebDirector.exe, the program generating the XWeb directory.

XWeb Directory Generation

Overview When the XWeb directory is configured in the Designer, an XWD file is created that describes the location of the web pages and the style in which they will be presented in the directory. However, the XWeb Directory is not yet generated. Program XWebDirector.exe produces the directory. Normally it is called after new web pages have been added, or old ones have been removed. The name of the XWD file is passed as parameter to the program to control the generation of the XWeb directory.

Command Line You can run the generation from the Command line, e.g., “XWebDirector ProductionPages.XWD” Note that no file path needs to be specified in front of the configuration file; the file is expected to be in the path specified in the Tools/Options menu of the Designer. Typically, the XWebDirector program is called from a scheduler program.

Scheduler If you want to execute the generation of a new XWeb directory on a periodic basis (daily, weekly, monthly), you can schedule it in the standard Scheduler. You can create a new XWeb directory immediately after the web pages are produced. Scheduling can be time based, or event based.

HMI Script A new XWeb Directory can be generated from an HMI script, or push button script. Inside the script you use the command that can execute a third party application. You pass it the name of the XWebDirector.exe and as parameter, you pass the XWD file name.

XWeb Director Examples

Introduction In this chapter the most commonly used XWeb directory styles are illustrated. A framed and a non framed example are provided. You can view the finished XWeb directory examples directly from the XWeb Director’s program group.

A Non Framed XWeb Directory

Overview of Finished XWeb Directory Sample This example features both monthly and yearly web pages. All example files are stored under folder Samples, which is in the Installation Folder of XWeb Director. Select file “index.htm” in the Samples folder to see the example.

The monthly web pages are stored in sub folders 2000, 2001 and 2002, under the Samples folder. In addition, three yearly summary web pages are also stored in the Samples folder. In the non framed style, XWeb Director creates directory pages, which show all web pages of interest. The following configuration produces the example:

Page 36: WizReport XLsupport.wizcon.com/Data/Wizcon Supervisor/WizReport XL... · 2020. 7. 27. · • A script in an HMI system • The Command Line (Start/Run or Command prompt) • Any

The Start folder is Samples, and sub folders are included. The Style template is Default2.htm, and the directory is ordered by date. The options are configured as follows:

All templates and the XWD files are stored in Folder Templates, while the home page of the XWeb Directory will be placed in the Start folder.

The name of the Home page is “index.htm”.

The target web pages will be shown in a new browser window.

XWD File for Non Framed XWeb Directory In addition to the finished sample directory, you are also provided with a sample XWD file. In the Designer program, select File/Open and select the file “NonFramedSample.xwd”. Review its settings and perform a “File/Save and Execute” command. This sample will produce a homepage named “index.htm” in the XWeb\Samples\2002 folder.

A Framed XWeb Directory

Overview The framed example features both monthly and yearly web pages, which are shared with the previous example. All example files are stored under folder Samples, which is in the Installation Folder of XWeb Director. Select file “frame_index.htm” in the Samples folder to see the example.

The monthly web pages are stored in sub folders 2000, 2001 and 2002, under the Samples folder. In addition, three yearly summary web pages are also stored in the Samples folder. In the framed style, XWeb Director creates the directory on the left, and main frame to view the selected web page on the right. The following configuration produces the example:

Page 38: WizReport XLsupport.wizcon.com/Data/Wizcon Supervisor/WizReport XL... · 2020. 7. 27. · • A script in an HMI system • The Command Line (Start/Run or Command prompt) • Any

The Start folder is Samples, and sub folders are included. The Style template is frame_default.htm, the lay out is “Banner and Contents”, and the directory is ordered by date. All other configuration is identical to the previous example, with the exception of the Home page name:

The name of the Home page is “frame_index.htm”.

XWD File for a Framed XWeb Directory In addition to the sample of the finished directory, you are also provided with a sample XWD file to generate a framed XWeb directory. In the Designer program, select File/Open and select the file “FramedSample.xwd”. Review its settings and perform a “File/Save and Execute” command. This sample will produce a homepage named “index.htm” in the XWeb\Samples\2002 folder.
