Employees have a real passion for the products they make and genuinely care about creating driving experiences that customers will love for a lifetime. This culture has helped earn Jaguar Land Rover its title as one of best employers in the United Kingdom.
JLR’s organizational structures had not changed in many years. But change was exactly what JLR needed if it wanted to realize the full potential of its brands and return to profitability. Specifically, it would have to transform its people operations and processes first, with a new HR operating model and standardized HR processes. Leaner, standardized HR processes
would support JLR in becoming more agile and bringing new products to the market faster.
“We wanted not only to provide the business with a scalable HR operation that anticipates future growth, but also to provide easy access to intelligent information that can aid business planning and strategic decision making,” says Naomi Anaam Heer, head of people strategy and HR evolution at JLR.
JLR was also looking for HR technology with strong data-analysis capabilities so it could get better insight into the kind of skills it needed to source from the market and develop internally. And because JLR views diversity as essential to its creativity and competitiveness, it sought HR software that could reduce bias in all recruiting and talent management decisions.

Jaguar Land Rover selected the entire suite of SAP® SuccessFactors® Talent solutions, which provided an integrated HR technology platform for 16,000 employees in 24 countries. All HR processes are now managed from one platform.
IBM Global Business Services helped JLR define the new standardized processes and new roles in the HR organization. IBM designed, configured, tested, and rolled out SAP SuccessFactors solutions for recruiting and onboarding; performance and goals; succession and development; learning; compensation; and workforce analytics. It also established a new HR shared services center. The SAP SuccessFactors solutions were deployed with SAP HANA® Cloud Portal for employee self-service and SAP Hybris® Cloud for Service to support service center operations.
Very little was customized – one of the driving principles of this HR transformation project. By adhering to this principle, JLR built a more sustainable and flexible model.
Data now flows between the different talent solutions. And with the SAP SuccessFactors Workforce Analytics solution, JLR will look to get insight into core HR metrics. It aims to use this analysis to support employees in their development. The SAP SuccessFactors solutions have helped to free HR from standardized administrative processes and transform it into a deeper strategic partner to the business.
Employees also now have a consumer-standard technology experience. “It’s really important that employees have access to technology that is intuitive to use with minimal input effort. That’s how you make employees more efficient,” says Farida Lockhat, IT program manager at JLR. “Having a consumer standard was a big factor in our selecting SAP SuccessFactors solutions.”

By having one place for all talent management data, JLR can manage the entire employee lifecycle more efficiently, from recruiting to development. Whereas in the past the company had limited access to information on candidates prior to their joining the company, leading to a clunky onboarding experience, today new hires are productive from day one. And JLR is putting the right people in the right roles faster: the time to hire has fallen from 80 to 50 business days, a 46% acceleration.
HR has become fitter and leaner while improving the quality of HR services at the same time. Employees can switch easily between the different HR applica-tions, all within one branded HR perspective. This seamless experience is what employees are used to in their personal lives. And it is exactly the kind of environment that makes people give their best at work each day and deliver quality.
For its successful HR transformation and the fact that all expected business benefits were achieved, JLR received the SAP SuccessFactors HR Excellence President’s Award in 2016.

Centralizing all HR services on one cloud platform has already transformed Jaguar Land Rover’s business. In the future, the company plans to expand access to more self-service HR processes. With more people using the system, JLR will achieve greater efficiencies and be able to offer personalized talent solutions.
As its talent management database grows, HR will be able to generate more sophisticated HR analytics and develop HR services driven by key performance indicators (KPIs). For example, there will be KPIs on such things as productivity, engagement, talent attraction, and workforce skills. This will help JLR source niche or hard-to-find skills in the market – particularly important for a company that is on the cutting edge of innovations. JLR understands that data is power, and that sophisticated HR data will keep its brand the dream of every consumer.
