York Minster Fund PatronsWith grateful thanks to all supporters
What an exciting time we have had in the Fund over the last few months.
In May, we marked the culmination of the Great East Window project and enjoyed a wonderful week of events. Firstly there was a pilgrimage from across the Diocese, with walkers coming from as far afield as Whitby and Filey, Hull and Howden to see the completed window. Then there was the launch of Sarah Brown’s definitive book on the window and, finally, a fantastic celebratory Evensong which saw the return
of former Dean Rev’d Keith Jones as preacher, as well as many of those who have worked on the project over the last 12 years.
Then June saw the Northern Lights weekend, beginning with 700 people at our gala dinner in the nave on the Friday night, and continuing with the showing of the Northern Lights sound and video projection artwork to over 3,000 people across the Saturday and Sunday evenings. With the match-funding from the Heritage Lottery, the weekend raised nearly £1.4m for the Glass Endowment Fund, a special fund set up to pay for the 20 year Glass protection programme.
At the end of June, we welcomed York Minster Patrons to a special Minster by Evening event to thank them for their much-valued support. Sarah Brown gave a fascinating talk on the Great East Window, while Uschi Roberts, one of our Minster volunteers, baked a wonderful celebratory cake. We very much enjoyed meeting and thanking ours supporters.

We have also been delighted to welcome Laura Cotter to our team to support our research and development programme. Work has already begun to identify new processes and technology which support the expertise of the Glaziers and Stoneyard as they restore this magnificent building.

Retiring Trusteesafter several years of service with the Fund, we say goodbye to a number of trustees this summer:
Julie De Nunzio, who led the Events Committee in organising the Northern Lights dinner, along with many other events during her tenure and Steve Galloway, who, as ex-leader of York City Council represented the Fund to the city and the city in the Fund. They are, of course, joined in moving on to pastures new by the Dean, The Right Rev Vivienne Faull, who, after 7 years, has now become the Bishop of Bristol. We would like to thank her and all our retiring Trustees for the support they have given the Fund and wish them well in the future.
In the next edition we will say hello to our new Trustees.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of laura Cotter to the YmF team as research and development Project manager.
After gaining a first class degree in manufacturing engineering and management from Loughborough University, Laura developed her engineering and process skills in a variety of roles with JCB, one of the world’s leading engineering companies. She then worked for the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education before becoming a consultant, particularly in identifying and implementing new processes and technology in industrial settings. She is also a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Laura will be based in the Stoneyard office and will initially immerse herself in the work and processes of both the Stoneyard and the Glaziers. She will then carry out a benchmarking exercise of restoration practices in different historic settings as well as looking at new and developing technologies which may be appropriate to the Minster.
This project is another example of York Minster Fund, York Glaziers Trust and The Chapter of York working together on the long term restoration and protection of the Minster. We are particularly grateful to Sarah Brown and Alex McCallion for their help in initiating this project and recruiting Laura.
The work of both York Glaziers Trust and the Stoneyard is renowned across the world, and we proudly guard our reputation for nurturing historic skills and techniques. With the help of this project we will also keep at the forefront of modern developments, so ensuring that York Minster remains, as it always has been, a world leader in conservation and restoration.
