Dear church family and friends,

We are often surprised when big changes happen

around us. Even that thought surprises us. The

unspoken, sometimes unconscious expectation, is that

some things should never change. As we think about

this idea, it does not make sense.

Logically, we know that change happens every day. Every day there

are changes in: the weather, traffic patterns, price of gas, groceries,

etc. Every change, even good changes require us to adjust. The

bigger the change, the bigger the adjustment needed .

Many of these changes are beyond our control. Each change

reminds us of this very fact. We do not like it when we are not in

control. We feel vulnerable, unsafe and powerless. When we feel

the most powerless, we may feel the angriest. That anger is an

attempt to gain power back or feel powerful. Much of this, I believe,

is unconscious, but still motivates our behavior.

The answer is not for me to be more powerful so that I can protect

me and mine. That is an impossible goal. That is a misplaced hope.

Instead, we need to be careful about the object of our hope.

We read the words of the prophet, Isaiah, in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore,

the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child

and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” The

promised Messiah is the answer!

During Advent, consider where your hope is. Consider putting it in

our Savior. He will supply your need and empower you to do all

that is required.

You are invited to worship with us this Advent season. See the

calendar of events. Invite a friend. Better still, bring a friend.

Love, Pastor Mike

One of my responsibilities each Sunday is to promote the

opportunities available for the upcoming week and

beyond. I write in my bulletin all of the things that need to

be mentioned during the “notices” time at the end of

worship. Yesterday, I had so many notes scribbled in my

bulletin for this week, and sticky notes too, that it took

me several minutes to make all of the announcements—

I’m certain that I left some things out.

There are some who are probably “just ready to go”. But,

I count it more than a blessing to be a part of a church

that is so involved and active. Listen, it is not just about

being “busy”, either. I’m talking about our church being

involved in serving and loving (meal for the Rose family,

parents’ day out, etc.); spiritual growth (Bible study, youth

ministry, etc.); and personal growth (music ministry,

fellowship, etc.).

We are blessed to be a part of a “Community of

Believers”. WBC is more than church; it is a community,

a family. I am amazed at the lingering that takes place at

the end of worship, rehearsals, meetings, any kind of

gathering. People linger because they enjoy being

together; they share a common purpose. We linger

because we love one another.

Believe me, there are many churches who would love to

have what we have: purpose, clarity, love, charity,

willingness, able-bodies, warmth, talent, faithfulness,

resources, and leadership. I pray that we continue to be

grateful and rejoice in our many opportunities! I also pray

that each of you will find places to plug in and contribute!

The music ministry will be active this weekend! The

Jubilation Ringers will perform at The Inn on Friday at

7:00 pm. Come out and enjoy some wonderful music and

fellowship. And, then, of course, Sunday evening is the

Cantata which involves many people in our church and

draws in a lot of people from the community. I hope that

you will join us! The Singing Sunbeams will present their

program on Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 pm.

I would like to especially thank Russell Cyphers, Marty

Adkins, Jim Sturgill and Bruce Cahoon for their music in

worship yesterday. And also to Susan Smith for

accompanying the choir and for her beautiful offertory.

We are so blessed!

I am praying for you this week; pray for each other, too.

Blessings, Leigh

Save the Date: Sunday,

December 11! We are

working on a special

FLOCK Christmas dinner/party. More information

will be available soon.

We will have youth on Wednesday this week. But,

we will not have youth on Sunday, December 4

because of the Cantata. FLOCK members are

singing in the choir and some are also participating

in the performance of the LIGHT.

December 7 John & Karen Ponish

Handmade Christmas Ornaments

See Sherlene Hall to purchase

India. All proceeds will be used for local

20th Christmas

Cantata!

You will not want to miss our 20th annual WBC Christmas Cantata on Sunday, December 4! The Sanctuary choir

and Orchestra will present “Let There Be Christmas” at

7:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Our Deacons will be available to provide transportation

for those unable to drive at night.

Your help with the reception is always appreciated! A food list is available and help with set up/clean up would be

awesome! Please contact Teresa Adkins.
