Crisis Hotline Monitor (March 2006-December 2006), Tallahassee, Florida (project based out of Rutgers, University in Piscataway, New Jersey). Agency Type: University-based research project. Research assistant for national crisis hotline monitoring project. Populations served: Callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Job Description: Remotely monitored calls to 18 consenting crisis centers that are part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Instructed to contact hotline supervisor in the case of a clear and imminent threat of harm to the caller (or someone with whom the caller has contact) that does not appear to have been responded to by the crisis worker. 3 hours per week. Supervisor: John Kalafat, Ph.D.

Psychological Trainee (August 2005-May 2007), Florida State University Psychology Clinic, Tallahassee, Florida. Agency Type: University-based, outpatient community mental health clinic. Populations served: Adults from the Tallahassee community. Due to an inexpensive sliding scale, the Clinic serves a relatively low SES population. Students comprise less than half of the patient population. Job Description: Provided outpatient psychotherapy using empirically supported treatments; conducted screening interviews to determine type of services needed; handled phone and walk-in emergencies; conducted ADHD, diagnostic, and psycho-educational assessments; attended weekly didactic seminar. 20 hours per week.

Individual Therapy: Maintained a caseload of 5 individual therapy clients with a wide range of psychopathology, including serious and persistent mental illness. Assessments: Conducted comprehensive assessments to test for learning difficulties and ADHD in adults.

Staff Psychotherapist (August 2005-August 2006), Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys, Marianna, Florida. Agency Type: High-risk residential commitment facility. Population Served: Males age 12-20 who were committed by the court. The population consists of Florida’s most serious, chronic male, juvenile offenders. Job Description: Provide individual psychotherapy and conduct diagnostic and psychoeducational assessments. 10 hours per week. Individual Therapy: Maintained a caseload of 4 individual therapy clients. Used cognitive and behavioral strategies to address a variety of behavioral problems and psychological disorders. Also used general problem-solving techniques as well as motivational interviewing. Assessment: Conducted 1 assessment per week to assess for intellectual functioning, Axis I psychopathology, and personality tendencies. Supervisor: Monica Watkins-Clay, Ph.D.

Agency Type: Independent Medicaid-funded provider of Applied Behavioral Analysis Population served: Seven-year-old boy diagnosed with Asperger’s disorder Job Description: Used Applied Behavior Analysis in the treatment of a seven-year-old with Asperger’s disorder. Received training and participated in monthly case meetings related to the development of behavioral interventions. Implemented behavior programs targeting enuresis and encopresis as well as other disruptive and externalizing behaviors. 9 hours per week. Supervisor: Michael Wolf, M.A.

Telephone Counselor (September 2001-June 2004) Suicide Prevention Services, Columbus, Ohio. Agency Type: 24-hour crisis hotline located in a community mental health center. Populations served: Teens, adults, and older adults currently in crisis. This center was linked with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Job Description: Used a crisis intervention model to counsel a wide range of callers, including mentally ill clients, rape victims, and domestic violence victims. Member of Leadership Council and speaker’s bureau. Trained new volunteers, which included leading a small group, role-playing, and making a presentation about crisis intervention to the large group. Over 600 hours of service. Supervisor: Mary Brennan-Hofmann, M.A.
